Foliforov's climbing time is unreal. And Chaves was slightly faster than Kruijswijk on the actual climb.

then again, if he's so strong as the last 2 days. It doesn't even matter.
Jep, just ride people out of his wheel on Agnello and Bonette/Lombarde and call it GG |

Plus it was probably the toughest mountain stage of the entire year yesterday.
Yesterdays stage was Brutal! Have this MTT after a flat day and I doubt the Russian wins it

Well, a performance like this considering everything should ring every alarms for a person who have followed cycling for more than 5 years. Not that I care, I think most people are doping, but today was blatant.
Why that. He was very talented rider in U23. He showed v good climbing skills in Friuli. The team said both him and Firsanov took it easy yesterday cause they wanted to do real well on the MTT while the other favourites had a really hard day yesterday.

What I said one page ago + I never said that I think that it's ok for Kruiswijk |

Looks like Foliforov was Russian towards the finish.

This race is gonna be awesome in the third week. LottoNLs team for the mountains is really suspect.

Yeah, he might hold on easily aswell. Di luca has proven that in 2007 that you don't need any team when you're a notch above the rest. The same with Conta in 2011. But I fear that if he gets isolated early, even Kruijswijk will gets his hands full. But i will be rooting for him either way, few riders would deserve a giro win more than Steve

Why it should ring alarms? A young Russian from Rusvelo that 95% didn't really know beats the whole field not on a mountain stage, but a mountain ITT. Even after a day like yesterday, this is HIGHLY surprising and suspicious |

Someone of those 5% that do know him would be able to tell you that he was one of the strongest climbers in U23 races in 2013 and 2014. All the big mounain races Aosta, Isard, Avenir he was up there

Somebody must've Quick-Simmed these ITT results
Quite cool seeing Foliforov win rather than one of the top GC riders, Kruiswijk extending his lead, would be quite cool for him to win but still hoping Chaves can get that back on him - he seems to be climbing the strongest atm at least.
Really loving this Giro so far

Pretty much, I don't really have favourite riders so this Giro has been good as outside of Kittel for 2 days nobody else has dominated and the racing has been good.

Quite similar scenario to 2010 Giro MTT, if you were wondering about this being out of place performance. |

All building up to what should be a very exciting final week. Kruijswijk has a very weak team even if Roglic starts climbing like he time-trials, but Astana have the firepower of Kangert, Fuglsang and Scarponi to bring to bear to try and isolate him. Nibbles needs to go on a crazy descent at least once somewhere and Astana put the hammer down on the Bonette for example and try and isolate Kruijswijk.

Foliforov has great results in every MTT he's ever ridden:

His performance is still suspect but on the other hand he hasn't just come out of nowhere and there are excuses as to why the main GC guys might be a little flat
