I simply cannot bring myself to believe that a time trialist, who had never come close to attempting a GC in GT, not only survived every single mountain stage, sometimes better than pure climbers, but then somehow had the recovery to come back, after two weeks of fighting for GC, completely out of his element, and completely destroy everyone in the time trial.
Tom Dumoulin will win this Vuelta I think. He won't be dropped unless something crazy happens. He can now stand in arms among greats and legends in the sport like Chris Horner and Juan Jose Cobo.
Nominate a clean GT winner in the last few years, how would Dumoulin be any worse than Froome, Wiggins, Contador, Hasjedal?
Uhm Sastre? Menchov?
You can't be serious with Menchov.
Die hard fan of Tom Boonen and Quickstep since 2004.

I rarely agree with you Bball, but i cant agree more here. Dumoulin and his lunacy are the single reason i dont care about this race since week 1. Vuelta is surely the most dramatic GT of the year now few years running, but also the biggest BS scene.

Maybe because he rides for Astana? That's enough for me to not want any of their riders to get a victory, because it just gives Vinokourov and co. more power so the UCI won't disband them despite a ridiculous record of doping infractions.
And Menchov as a clean GC winner?

seriously? I can believe such a mentatlity now or week 2 but not week 1. that seems to me like saying that riders like Gallopin/Kwiatkowski are top 10 in the tour after 10 stages is also lunacy. sure it's Thomas TdF kind of lunacy right now (if he actually wins he'll go up one more level and achievence Froome lunacy) but at week 1 nobody would have given cents for Dumoulin to win.

You are right, week 2 would be better to say, but i was amazed in a negative way by his 6th and 7th stage already and had a "bad" feeling since then. But yeah, to be honest i expected total crack in 11th stage and after, but it did not happen.

Chavenal in the top 15 on the stage, not what I was hoping for but not bad.
Please Rodriguez, amazing attack to take back the lead.

I think that there is a small comparison with Dumoulin and Froome. I don't know why... |

I find it really funny that Aru's and Purito's game of chess in the mountains has started the Tommy D Doping/Hate thread
Getting Hesjedal'd taught Purito absolutely nothing.

Well, I don't like Astana as well. The Menchov thing was obviously a joke I knew he wasn't clean but I like the guy. Can't blame me for that, even the greatest Eddy Merckz dope back then.

I am glad the Menchov reference was a joke because it was was concerning that somebody might think he was clean, I also wouldn't bet my house that Sastre was clean.

Purito was just destined to never win a GT, it's not down to bad luck or anything like that it was just wasn't meant to be

He should have won a GT in 2012, he had two almost 100% wins, and somehow he managed to throw them away. |

that's the sole reason that Dumoulin is high in the GC. a trumpcard from the Universe should Aru not cut it against Rodriguez

I know it's amazing how he managed not to win a GT in 2012, he was absolutely flying that year and the fact he couldn't bag one is truly impressive

Guess Purito is going to try something soon seeing that Katusha has just sent a rider up the road
