Giro d'Italia Discussion

At least a Top-10 for Pozzovivo. That's all I could have hoped for after this rather disappointing race for him (not talking about the final result, but his losses in the hills were surely too much for my liking).

Stage-win goal still missing... You know what? I expect a breakaway victory for the final stage, which would perfectly fit to this race. This situation with Goss surviving is simply too good to be true Wink

Finally the big guns battling for the stage and it's surely the perfect moment, too. Schleck with an outstanding victory then. A deserved winner, if nothing special happens in the final stage!

Down to 4 riders, no sprinters left so I guess Prevar just has to force himself in the break again to have any chance on winning a stage.

Maybe your team was just too shitty Pfft

Pfft

Epic stage and great Giro for Tinkoff; 12th in GC, 5 riders in top-50, 2nd U25, 3rd and 4th KoM, best team and 1 (mountain)stage win!

I'm going to read the report again!

Only one DNF for me and that's with only 3 climbers sent here (79, 76, 74).

As for a few riders finishing the race you might want to check La Vuelta 2012. Only 103 finishers and the 17th place more than one hour behind the winner.

They were shitty indeed, but proved to be good pick for a winning TTT Pfft

At least i had one guy 70+ mountains and he survived together with Igantiev. Grin

Sure. Why be lucky when you can be the opposite.

EDIT: I always knew this stage would happen, but it really sucks to have it on the final stage. At this point I would have been thrilled with 3rd, but I kinda expectes to be only in top 5, as I have tried saying a lot. Too bad he didnt want to attack as he really didnt Seem to be THAT weak.

What annoys me the most, though, is that all my sprinters abandoned now. I had really looked forward for that final spring in Milano. I have had many bad experiences with the Giro in the past, and while this is without a doubt the best for me ever, It still feels like the biggest kick to my face. Only Ricco abandoning the race from 4th place, last season felt similar. This race seemed to be the bandage for the massive amount of bad luck I have had in GTs, and it was. But just one more decent stage was missing.

I'm going to go cry, what the hell happened to Pinot after the MTT? Sad

I'll do a more detailed post when I get home later.

Totally expected.. Madrazo really does not act like 85MO rider in mountains for some time now Always on the back foot.. Not sure why.. But oh well.
Thanks to TTs this would have been a disaster but at least that saved the Giro for us. Well done Roturn on another quality report.

Jaser you legend managing to finish last on the stage of those who will continue tomorrow. Ruben Fernandez 13 seconds ahead of Parra Bustamante is a nice little battle. Jaser three off that bottom spot in the GC.
Hopefully one of them gets a good result from the breakaway on what should be an interesting final stage!

Thanks for the reporting all race roturn! Busy stage to cover today for sure.

Wow, what an epic, brutal stage. Was never guaranteed with a profile like that but fortunately a number of teams drove a fast pace from the start, so a big thanks to them!

Amazing how quickly the gap went out to Ricco. Finally his lack of support backfired, but still his race has to go down as one of the great MG performances to lead for so long, and come so close, in what was billed as a 2-horse race - where he wasnt even expected to come 3rd. Of course a podium would have been deserved but after so much good luck all race, 4th is still a strong result for him. With all those gaps on the hills, I'm just glad it was Ricco here rather than Spilak! Pfft And for Cunego to get a final GT podium is pretty cool for a MG legend. Can't help but support the efforts of an aging star when I have Frank Schleck going through the same process too.

Catching the breakaway was important. Schleck has gained 16 and 14 seconds on Madrazo in finish kicks earlier in the race but needed 18 here, so time bonus already helped that. Still it's hard to imagine that Schleck would gain on Madrazo in pretty much every mountain stage, but again, he did it. Fantastic win, and so close now to completing the GT set for both him and also for me.

A couple of seasons ago I thought Madrazo had turned into an unbeatable Grand Tour beast, but it isn't turning out the way right now. He'll have GT wins in future for sure, perhaps just needs a return home to the Vuelta to find whatever is missing.

Quite interesting to see such a GC shake up on the penultimate stage, and nice that it was led by the favourites for once, rather than the breakaway. Big performance by Guldhammer for 5th but quite disappointing for Denifl to only manage 9th. He was so strong in GTs last year, but never really in it this race. Somewhat notable that Faiers achieves what must be the first British GT Top 10 for a British rider in the ManGame.

Pity for most of the sprinters to fall at the final hurdle. They did well to hang on so long but a mountain stage raced from the gun, this late in the race, always spelt trouble. Would be nice for Goss to take a World Champions win on the final stage, or Ponzi to win the sprint of a tired peloton to salvage something for Good Energy, but I guess it could be a breakaway won by either Pendleton's or Tinkoff instead.

So long as we don't see any crashes on the final stage involving GC riders. It's not unknown for the Giro...

Remaining Startlist

Poor Metinvest and Orange with 2 riders only left.

Kudos to Good Energy and Aker who have the complete team left.

Also Tinkoff only lost 1 which seems to be their big bonus as they used to finish a GT with many riders in the past already.

Goss clearly the best sprinter left but not much support for chasing and a sprint train.

I hope someone from my team joins the breakaway for the last stage based on this...

tsmoha
Thanks for that gimmick startlist.

Goss/Oz will fail. Too bad his presence will also prevent us from joining the break, I guess Grin

I see Rogers chasing the breakaway/setting up the pace in that screenshot.

I hope we will also help with the chase for Kreder. We definitely have the power to do so.

Cool table Roturn...well not so cool for us though. Pfft

Our two remaining guys both have nice sprint in them, so i hope they can be near the front if the break of any kind should be caught. Ignatiev, make our Giro even better! Smile

This is a coincidence though.
The start list was taken at the beginning. It`s a circuit race and even though there is a 20km banner it`s shot with ~100km to go.

alexkr00
I've figured. Hence I edited my posted saying he might be just pacing.

Still, if he's there with no breakaway, he probably will be there when there will be one too Pfft
