Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Pro Cycling Team
Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Pro Cycling Team (LPU) is a Belgium based cycling team. The idea started in 2014, when football club K. Lierse S.K. noticed the low sale of tickets on the days cycling classics were hold. They realised there are two sports that matter in Belgium, Football and Cycling. Rather then competing, the board proposed and idea to unite the two. After a lot of thinking, the first steps were taken and preparations started. A new cycling team was born!
It was decided the main sponsor would be K. Lierse S.K., Lierse in short. Of course a second, more international sponsor would be needed. The ideal candidate was found only 2 months later. Pizza Ullo is a growing chain of traditional Italian restaurants. Opposing chains such a Pizza Hut and Domino's, they offer more healthy, more traditional Italian pizza.
Soon after, The first restaurant of Pizza Ullo in Belgium was opened, inside the stadium of Lierse. More restaurant opened over time, as the team got in the first wins in 2014, including 2 national championships. The biggest result came in 2015, when Stijn Joseph won Dwars Door Vlaanderen, a semi classic with live broadcasting on tv.
Towards the end of the 2015 season, the team decided a new approach, with even more focus on youth. At the same time, UCI regelations forced a team name change. In 2016, the team name will be Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Pro Cycling Team.
Our Sponsors:
K. Lierse S.K.
A football team from Belgium's Premier League.
Pizza Ullo
An expanding Italian restaurant chain.

Well, it seems like me, you, and Chiquita are the only new managers from 2014 that have yet to promote iirc.
Here's to doing it this year!

Unexpected last minute promotion
It has been a quiet offseason so far, but 2 days ago we had a major gamechanger. Both our sponsors had the idea to invest some more money into the team and suddenly we found ourselves close to a budget that allowed us to go professional!
What followed were 48 hours of hard negotiations with the sponsors and the UCI to get everything in order, but we did it. We can now proudly say Lierse - Pizza Ullo will ride in the Pro Continental Tour next season. The name will accordingly adjusted to Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Pro Cycling Team, and for official purposes Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam.
"But what with the entire development program?", we hear you ask. That will remain in place, even though it will be slightly harder to train young riders in such a tough field. On the other hand, we don't want to finish last either. We will hopefully get some extra riders with experience in the Pro Continental Tour that will guide our youngsters while also scoring the necessary points to stay professional. That being said, our only competitive goal this season is not to relegate.

Renewals
The following riders have been given a new contract for 2016:
Josef Cerny
Konrad Dabkowski
Daniele Dall'Oste
Stijn Joseph
Kevin Peeters
Matteo Pelucchi
Diego Rosa
Manuel Senni
Jasper Stuyven
Nikita Umerbekov
Maksym Vasilyev
Louis Verhelst
This dozen looks dirty enough for the Pro Continental Tour, but we need 2-3 team leaders. It will definitely be an interesting transfer period for us, with the need for young blood, as our average age went up to 26. Some outgoing transfers are also possible, for the right price of course!

First signing!
We have made our first signing as a Pro Continental team and the honour goes to Jakub Mareczko! For those who doubted we would continue our development project after we promoted, this 22 year old Italian is a real talent. Expect him to develop into a world class sprinter in a few years.

The puncheur and the champ
We are happy to announce 2 new signing this morning. THE CHAMP IS HERE! Wout Van Aert, cyclocross world champion, signed for our team. It's unsure what he'll do on the road, but at age 22 and full of potential, we can only dream how good this young Belgian will be in a few years.
Our second signing is Zico Waeytens, another Belgian. He's the team leader on the hills, the area that caused a lot of problem for us in the past. We were getting humiliated in the Continental Tour, but here with Waeytens and an improved Jasper Stuyven, we may have a shot at top 10 results.

The superstar
We had two names on top of our shortlist at the start of the transfer period. Sean De Bie went to the Pro Tour (which he deserves, as he's a great rider), but we managed to sign Kenneth Vanbilsen today!
Kenneth will be our franchise rider in the Pro Continental Tour. He combines great cobble skills with a good ability on the flat, a strong endurance and a decent sprint. He is pretty much our hope to avoid regelation this year.
Of course this means Stijn Joseph, our star of the last 2 years has to take a step back. Stijn is ok with it though, as he sees this as a way to attack from further our and repeat his Dwars Door Vlaanderen win.

Vanbilsen joins the PCT along 3 other capable cobblers today, so very interesting to see the battle between Summerhill, Baugnies, Cancellara, Teunissen and Vanbilsen
Good to see your team keeping your focus and surely Joseph still has some possibilities to make something happen
