Fantastic preview! Movistar - US Postal's expectations:
1. Maksimov to be seen in the sprints in the first week.
2. TVG to challenge Bakelants for Red on Stages 4 & 6.
3. Ratiy to somehow finish inside the Top 20.
4. Breakaway stage wins. Best bet being Bruno Borges.

Brenes, Aziz, Froome and Cicero..stage win is the bare minumum..not idea about Brenes in GC, would rather him suck for 2 weeks and then target KoM and stage wins..we'll see...Cicero and Froome have sucked majorly this season so far...hopefully they can change it a bit around.

The first 3 stages will make or break the race for us. Great opportunity for Swift to take the race lead and score some good points, hopefully having the edge on Mohs unlike last year. Not our strongest lead out train with Van der Lijke absent, but Merino Criado should be a strong main leadout on home roads, and Harrison can step up to the 3rd man position.
Would be great if Suaza can take a Top 20 here, and Medvedev to regularly go on the attack in the breakaway on the Mountain stages - if not Suaza too! Will be fun to watch the GC fight. There's no stand out rider across all terrains, which makes it all the more interesting.

Bouygues come here as stage hunters, and at least this time we won't have to rely on Roelandts deciding whether he wants to sprint (not that he'd win against this field).
Bakelants should be aiming for a stage win, and if he can get into the race lead on stage 4, it'll already have been an excellent Vuelta for us.
We also have Tony Martin and Hugues Mottin for the time trials, so either of them (probably Martin) could be challenging for the race lead on stage 5.
However, we've also got GC ambitions in Wellens, who I'm hoping will take a top 20, if not perhaps sneak into the top 15 or maybe even top 10
With those 3 time trials, I'm going for an outsider in Taylor Phinney to if not win, at least podium, although it will be hard to see Tenorio or Pluchkin not in those top 3 spots

On all accounts, I've brought a weak squad here. Sometimes that comes out alright with breakaways and wins, but other times, nothing happens. Hopefully without Ponzi riding here for GC, Scarponi can ride for himself and get a Top 25 GC position with a spot of luck and good fortune. Maybe Pavarin for a stage win on an intermediate stage too.
Otherwise, good luck everyone else for the Vuelta!!! Pluischin for the win though in my books.

Hoping my sprinter loanee Nazir Jaser can try get some top 20s.
Also hope that climber loanee Ruben Fernandez can work some wonders in his home country and go for the breakaway and maybe snare a stage win.

Hoping for a Top 10 with Cunego here. With any luck even a Top 5 thanks to the hills, but the TTs will probably hurt Cunego's chances. I regret sending him here over the Tour route-wise, but I thought he would have easier competition. Bennati will hopefully grab a couple decent results as well. ''

Supporting Gesink here. Results haven't been great this season and this race really suits him well. Then again all the strong GC guys are strong against the clock.
Think Pliuschin will win though. In a race with plenty of TTs he could win it in the mountains being the only 85 guy here.
Personally hoping our loanees Grmay and Kebede go well, would be nice to see them join the break at some point. |

Kritskiy's main dish of the season, really hope pcm14 can handle this one, but I fear major breakaways.

Ah, that's a shame. Mohs is just a Vuelta beast.
Btw, tsmoha, I know you've written the reports for these long ago, but it would be nice in future if you could mix up the camera angles in the sprints. It's nice to have some front on shots during the sprint, rather than needing binoculars to see who is in the lead

Pretty happy with 5th here. I hope Tzortzakis can keep on doing that. Picking the wheel of Swift is probably not a bad idea.
What happened to Koretzky btw? He is my main hope for a stagewin in this Vuelta, so it would suck if he already crashed and injured himself.
