PT Rankings Update
SportingNonsense
Time for a first rankings update for the PT in 2015, with 10 PT races completed - and also points scored by teams in 3 of the 5 HC races so far.

Victory on the opening day made Tinkoff the first leaders of the division, but by Qatar they were soon surpassed as two teams already took hold of the top of the standings. Ben Swift defeated Sam Bewley there and so Vesuvio led Becherovka in the standings.

Through the fortune of Schlechter and the scores from Gastauer and the Schlecks in the triple header that lead increased. But in the last 4 classics Becherovka have scored almost 800 points more than Vesuvio. Sergent's 2nd at Herbiers but them into the lead, and the points of Bewley have given them over 350 points' advantage.

Up in 3rd place are Aker - MOT after a huge triple header where they won both Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico. With Kristoff now joining Boasson Hagen and Martin in the points scoring they are looking strong right now.

4th place sees the highest promoting team, and it is Oz Cycling Project! They've been picking up strong posts consistently across most races, with their highlight being Pozzovivvo's 4th overall at Tirreno. They also managed to pick up a more than useful 158 pts in their HC outing at Bayern Rundfahrt.

Festina complete the Top 5, while Holloway's Lisbon triumph fired Simply Red Bull up to 6th. Pokerstars and Good Energy were two high flyers at this stage last year, but only find themselves 7th and 9th this time.

After Oz there is a bit of a gap to the next placed promoting team. Quickstep are 13th, with Metinvest and Bacardi also in the Top 15. For Metinvest, their surprise Herbiers win for Zmorka and the back to back San Remo/Herbiers podiums for Ignatiev really were vital - they could well have been bottom otherwise.

Instead it is Swisscom - UBS who are languishing at the foot of the table, with both they and Meiji currently sitting behind Ayubowan, who were widely expected to be bottom all season long. Orange and Venchi complete the relegation zone, with Movistar and Pendleton's just outside it.

Sam Bewley dominates the individual standings - he almost has more points than 2nd and 3rd place (Hagen and Trofimov) combined. Ben Swift boasts the highest total from one race so far, all of his 418 points come from Qatar. Degenkolb completes the Top 5, holding off former teammate Holloway.

Hoping we could hold around that spot this year. I guess a lot this year will depend on the Vuelta for us. If we don't score well there, we might be in big troubles. Or i could always hope for some Metinvast-style fluke win Pfft.

Becherovka is in a great position though, Bewley is just a monster, especially with Boonen declining. Great to see Oz up there aswell!

We're not last and Sisira is in the top 150 in the rankings - which will be useful trying to get Sri Lanka a WC spot - so I'm very content. Just got to keep this up.

Not surprised with where we are. The season has been below expectations so far, and even my expectations were going to be in or around the relegation spots.

Some surprises in this first ranking, OZ well above what I expected and Venchi well below

Ouch. Never much fun to be in the relegation zone, but luckily, there's still plenty of time to turn it around.

This start is very, very nice! Smile

Just hope we can build on this and avoid bad races for especially Boasson Hagen, that's the obvious key for us, and he's also the rider that on paper should be most capable of delivering consistent top results, but we learned last year that it's easier said than done.

Not much to say about Bewley, really. A brilliant start to the season and being the rider behind 50 percent of Becherovka's points really says it all. At the other end it has been a very bad start for Swisscom, but they should start to get going when the Grand Tours and mountain heavy stage races start for real.

Thanks for the update, SN, much appreciated Smile

Well, really great start for us, but we could have even more amount of points by quite a lot if Howard would actually get us at least something in his races! Flanders and Roubaix will be crucial for us, if we really want to get into the top 3 after Lombardia, we really need to create a bigger advantage on Festina and Red Bull before the main part of hilly season comes. Vesuvio seems to be the biggest favourite for the win now. Aker and Oz a little bit higher than I have expected, nice to see them doing so great so far.

Thanks for the update. Oh and Bewley has a really nice lead. May actually have a chance to win it all this season! Grin

So far, so good!

The consistent Top-10 results paid off here. It's weird though: Pozzovivo definitely overperformed in T-A, but on the other hand, Burghardt and also Goss already missed out on some points we expected them to collect. It can only become worse from now on, but it's nice to see Oz so high now. Burghardt should really do well in the big cobbled classics. That would help us staying high for a few more weeks then.

Bewley go home Pfft

It's quite cool being so high up when none of my top 4 scorers are Schlecks. But even though Kittel did well at Herbiers, we were the 5th lowest scoring team over the last 4 races. Other teams have a bit more reliable depth, so it's up to Andy and Swift to bring in the big points in their races to keep us towards the top.

A bit surprised I am so high in the rankings. Then again, the 18th place is close than the 10th place.

Also, Remco Broers - what a legend.

He has been a nice breakaway rider for us. Hopefully he keeps it up. Smile

Overall, right about where I thought we would be. The only way we are staying up is through TVG overperforming and a lot of breakaway success. So far we have got some of that and it's the only reason we aren't in the bottom 5.

I could easily see this going all downhill once the GTs start. Sad

Thanks for the update SN! Smile

Pretty cool to see us inside top15 in our first PT update ever. given the nature of first third of the season, that should not suit our team much. Of course Herbiers + San Remo are the reasons for our nice spot, crucial races indeed. It can prove very important in few months. Ignatiev already proving his PT value, with nice 360 points haul.

Now i hope to hold top15 over Basque tour and cobbled monuments, where we need our duo of Nolf and Sibilla to do well. Because we will most likely slide lower after Giro, which is just stage hunting for us...

Becherovka with expected lead, but still Vesuvio are my favourites for this year.

Oz doing great for a promoted team, no underperforming Tsmoha. Wink
I'll be back

Yes the early season has been okay for us, we are used to doing well in the cobbles but not usually that good in the trifecta stage race challenge (no of course two stage races and classic).

Dan Holloway after a poor Qatar has really come into his own and we have a lot to look forward to over the season. Fab and Jose though have a lot of improvement to show really in TTs (Fab) and Mountains (Jose).

Thanks to all the reporters early season - the GTs are coming and those always for me are big highlights along with the Spring Classics. A Hagen/Bewley domination could really place Aker And Becherovka in great positions. Hard to see those two not going well, we shall see though.

Pretty happy with 10th Hopefully we can climb a bit from there, but wont complain if we end there either.

Bewley a monster

Suprised by how high Oz is, and by UBS being below Ayubowan!, also by Pendelton not on relegation spot Shock

I am extremely surprised that we are in top 5. I think we have had an absolut dreadful season so far, where we have underperformed more often than not. Basically only the races where we didn't really have ambition of a top end top 10 we have gotten exactly what we came for, or slightly better.

Thankfully my riders scores a bit here and there, and many many riders are scoring.

The cobbles aren't good for us, so we will definately drop there, so we have to hope that Ricco can do something in his small GC race.
