Yep, we finally reached the 50th edition of the Weekly News. We have, of course, existed for much more than 50 weeks, but as you know, we once in a while tend to "forget" them - mainly because there's not always not enough news. Anyway, here we go - 50th edition and still going strong ;)
Waghlon reviews the Bouri 08 DB Despite all the critism and "flaming", Waghlon has just published a just as critical review, and this time it's the French who's going down. Bouri released his DB last week and was immediately critized by pretty much everyone who tried the DB, and this critism is repeated in Waghlon's review. You can read it here and have a good laugh :)
..and if you want the DB anyway Well, yes, if you've read the review and want to see if it really is as bad as Waghlon says, you can download it here at PCM.daily. Specs-wise, it sounds good. It's based on the PCM Spain-project, it's a huge package with lots of graphical improvements, and you get a 08 DB - or, well, you "partly" get a 08 DB since the guy has actually forgot to change some of the teams' names and abbreviations. Read the review for more information, or go straight to download here.
So if you want a good 08 db ... ... you have to wait. The Spanish website, EuskalPCM, released their 2008 project, and despite much critism one of the creators didn't hesitate to call the project for "the best DB of the world". I doubt it's true, though, since it hasn't exactly received good votes in our DL-section. Anyway, you get an updated DB with 45 teams, you get the shirts for the teams and a set of accesories. It does probably also have more stuff than that, but these weren't mentioned in the official announcement. You can download the large pack here.
U23 Talents DB available And since you have now experienced that there's no good 2008 databases available, you might be interested in this DB instead. It's a Talents DB which solely consists of U23 riders and teams. It's made by the Italian community, and that also means there's a lot of Italian riders and teams -- but you do get "international" teams and riders too, though. It's an interesting DB, and it's good to see something "new" instead of just another hopeless attempt at making a 2008 database. So, if you're as enthusiatic as me, go ahead and download it here.
New icons Danish member, Lampert, has made a bunch of new icons to use with the game. You get icons for pretty much everything in the game, including icons for trainers, doctors, scouts, Pro Tour & Continental Tour, and much, much more. There's a screenshot in the download description. See it and download it here.
Valverde to win the Pro Tour After a few weeks of voting, most you tend to think that Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) will win the Pro Tour. He got 15 % of the votes. 1 percent more voted that they thought an unlisted guy would win. Time will tell, but one thing's for sure: The winner of the Pro Tour is not necessarily the best cyclist throughout the year - just look at the PT-calendar ;)
Minor site updates With help from Aab-ern, I've added a new statistic to the site -- "Most Active Forummers". It shows the most active members in the forum, both the most active during the past 24 hours and the past 7 days. It only counts forum posts, not comments ;) Other than that, we have made it possible to avoid the advertisements which are placed around the site. You can read more about that here.
