Paris - Roubaix 2016 (114th edition)
Guido Mukk
Best classic is just best.
Sagan how the hell ride over Cancellara bike.
top form Sep who really deserves lot more...
legend Tommeke.. some how old war horse knows how to ride to be in the game. He did so much work today.
Stannard...repeating that line. He can do anything.
Hayman..another happy surprise winner. really crowned he's career with that.

What a race that was. Action from start to finish! How many attacks were there in the last 10 km?! Smile

And what a surprise winner, this victory really makes his career. Pfft

Am I the only one who haves problem reading page 33 here? It has been a problem since the race finished, and still is. The other pages reads just fine.

That was one of the greatest races in a long time, although I may be completely biased due to the amazing winner Grin

That page is broken, probably because of the high number of banana smileys.

If Vanmarcke cant get the win from a group like that with no Sagan, Cancellara, Van Avermaet or Stybar i doubt he will ever win Roubaix...

Disagree.
He put everything on attacking today, so no sprint left. Might not always be that way.
And I wouldn't rule out a solo. Not saying he will win it for sure, but Sep is definitely a man who can win Roubaix every time he races it. He just needs all the right cards to do it.

Sagan has only once finished top 10, Cancellara is retiring so he doesn't have to worry too greatly about those 2 in the future Smile Well Sagan could become better in Roubaix.

But still the guys like Boonen, EBH and Stannard have been nowhere near able to follow Sagan, Cancellara and even Kwiatkowski in E3...

I don't agree, Sep has had a great cobbled season and I think he has stepped up this year, he's only 27 so has time and really went for it today and was pretty close to making one of those attacks stick. Maybe a change of squad could be the way to go but even if he stays with Lotto I think he can bag Roubaix or De Ronde by the time his career is over

Yes but don't forget Roubaix is a whole other race. It's a special race and if there's one race Vanmarcke could definitely win, it's Roubaix. More so than Vlaanderen, E3 or Wevelgem.
Also look at Sagan in E3, GW and RvV, just impressive year after year. In Roubaix, once 6th, never again in top 10. That's 1 top 10 result, compared to eg Wevelgem where he has been 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st...
Other kind of race Smile

And? Even without the crash I don't think Cancellara or Sagan would of caught the guys up front today. Roubaix is a different beast to the other races and Vanmarcke was brilliant today

I have to admit I was rooting for Boonen in the finale there. He just got too boxed in and didn't have the acceleration to get around that fast. That being said, he went to the front a few too many times I think. Hayman was crazy good today but he also barely took a pull. And while I don't like wheelsucking, there were times when the pace could be slowed later in the race where nobody would catch them anyway, but Boonen was too willing to pull hard anyway.

Hayman pulled as much as EBH, Stanard and Vanmarke, only after that cobbled sector where Vanmarke attacked did he take a break, and that was fair enough given he got dropped due to Stannard almost riding into him.

Wanted either Boonen or Hayman to win, so nice to see Hayman, always kind of liked him since his Rabobank days, but also wanted Boonen to get 5 wins.

And you cant blame Hayman for that. Being 4 times winner and a favorite it was Bonnen's responsibility to chase down attacks. Not Hayman. Especially when there are guys like Stannard, Vanmarke involved. Also it was not Hayman's responsibility to pull and get gap to Sagan/Cancellara group either.
Hayman did what was right and got a deserving win for that.

Heartbroken about Tommeke but holy shit WHAT A RACE.

The race was so insane that even the PCM.daily's websites servers couldnt contain it.

Oh ok so the forum was broken by bananas not by the huge number of comments about how awesome this race was Pfft

Also, having had a bit of time to digest what happened and look through the results, a shout-out for Aleksejs Saramotins, finishing 8th ahead of The Great Imanol following a 13th place from the break last year where he was very aggressive. Been a solid rouleur dom for the past few years and nice to see him rewarded with a good placing. And of course for The Great Imanol himself, I'd always had him down as one of those experienced domestiques who knows their way round the pro peloton and has done a lot of work (eg I remember for Nairo in last year's Tour) but never actually achieved much to show their potential, maybe he can kick on from this extraordinary showing for some other good results in the next couple of years!

So after this... the Ardennes classics eh? After the cobbled classics season we've just witnessed, they're going to seem even more dull than they usually are.

This was honestly one of the best races I've ever seen, certainly so in the last time. Action right from the start and there were hardly any dull moments in the race. After Vanmarcke rode away in Carrefour de l'Arbre I thought he had it, but the others were cooperating well to bring him back and thus resulting in probably the most tense final kilometers I've ever watched.

Nobody had any legs anymore but somehow they just kept on riding, as no one was willing to give up. That the winner eventually was the 37 year old, absolute underdog made it even more beautiful for me and was a fitting end to an awesome and unpredictable coobled season. Wink

Unfortunately though I guess the Ardennes aren't gonna be nearly as good. Pfft
