I can understand all the speculation about doping, but there hasn't necessarily been anything to suggest it sofar.
However, if Froome and Sky continues like this the rest of the Tour, and if this is a lasting trend, then we can talk. It might very well be that the other riders had a bad day; it's the first day since the restday and the first day in the mountains.
If Froome ends up winning by arriving two days early on a velocipede, then we can talk. Only talk, not crucify.

Let's be serious, Armstrong also crushed his rivals and we all know how that story ended. Champions are forged slowly, and they can't be done without the proper base, I can't believe that Sky is smarter than everyone and they're simple doing "magic" turning sprinters, classic cyclist or "John Does" into Mountain Beasts. Just to put this into perspective: Porte has finished superclose 2nd in January during Tour Down Under, 1st in Paris Nice in March, 1st in Catalunya in end of March, 1st in Trentino in mid April, his focal point clearly was the Giro where he had to drop out and comes back to beat Quintana.
Thomas won the Vuelta ao Algarve in February, finished in remarkable 5th place in Paris Nice in March. His focal point were the cobble races, he won Harelbecke in end of March, finishing 3rd in Wevelgem and 14th in Vlaanderen in April, then finished 2nd in the Tour de Suisse in June and now has to restrain himself to pass Valverde on the last few meters of a mountaintop finish where he lost only 1 minute to Quintana putting 30seconds between himself and van Garderen along the way (not even speaking of Contador here).
This is just way too good to be true. What is Sky doing so much better than everyone else?
I felt reminded of the dark ages of cycling today and this stage leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Ok, the rest of the favorites underperformed, but how can everyone underperform so badly while the Sky people finish 1st, 2nd and 5th with riders that have been racing and winning races all year long?
I liked the Vuelta last year because of the 4 top riders being very close in their performances in the mountains. Today, on a stage that featured one difficult climb but was flat otherwise, the leader and the 10th were seperated by 2.30min and 3 riders of one team finished within the top 6.
Of course there are still lots of stages left and not everything is said and done, but it certainly looks pretty sketchy! |

Fuglsang on today's stage: Vino told me I rode the last 8 kilometres 30 seconds slower than Froome. Obviously I could rest for the first 7 kilometres with Vincenzo (  ), so I gained some confidence today. |

Well this was a nice present to come home to this evening......
Yes Froome went full alien today, and indeed so did the whole of Sky (I mean Geraint Thomas, what the actual fuck?) but I do sense the day-after-the-rest-day magic working some tricks here - Froome's mutant performance was highlighted by the weaknesses of the others, namely Contador and Nibali. Nevertheless the Tour is decided after just one single climb in the mountains; I will continue to watch whenever I can in the vain hope that Nairo can pull off a miracle, but even I am not confident.

INRNG proves once again he is a genius. I genuinely enjoy reading all his stuff, compared to the hipsters over at Rouleur.
Stromeon: Believe. Nairo will come back. I at least doubt he will lose the Tour by more than 3 minutes. I dont reckon he love this kinda wheather, compared to Froome, which seems to get better by the temperature. I could see a Sastre-iike attack on Alpe or La Tousuirre, but I doubt Valv will only help him half-heartedly.. the guy has too much pride and honestly, Im not even mad. |

Your post made my day you're expecting Quintana to pull off a miracle which won't happen unless froome is injured but in this case he wouldn't won it in the right scenario. Froome is flying right now and everyone was expecting the pure climber to win but instead froome showed a lesson. No way froome can lose now and the rest of favorites need to fight for podium now. |

I am hoping Kelderman wins on Alpe d'Huez, but the odds aren't in my favour. Can't expect it from him though 
Don't think Quintana can pull this off either, but I wouldn't completely exclude it. 1 or 2 offdays for Sky and he can be within reach. 2013 Tour had Quintana also winning some time back in 3rd week.

What should be Thomas' nickname? Big Geraint Thomas or Captain Welshheart?
More serious: Anybody that can help me who was the last cobbles contender that climbed like this on a big time MTF? Hincapie never was this good.
Nardell but that was after the Festina scandal with half the peloton gone. And he was never a good climber anyway.

I remember Hincapie in 2005 on Pla d' Adet. He beat really good climbers, not top tier tho, in a break. But nah, he wasnt this good. One thing which speaks for Thomas tho is his slim figure. He kinda has a climber-type body, quite similar to Gesink
You probably have to go back to Hinault? Im not sure. |

This is why we need long TTs. The whole GC is pretty well decided. Quintana will take second and TVG third. Without a TT for guys like Contador to make up time these guys just have to follow their nearest rivals.
Sky ruin another race.
Tempting to just sleep through this now. It is not worth staying up until 2am to watch this chemically induced shit.
