Chrono des Herbiers (PT) - Discussion
Welcome to France for the Chrono des Herbiers. The race has been running since 2008 and is here to stay. Unless the calendar team decides it isn't, then it is not here to stay, but here to leave. Anyway, let's have a look at the race profile. Or as they would say in French, le profil du racé.
Not a surprise, it's a time trial course. Name would be quite misleading if it weren't. Würtz won the last three editions of the race and Phinney the five times before that, but there's a new top favourite, as seen in the list of favourites below.
| Nat. | Name | TT | | Wirtgen Tom | 84 | | Würtz Mads | 83 | | Zmorka Marlen | 82 | | Phinney Taylor | 81 | | Mullen Ryan | 81 | | Durbridge Luke | 80 | | Lammertink Steven | 80 | | Gonzalez Salas Mario | 80 | | Mano Yuttana | 80 | | Sütterlin Jasha | 80 | | Bernal Egan | 80 | | Ganna Filippo | 80 | | Oliveira Ivo | 79 | | Tanfield Harry | 79 | | Rekita Szymon | 79 | | Vlatos Panagiotis | 79 | | Zakarin Aydar | 79 | | Razumov Nikita | 79 | | Yatsevich Kiril | 79 |
And his name is John Cena, tutututuuuu. But not really, his name is Tom Wirtgen. Nevertheless, the top favourite has been beaten by both Würtz and 2015 winner Zmorka this season on several occasions. These three names are expected on the podium, but nothing is certain.
Guys aiming for a podium spot as well are Phinney and Mullen, or at the very least they'd like to defend a top-five position agains the batch of 80 and even 79 rated time trialists.
That's it for today, good luck to all tomorrow, especially to the Greek, German and Ukrainian national time trial champions. Startlist in the spoiler.

Two in top10 would be nice. Can`t hope for much more as even a top5 is not guaranteed here. |

I am sure we could be favourites for the bottom spot. The only «filler race» we do this season, and to compensate for that, we do it properly |

No dice.
Thanks for both preview and report.

Well well well.
I knew Salas is a regular overperformer in TTs this season and he again doing so as 7th, which is about correct stat wise but he is then kind of best of all those similar riders but Sütterlin.
Similar for Phinney, who is just right stat wise but also on the better side ahead of Mullen.
So 4th and 7th is perfectly fine for my team here. In especially after years and years and basically a decade without proper TT lineups (but Keizer for some time to be fair). |

A bit below par maybe but far from disastrous from Ganna slotting in the lower Top 10. Thanks for the report

Very nice result for us I think. Zmorka on the podium and Sütterlin as best 80 tt'ist in sixth gives us some very welcome points. Vlatos as worst 79 rated (perhaps second worst, not sure) isn't amazing, but it's still respectable to finish a 48 km long race at his age.
Thank you for the great report, Imladrik, and thanks for posting kandesbunzler.

I am sure we can all agree to turn the results upside down
Seriously, though, congratulations to SN on the Wirtgen show, and thank you for the report! |

Very unlucky for Mano to be the last of that pack in 6th - 12th within 3 seconds. Congrats SN and thanks for the report! |

Considering the field, Leknessund did an ok job. We just don't have that top tier TT firepower.

Always hoping for a win, but couldn't be expected with Wirtgen performing at his best level. All in all happy with the 2nd place. Thanks for the report!

Both Mullen & Bernal finished where they should be, so no complains.
