E3 Prijs
The cobbled classics are well underway and after the PCT/CT teams fought out Gent - Wevelgem most recently, it's now time for the HC classic E3 Prijs. Going into it's eight edition, one of the longest running Continental events. Bernhard Eisel (AMEX) took out the previous two editions and is at the start this year, too.
A challenging parcours - flat rated, but featuring the typical short climbs for a tough race. We may expect a more selective race than we had at G-W, for example.
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | COB | SPR | Rider | COB | SPR | Summerhill | 82 | 70 | Breschel | 77 | 77 | Vanspeybrouck | 82 | 67 | Trentin | 77 | 75 | Baugnies | 80 | 65 | Daniel | 77 | 74 | Boonen | 79 | 81 | Drucker | 77 | 74 | Thomas | 79 | 74 | Ferreira | 77 | 69 | Vanmarcke | 79 | 70 | Steurs | 77 | 65 | Maes | 79 | 62 | Nuyens | 77 | 59 | Machado | 79 | 62 | Eisel | 76 | 75 | Veelers | 78 | 76 | Lagab | 76 | 72 | Albert | 78 | 63 | Nooytens | 76 | 69 | Vandenbergh | 78 | 62 | Flaksis | 76 | 61 | Stallaert | 77 | 79 | Nepomnyachsniy | 75 | 78 |
As already mentioned, Eisel is back here and at least amongst those challenging for a Top-10. He's not that special anymore, but still comes with a nice finishing kick. Something, that helped Puma's Daniel winning G-W most recently. If we see a similar race unfolding, he surely should be watched closely.
Summerhill and especially Vanspeybrouck need to bounce back from a rather disappointing performance at G-W, while Boonen showed some smarter tactics (and better legs) to prove he's still a true force. Baugnies may again go for attacks on this more hilly route.
Almost the same startlist we had in Gent, so Vanmarcke, Thomas, Vandenbergh, Maes or Machado as a few more favorites here.. Veelers, Drucker and Nepomnyachsniy amongst those not racing in G-W, but combining cobbles with a nice sprint.

Obviously yet another top5 wanted.
And hopefully Nooytens is doing better than in Dwars Door Vlaanderen, where he dropped as one of the earliest 70+ cobblers.
Surely one of my favourite MG races as my team has a nice history here. Win with Boom and another top5 with him the year after I believe. Unfortunately didn`t find room for him to participate here. And with Vanmarcke this is obviously not needed as much. |

Nutresa hope to continue decent cobbled performances. Would be nice to see Mebrahtu show his national jersey - the one disapointment of the classic season thus far has been his complete anonymity. VDB (Nutresa version i.e. Stijn) and Del Nero have been very solid though. Poor loanee Parra Bustamante continues to gain experience on his least favourite terrain (cb = 51); each one of these races he manages to finish is an achievement!

No Verbist here? My god I am a moron
(I checked though, my fault, not of the reporters )
Fuck this sucks. What was I thinking
Anyway Maes it'd be nice to see a serious attack from you this time.

I definitely expect a more selective race so the top cobblers Vanspeybrouck and especially Summerhill are favourites after Boonen like riders had the advantage in the more sprinter friendly GW and DDV.
Speaking of Boonen, i at least expect a top five again. But better results are accepted as well
I've bought my complete support team for the cobbles so we are prepared to help chasing but I would not mind if Kulppi joins another break.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

I'm expecting another top 15 from Drucker but I'm hoping this will be the one where he manages to get a bit of luck and nab a top 10. He'd have to be on a good day for it but I'm hoping it's his turn for one.

The past two editions of the E3 have been won in a small sprint by Bernhard Eisel. The race will be selective but the top 10-12 cobblers should be close in the final kilometer.
With Eisel gone, AMEX-Navigon has their hopes for a top 5 finish on the shoulders of Jerome Baugnies and since has the sprint speed of turtle, we hope he make one of his classis late attacks.
We also would like to see Matti Breschel in the top 10 and Michael Kurth and Kenny DeHaes in the points.

Cobbles really isn't our best terrain so I'm not expecting anything here. Hopefully when the favourites attack a big group is left behind to sprint for a top 10 place or so, and Marcato can get involved. Probably our only shot of doing well here.
Baugnies to win. Thanks for once again for reporting tsmoha, you seem to be doing all of our races at the moment. Thanks for all the hard work! |

Going to take some work as Summerhill will be asked to do it all by himself again, need to make this selective and leave everyone else behind with several kilometers before the finish.

After a mediocre Dwars door Vlaanderen our cobble team is looking to bounce back.
It will be hard though. Cobble races are much more selective than we expected this year, so our strategy of going for a relatively weak cobble leader with a strong sprint is backfiring.
We don't have a top 5 favorite here, but I hope one or two of Veelers, Pozzato or Nuyens can hang on and sneak into top 10.

Best we can offer are two or three top30 contenders (Gatto, Taramarcaz, Schär)... we'll better join the break.
Sadly our pavé-additions doesn't match the enhanced PCT competition requirements.

A top15 would already be an historic result for us. Let this one last little time.

Apparently all I can really hope for is a top 10.

14th gives us some points I guess, hoped for a top 10 but maybe this is the best we could've hoped for

11th that's a great result for us, should help in the fight to avoid last. it's nice to see fellow strugglers Lululemon get a big result here, hopefully it's a sign that we should get one at some point later in the season.
