It was painfuly obvious - Specialized said that will leave Astana, while Sagan was linked with Bora and Specialized as their new supplier. So this was no brainer

The one good thing about the Bahrain-team is that its basically an Italian team and now that Lampre is leaving, its pleasent to at least still have one 'Italian' team out there on the WT. |

Alright, that's a reasonable decision.. I would hate a peloton without their buttugly, wonderful jerseys.

It actually does not matter is that Spezialised, Trek, Argon, Merida, Giant etc.
They generally make frames..years ago most of frames came even from same factory.
Only difference there can be is TT frames. Like some time ago Bianchi TT frames did just suck and we did see that at team Blanco / Belkin perfomance.
But at 90% chances does not matter what brand is printed for your bike when sprint or climb. |

Lampre has been down in the pecking order and no wonder why their relationship with Merida ended abruptly. There hasn't been an strong Italian team in the past few years. Afrter Cannondale killed off Liquigas and now Lampre gone from the WT scene, this marks dark times for the Italian cycling.
Moreover Lampre may not be even invited to some RCS competitions, including Giro d'Italia. There are far too many Italian 2nd division teams - Nippo, Southeast, Androni, Bardiani and now Lampre is the 5th team in the second level. Coppa Italia is guaranteeing wildcard, but that is reserved for Willier-Southeast. Missing on an Giro will be a devastating for an Italian team - Androni is set to fold after Gazprom was invited at their expense. For these teams the Giro is their way to get sponsorship and more TV time.
However inviting teams on national grounds has been dumb idea - what about other teams that want to be part of?

RCS always invite one foreign team to the Giro (Gazprom, CCC, Colombia, NetApp). This why Androni didn't get an invite this year and other Italian teams missed out in previous years.
But next year there'll be one less WT team so that means an extra invite.

Really does signify the regression of Italian cycling imo. First Liquigas, now Lampre (somewhat) and just over 10 years ago Italy had 5 teams in the top division, which was tied for the most at the time.

Unless Bernaudeau tries to bring his team back to WT status. There will be 18 WorldTour teams and UCI will forego an selection process for the 18th spot
It has been touted that ONE Pro Cycling will go to WT by 2017, but the sudden jump to WT after only 2 years I can't see how will this happen.
Willier Triestina are investing more in the Southeast outfit and one can wonder if they will apply for WT to gain more exposure.
IMO ONE, Direct Energie and Willier Southeast are the candidates for the 18th WT slot should Lampre relinquish their WT rights

Oh wow no. Bernaudeau almost killed his team the last time he did that. Surely he wouldn't be crazy enough to try again.

Low period at italian cycling..let's hope it will be shorter then at germany. Where it took almost 10 years to get a pro team again.
Pro team is huge boost for any country cycling.
As much people don't like Riis. He has done more good then bad for danish cycling. |

Armistead missed three tests this year but got cleared due to administrative mistakes apparently.. Missing three tests is quite a rasmussen number we have there.

As always missed out-of-competition tests are a mess to understand. I do like that one of them came whilst Lizzie was racing a World Cup event in Sweden, where she was tested after the race. And the one in June, whilst not 100% confirmed, seemed to coincide with the Womens Tour, where again she was tested in-race.
Good job UKAD, your reputation continues to be questionable. Good job Lizzie, keeping up the questionable end of British cycling.

Apparently at one of the missed tests she was where she said she would be but the tester didn't bother to look for her so it was thrown out. |
