Ronde van Vlaanderen
One of the MGUCI's flagship events, the Ronde van Vlaanderen still welcomes the top cobblers. The route doesn't differ much from previous editions with 265 km across the Flemmish cobblestones and hills. In the past we've seen Tom Boonen and Sam Bewley dominate this gruelling race with 5 and 4 wins respevitvely. Both have retired and the last 3 years have seen first time winners in Danny Summerhill, Edward Theuns and Mads Pedersen.
| 1 | Mads Pedersen | Grieg-Maersk | 6h47'01 | | 2 | Danny Summerhill | cycleYorkshire | + 31 | | 3 | David Per | Isostar - Specialized | + 52 | | 4 | Floris Gerts | Huski Chocolate | + 1'09 | | 5 | Mekseb Debesay | Duolingo | s.t. | | 6 | Lukasz Wisniowski | Aker - MOT | s.t. | | 7 | Patrick Gamper | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | s.t. | | 8 | Arman Kamyshev | Tinkoff - La Datcha Team | s.t. | | 9 | Mike Teunissen | Gazelle | s.t. | | 10 | Marcos Altur | Polar | + 1'32 |
Pedersen outlasted the 2020 winner Summerhill by 31 seconds. The Dane returns to defend his title and is touted as one of the top favorites in this race. So is 3rd placed David Per, who has swaped the lime green colors of the now (and sadly) defunct Isostar team for the more darker green colors of Carlsberg. The runner-up and 2020 winner Summerhill will not return as he signed with PCT's Tryg-Gobik, who elected to not use a wildcard here. 2021 winner Theuns, who had signed with another PCT team in Jura GIANTS, on the other hand will return as his team choose to race here via wildcard. Of the Top 10 last year 7 riders return.
| Name | FL | HI | RS | CB | SP | AC | Wisniowski | 80 | 71 | 76 | 83 | 73 | 76 | Pedersen | 77 | 69 | 80 | 83 | 78 | 77 | Per | 79 | 70 | 75 | 82 | 74 | 74 | Gerts | 77 | 78 | 80 | 82 | 72 | 70 | Kamyshev | 77 | 65 | 75 | 82 | 66 | 60 | Altur | 75 | 70 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | Senechal | 75 | 67 | 74 | 82 | 69 | 74 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 74 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | Teunissen | 76 | 67 | 73 | 81 | 67 | 69 | Anderberg | 78 | 69 | 76 | 80 | 60 | 73 |
It is no surprise that Pedersen and Per are among the top 3 favorites this year abd would clearly want to replicate their success from last year. But the bookies view Wisniowski as the top favorite. The Polish cobbler was also a heavy favorite last year, but he finished 6th nearly 20 seconds behind Per. He'd certainly look to improve and prove why he's considered one of the top cobblers. Gerts, Kamyshev, Altur and Teunissen would also want to improve on their 2022 positions and could provide a surprise winner. We don't write off some wildcards here like Senechal Kasperkiewicz or Anderberg.
Will these riders surprise us?
| Name | FL | HI | RS | CB | SP | AC | Theuns | 72 | 74 | 73 | 80 | 77 | 76 | Vanbilsen | 77 | 68 | 72 | 79 | 71 | 69 | Tiller | 74 | 70 | 75 | 79 | 74 | 73 | Sulimov | 73 | 70 | 71 | 79 | 65 | 71 | Ferreira | 73 | 68 | 70 | 79 | 71 | 69 | Neilands | 77 | 69 | 73 | 78 | 71 | 67 | Moulingui | 74 | 71 | 71 | 78 | 65 | 68 | Polanc | 72 | 73 | 73 | 78 | 67 | 75 | Orue | 69 | 64 | 70 | 78 | 53 | 58 | Van den Berg | 77 | 64 | 77 | 77 | 71 | 70 |
Whily typically the top cobblers are the ones that win this race, there's a chance some of these riders could enter the Top 10 if the conditions are with them. Theuns stands out above the rest - the 2021 winner surely would look to return to the top before he starts to decline.
And here's the startlist as we at IESN hand over reporting duties to Imladrik.

We seem to be far away from a Top-50 chance, according to the results so far.. sooo.. let's get the cobbles season done and dusted quickly.
Ofc thanks to you guys doing the reports though

Here we go. We had a couple of warmup races, but now it's time to go for the big scoring. Ronde at our fingertips.
We have a top 10 goal here, so that's the absolute minimum that could possibly be acceptable, but obviously I hope and expect for more. Beating Aker will be very difficult, but another podium would be absolutely huge for our relegation fight. Bottom line is that Per has to come through when it matters most here.
Thanks for the preview!

We have been perfect so far on the cobbles, and I really hope we can have another similar performance in us. It would be amazing to perform similar to what we have done at a monument. We need great days for both Wisniowski and Anderberg, and hopefully one of their most important domestiques can also be on a good day. Then every ingredients needed is there, but Wisniowski/Anderberg still need to find a way to podium. Hopefully they're both strong enough to help each other covering/making different attacks, as that have worked very well in the first two outings.
Very excited for this one, and even more after the first two cobbles races we've done! |

Well, we need something big now. Can't say anything other than that. Hopefully a bad dress rehearsal gives us a better result here in RvV. Aker is the team to beat at the moment, so hopefully we will let them do the "dirty work" early on.

Same expectations as with any cobbled race this season. Try to sneak 1 or 2 riders in the top 50.
Thanks for the preview.

It's a monument so we want to do well. Realistically that would be getting in a breakaway and clutching some points that way

Similar to our other cobbled races we'll have to put our hopes in the God of Fortuna to see if one of our solid cobblers have a good day. No on from our team can be expected to deliver anything, but the sheer volume of decent level riders somehow add up to decent things, like the recent 12th place from Boutopoulos.
This races is more fierce, so we can't hope for a top 20, but who knows if we can cling a couple of guys into the top 30-50 area.

Going to need a minor miracle to score any noteworthy points here but hopefully Ovsya can keep his form rolling. A breakaway appearance would be nice to see too!
Thanks for the preview and looking forward to an exciting race

After the race that should not be pronounced, i have a pretty good feeling about Polancs chances here. Would be nice to continue in similar fashion!

Theuns' last dance at the world's highest cobbles level - let's go!
Macskako wasn't very inspiring, though, but maybe he just saved his best legs for his final monument at his peak...

Polanc as the winner is something alright! Big congrats!
Quite dissapointing in terms of visibility for us. Depth wise alright, as we filled those 40-50 spots up well enough to cover not getting any in top 30.

An improvement for Gerts compared to previous races, but still slightly worse than previous years. And I'm afraid we need him to do much better than that. Improvement in depth too for us, with 4 riders in top 30.
Congrats on a huge win, knockout. Pedersen on a slight redemption arc too. Sucks for Aker to not even be on the podium after dominating the opening races.

Holy shit, what is happening? The mad man did it. Ahahahahhaa im speechless. Wow.
Like seriously what am i supposed to say now? Lol, yay, hell yeah, wtf, wall of bananas, ridiculous, i had a "pretty good feeling". All of that at the same time and more.
I wanna point out Neilands in 13th, van der Haar in 16th completing an incredible team performance.

Wow, what an upset win Almost looks like +5 daily form is back
Huge congrats to knockout, that one must feel really, really good after a rather rough start to the season!
And what a race by Theuns! He may not have added a second monument win to his palmarès, but 3rd place is a fantastic result! He clearly saved his best wildcard race for his final participation - maxed Eddie is signing off from PT racing on a very, very high note!
Tediashvili in 32nd is a good result as well - and Schmid just outside the Top 50 makes me wonder if I actually should have taken the cobbles route with him...
Thanks for the report!

Quite the upset, but looks like Polanc simply was the strongest rider on the day. The best man on the Kwaremont, so that's quite the strong signal. Huge congrats on a big win, knockout.
A real good step in the right direction from Pedersen. The win is yet to come this year, so maybe he can do it in the Roubaix after missing out there last season? Looks like he is finding some of his best legs, so fingers crossed that he can continue like that. Flat cobbles should probably also suit him a tad better.
Disappointed abouth the depth again. Tiller looks like a shocking signing at the moment ...
Thanks for the report, Imladrik!

Insane stuff from Polanc, congrats knockout!
Meiler was absolutely pathetic here just like yesterday, with Rutsch at least giving us some points above minimum and a little bit of hope for the coming years, although 34th is nothing to write home about either for a 76 cobbler.
Thank you Imladrik!
