Great stuff again roturn!
Sutton 10th as expected, but more importantly Gilanipoor just managed to stay with the main bunch (or at least got the same time). Would have been a disaster to loose minutes on a flat stage. Congrats Vontobel!
Looking forward to the rest! |

Very disconcerting to see all your GC-guys crash on the first day of a ten stage race...
But Appollonio winning the opener makes more than up for this, especially since a lot more pressure applied on him to gain our share the starting days. The way he won makes us really optimistic, feels great as the last bunch sprint we won was two years ago.

Congrats to Vontobel, Appollonio far too good, even if the last 2km were heartbreaking fro me. Keough did an alright job managing 6th at least, and Brenes didn't lose time.
Thanks roturn.

Thanks for that report roturn, great as always.
It is good to see the wind having so much of an effect this year. Always makes it more interesting.

Heh Jim Bowen already with more points than last year?
Good leadouts paying off once again, this time Appo screwed by his abortive one (also never a good sign when they are frigging around on intermediate sprints).
One more ironing board

So I haven't had anyone finish in the top 20 of a stage, nobody's been in the break or collected bonus seconds, but I'm first in the u25 jersey and the team's classification? Seems legit!
Nice win for Bennett!

Nice wins for Appo and Bennet. Pretty interesting pair of sprints, and always interesting to see when a sprint train fails

Still no loss time, and a top 10 by Cardoso! |

As you can see we are not used to form sprint trains.
Even more our riders made some questional tactical decisions. Time to gather the troops and talk about strategy, again. Next one can easily be the last good opportunity for a stage result in Tachira.

I've forgotten how the C1 points scales work, but it wouldn't surprise me
Very happy with Petit once again there. The fact our leadout consists of a 70 SP and a 71 SP rider make it all the more impressive that we're competitive. I don't really want Petit in the lead going into Stage 4 for Pinot reasons, but I'd fancy him for a run at the points jersey with a good result on Stage 3. And with the form Gallopin is showing, he could be a real threat on Stages 5, 6 and 10... |

Another perfect stage for us, our top guy stays on par with the GC boys, but the rest of the team loses minutes, no reason they shouldn't be free to fly when the time for breakaways comes around.

Good win for Bennett. Was happy to see one of my guys on Appollonio's wheel, unfortunate however that his train kinda screwed themselves up.
Thanks roturn

3rd by Sutton is highly appreciated. Our first breakaway this season is also positive, but completely alone it's difficult to go all the way and win. Vuelta al Tachira has been good so far, but excited to see the first uphill battles.
Thank you Roturn and congrats to Bennett! |

Unfortunately Haidar Anuawar couldn't deliver another top 10. I hope he'll be better again in the 3rd stage. |

Cool to see Bennett repeating "history" here.

Cheers for the reports, excellent read
When you see Marquez settling in the top 30 in 2 sprint stages, you know he's 100% focused on that GC! Yes! |

Nice sprint by Bennett, I like how he has been planned as for what I've seen he'll mostly go to shit stage races sprinters wise to rack up a few points he'd never imagine to get with such a sprinters packed PCT. Appollonio looked out of shape there, but possibly also got blocked.

Nice win for Bennett!
Team GC has always been a bit messed up when everyone are in the same time still.
Really good sprint by Bennett but a little interesting to see how hard Vontobel failed to get Apollonio a proper leadout because of Perroro snatching final place in the train.

Vontobel catching some of the Hugo Boss' leadout syndrome here - know how it feels.
Some quite 'lucky' (semi) GC-contenders lost time already and that bodes well for them attacking and getting a stage win laiter on, if they are unharmed.

Wow Appollonio really wanted to show it was a one-off there, what a sprint he's had.
