As almost every January, screenshots of the upcoming title have been released. The primary focus (or perhaps the only focus) is to show-off the new graphics engine, so lean back and enjoy the screenshots. The 2010 logo for the game has also been included, but as you probably have guessed already, the changes to it are rather limited.
And one point goes to the one who can find one "mistake" in one of the screenshots ;)
In the press release that came with the screenshots, a new Season Mode is mentioned. As far as my French (and Google Translate) goes, you get the chance to pick out the teams, races, stages, etc. you want to participate in the career. There's probably more to the feature, but we'll have to ask Cyanide about that later.
Other than that, it's basically just repeats of what we already know about the game.
PCM.daily is pleased to announce the creation of a brand new year-long fantasy cycling game. In the past we have done the Olympics and the Tour de France, but one of the winning ideas from our Ideas Competition in July was to have a yearlong competition.
And so here it is, from January to November, the Australian national championships to the Tour of Hainan, you will have a reason to take interest in every single cycling race, categorised .1 and above. You will be able to join this game at any point during the year, but it is of course best to join straight away and be in contention for the overall competition.
The basic premise is similar to our previous games. Your team has a budget of 10,000,000, and you will spend this on a squad of between 16 and 30 riders, from a huge pool of riders. There can be no more than 10 riders from one particular team, while you must pick at least 5 ProTour rider and 5 ProContinental riders, but beyond that you are free to choose your team how you please.
You could choose to pick a squad for the whole year now, and leave it as that, or you could be actively involved for the whole season as you will be able to change parts of your squad every month. In the last week of each month, you will receive the opportunity to bring in 4 new riders and get rid of as many as you want (so long as your team remains no lower than 16 riders), who will then become part of your team from the start of the next month. With the limit of only 4 new rider per month, you will still need to plan ahead, but it means the tactics of when to bring in a cobbled specialist or grand tour leader become important.
To join the game, you just need to make a list of 16-30 riders, making sure that you do not go over the 10,000,000 budget, think of a team name and post them as a comment to this news article. Alternatively you could use this excel file to help you decide your team and stay within budget, which can then be PMed to either Rjc_43 or SportingNonsense.
Thanks for playing, round 5 returns in January 2010. Thanks for playing in 2009, Merry Christmas.

SportingNonsense keeps his lead after round 4's 2nd event but newcomer Jonathan put in a strong performance to gain 66 points and move to 6th overall. 4 Rounds in the final title is still very open with the top positions being so close.
