Last year's edition was significantly easier than this year, with no mountains. We started with a TTT of 9,2km and a Duolingo victory. Farantakis (ELCO) and Kamberaj (De Stijl) won the two flat stages after that. Emanuel Buchmann (Team UBS) won the first hilly stage. Then we say two breakaway wins for Turgis (De Stijl) and Burke (Zwift) before finishing of with a TT victory from Sajnok (Lierse SK). Buchmann couldn't hold his GC lead on the final TT, the general win was for Yevgeniy Gidich (King Power).

Aker - MOT brings Soren Kragh Andersen as a big favorite for the opening prologue. He already showed his excellent form in Qatar and Portugal.
Then the focus will shift to Darshana Prasad for the sprints and Takeaki Amezawa for the hilly stage and GC.

Binance is mainly focussed on Spaniard Justo Tenorio and his GC classification. They hope to survive the first 4 stages without much time loss.
His climbing support consists of David Bartl and Frederico Figueiredo among others.
| | | | | | | | | | | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | PT |

Fredrik Strand Galta and Carlsberg - Danske Bank are looking to continue their good form from Portugal, where Galta won GC.
He can count on Nairo Quintana and Jonas Gregaard to support him on the last 3 stages.
| | | | | | | | | | | Cedevita | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Bouchard | Geoffrey | FRA | 31 | 77 | 74 | 62 | 66 | | | | Buitrago | Santiago | COL | 24 | 76 | 74 | 65 | 66 | | | | Crncevic | Aleksa | BIH | 28 | 76 | 70 | 61 | 72 | | | | Croes | Jonathan | ARU | 26 | 73 | 73 | 62 | 73 | | | | Enger | Sondre Holst | NOR | 30 | 63 | 69 | 81 | 77 | | | | Groselj | Matic | SLO | 27 | 58 | 66 | 73 | 79 | | | | Howson | Damien | AUS | 31 | 59 | 65 | 64 | 80 | | | | Pogacar | Tadej | SLO | 25 | 80 | 76 | 63 | 75
Cedevita brings riders for every terrain to Tirreno-Adriatico. Howson and Groselj will be targeting the prologue.
Then it's up to Sondre Holst Enger for the sprints and Tadej Pogacar for GC. The Slovenian gets the support of Bouchard and Buitrago.
| | | | | | | | | | | cycleYorkshire | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Akhmaevi | Sulkhan | GEO | 26 | 71 | 68 | 61 | 73 | | | | Buttigieg | Aidan | MLT | 26 | 62 | 66 | 65 | 70 | | | | Hansen | Lasse Norman | DEN | 31 | 59 | 65 | 73 | 79 | | | | Morton | Lachlan | AUS | 31 | 84 | 76 | 57 | 73 | | | | Sterobo | Rasmus | DEN | 32 | 71 | 63 | 56 | 78 | | | | Williams | Stephen | GBR | 27 | 78 | 74 | 65 | 66 | | | | Zukowsky | Nickolas | CAN | 25 | 63 | 70 | 72 | 74
Lachlan Morton is one of the top candidates for the GC fight. Although he has only Stephen Williams to get through the last 3 days.
The Danish duo Hansen and Sterobo will be eyeing the prologue.
| | | | | | | | | | | EA Vesuvio | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Gunnlaugsson | Kristofer | ISL | 28 | 67 | 65 | 75 | 75 | | | | Hepburn | Michael | AUS | 32 | 64 | 66 | 66 | 79 | | | | Kirsch | Alex | LUX | 30 | 79 | 74 | 68 | 71 | | | | Lampawog | Jay | PHI | 26 | 65 | 68 | 64 | 72 | | | | Ries | Michel | LUX | 25 | 77 | 70 | 61 | 61 | | | | Tanfield | Harry | GBR | 29 | 59 | 63 | 66 | 79 | | | | Zingle | Axel | FRA | 25 | 62 | 68 | 76 | 63
EA Vesuvio also has a duo who focus on the prologue with Hepburn and Tanfield.
Apart from that, we think the team will look to be aggressive in the breakaways. As they don't have the top favorites for either terrain.
| | | | | | | | | | | ELCO - ABEA | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Agrotis | Alexandros | CYP | 25 | 73 | 70 | 65 | 73 | | | | Bester | Shaun Nick | RSA | 32 | 68 | 72 | 71 | 72 | | | | Bouglas | Georgios | GRE | 33 | 63 | 69 | 77 | 57 | | | | Farantakis | Stylianos | GRE | 28 | 59 | 66 | 81 | 79 | | | | Giannoutsos | Miltiadis | GRE | 26 | 79 | 72 | 64 | 77 | | | | Karatzios | Georgios | GRE | 33 | 57 | 70 | 62 | 58 | | | | Kortsidakis | Michail | GRE | 29 | 63 | 69 | 68 | 73 | | | | Mavrikakis | Michail | GRE | 29 | 79 | 72 | 61 | 71
Stylianos Farantakis the man to lead ELCO - ABEA in the first 3 outings. He has good memories from this race, as he won a stage last year.
After the sprints, the focus will shift to Miltiadis Giannoutsos in his (second tier) GC fight.
| | | | | | | | | | | Evonik - ELKO | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Battistella | Samuele | ITA | 25 | 73 | 73 | 67 | 72 | | | | Eenkhoorn | Pascal | NED | 26 | 78 | 73 | 64 | 75 | | | | Gavars | Eriks Toms | LAT | 26 | 75 | 74 | 67 | 72 | | | | Januskevicius | Mantas | LTU | 24 | 71 | 73 | 68 | 69 | | | | Kurianov | Stepan | RUS | 27 | 65 | 65 | 75 | 64 | | | | Ulysbayev | Dinmukhammed | KAZ | 25 | 74 | 71 | 62 | 69
Evonik - ELKO will be counting on Pascal Eenkhoorn for GC. Top-15 looks like a reasonable goal for the Dutchman.
Apart from that, I wouldn't surprised if they would join breakaways.
| | | | | | | | | | | Gazelle | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Dombrowski | Joseph | USA | 32 | 84 | 75 | 60 | 71 | | | | Karnulin | Denys | UKR | 33 | 77 | 73 | 59 | 69 | | | | Mundle | Benedikt | LIE | 32 | 59 | 65 | 59 | 55 | | | | Peters | Nans | FRA | 29 | 74 | 76 | 66 | 69 | | | | Sosnitskiy | Anatoliy | UKR | 33 | 77 | 71 | 62 | 63 | | | | Vervaeke | Louis | BEL | 30 | 76 | 73 | 60 | 70
Joe Dombrowski is one of the GC favorites for this year's edition. The first four stages will be mainly about limiting the time loss.
Gazelle has brought in Karnulin, Sosnitskiy and Vervaeke as main support.
| | | | | | | | | | | Grieg-Maersk | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Andersen | Michael Valgren | DEN | 31 | 55 | 64 | 51 | 77 | | | | Arensman | Thymen | NED | 24 | 76 | 72 | 63 | 72 | | | | Brkic | Benjamin | AUT | 27 | 74 | 74 | 67 | 74 | | | | Hulgaard | Morten | DEN | 25 | 67 | 70 | 65 | 75 | | | | Kiflay | Metkel | ERI | 32 | 63 | 68 | 66 | 77 | | | | Korsaeth | Truls Engen | NOR | 30 | 56 | 60 | 66 | 78 | | | | Larsen | Niklas | DEN | 26 | 60 | 68 | 77 | 80 | | | | Lastra | Jonathan | ESP | 30 | 74 | 75 | 69 | 62
Don't be surprised if Grieg-Maersk leads the team classification after the prologue. With Larsen, Korsaeth, Kiflay and Andersen they have four specialists.
After the prologue it would make sense if they get aggressive in the breakaway formation.
| | | | | | | | | | | ISA - Hexacta | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Andersen | Idar | NOR | 24 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 73 | | | | Bongiorno | Francesco | ITA | 33 | 78 | 74 | 57 | 67 | | | | Harrison | Sam | GBR | 31 | 62 | 67 | 78 | 72 | | | | Jurado | Cristofer Robin | PAN | 28 | 67 | 69 | 69 | 72 | | | | Martinez | Daniel Felipe | COL | 27 | 77 | 72 | 64 | 72 | | | | Osorio | Juan | COL | 28 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 71 | | | | Pinot | Thibaut | FRA | 33 | 79 | 73 | 61 | 64 | | | | Santos | Emerson | BRA | 32 | 63 | 64 | 78 | 74
Sam Harrison is one of the outsiders for the two flat stages. ISA - Hexacta looks like another team that could benefit from breakaways.
Pinot and Bongiorno look on paper more suited for a top 20 spot in GC.
| | | | | | | | | | | King Power | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Chaiyasombat | Thanakhan | THA | 24 | 76 | 72 | 66 | 70 | | | | Chamorro | Juan Ernesto | COL | 32 | 78 | 75 | 66 | 64 | | | | Chiu | Ho San | HKG | 28 | 67 | 74 | 71 | 64 | | | | Leung | Chun Wing | HKG | 29 | 57 | 64 | 69 | 82 | | | | Phodingam | Sakchai | THA | 25 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 61 | | | | Vanthourenhout | Michael | BEL | 30 | 66 | 68 | 68 | 70
King Power selected Chung Wing Leung for this race, who is another favorite for the prologue.
Phodingam and Chamorro could maybe go for a breakaway win in the mountains.
| | | | | | | | | | | Lidl Cycling | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Barguil | Warren | FRA | 32 | 81 | 75 | 64 | 70 | | | | Bettiol | Alberto | ITA | 30 | 71 | 77 | 71 | 67 | | | | Cataford | Alexandor | CAN | 30 | 72 | 70 | 60 | 79 | | | | Cort Nielsen | Magnus | DEN | 30 | 78 | 74 | 54 | 72 | | | | Prado | Ignacio Jesus | MEX | 30 | 77 | 73 | 64 | 78 | | | | Vermeersch | Gianni | BEL | 31 | 63 | 70 | 74 | 63
Lidl Cycling has brought a balanced team. First they will count on Cataford and Prado for the prologue.
After two easy stages, the team has Alberto Bettiol for the hilly stage and Warren Barguil for GC.
| | | | | | | | | | | Minions | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Barbier | Rudy | FRA | 31 | 50 | 67 | 77 | 60 | | | | Cattaneo | Mattia | ITA | 33 | 81 | 69 | 50 | 78 | | | | Kalaba | Dusan | SER | 27 | 65 | 69 | 79 | 78 | | | | Quintana | Dayer | COL | 31 | 76 | 71 | 61 | 70 | | | | Rubio | Einer Augusto | COL | 25 | 75 | 72 | 60 | 64 | | | | Voisard | Yannis | SWI | 25 | 73 | 70 | 61 | 64 | | | | Vosekalns | Andris | LAT | 31 | 78 | 75 | 67 | 62
Mattia Cattaneo is the GC leader for Minions at this Tirreno-Adriatico. A top 5 would be a major success.
Serbian Dusan Kalaba is an outsider for the two flat sprints.
| | | | | | | | | | | MOL Cycling Team | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Almeida | Joao | POR | 25 | 80 | 71 | 63 | 73 | | | | Campenaerts | Victor | BEL | 32 | 54 | 69 | 53 | 78 | | | | Chavanne | Gabriel | SWI | 31 | 58 | 64 | 76 | 82 | | | | Huertas | Jason | CRC | 25 | 63 | 68 | 73 | 74 | | | | Kennaugh | Tim | GBR | 32 | 77 | 70 | 66 | 72 | | | | Keough | Luke | USA | 32 | 60 | 62 | 79 | 80 | | | | Scotson | Callum | AUS | 27 | 56 | 63 | 66 | 78 | | | | Stash | Mamyr | RUS | 30 | 56 | 64 | 77 | 78
Just like Grieg-Maersk, MOL has a variety of options for the prologue. Chavanne and Keough look like the best options.
Joao Almeida is another GC prospect for a top 10, with the help of Tim Kennaugh.
| | | | | | | | | | | Moser - Sygic | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Hosek | Josef | CZE | 32 | 75 | 74 | 64 | 64 | | | | Kudus | Merhawi | ERI | 29 | 85 | 77 | 64 | 72 | | | | Nommela | Aksel | EST | 29 | 57 | 67 | 76 | 65 | | | | Otruba | Jakub | CZE | 25 | 75 | 74 | 63 | 70 | | | | Salazar | John | PHI | 25 | 70 | 69 | 69 | 71 | | | | Turek | Daniel | CZE | 30 | 64 | 68 | 61 | 76 | | | | | | | | 71 | 72 | 61 | 67
Moser - Sygic is all about Merhawi Kudus and not without reason.
The man from Eritrea is the top candidate for GC. Although the climbing support isn't at his level.
| | | | | | | | | | | Polar | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Christakos | Dimitrios | GRE | 24 | 75 | 70 | 61 | 73 | | | | Latour | Pierre | FRA | 30 | 81 | 75 | 65 | 74 | | | | Oldani | Stefano | ITA | 25 | 71 | 71 | 68 | 67 | | | | Postlberger | Lukas | AUT | 31 | 58 | 68 | 69 | 77 | | | | Shikai | Chen | CHN | 31 | 81 | 71 | 57 | 76 | | | | Viviani | Elia | ITA | 34 | 57 | 63 | 68 | 76
Polar has another GC first tier leader in Pierre Latour. He will be backed by the Chinese Chen Sikai.
Just like many other teams, they will be hoping to keep their GC man without time loss.
| | | | | | | | | | | Rabobank | PT |
Last name | First name | Country | Age | MO | HI | SPR | PRL | | | | Dima | Emil | ROM | 26 | 73 | 69 | 63 | 73 | | | | Formolo | Davide | ITA | 31 | 79 | 80 | 69 | 69 | | | | Hofstede | Lennard | NED | 29 | 70 | 76 | 61 | 62 | | | | Kalf | Steven | EST | 28 | 58 | 66 | 73 | 67 | | | | Meeus | Jordi | BEL | 25 | 61 | 65 | 74 | 60 | | | | Tolhoek | Antwan | NED | 29 | 75 | 75 | 58 | 64 | | | | Vader | Milan | NED | 27 | 73 | 68 | 61 | 70 | | | | Van Poppel | Danny | NED | 30 | 60 | 64 | 81 | 72
Danny Van Poppel is the Rabobank leader for the flat stages.
After these, Davide Formolo will take over in the hilly stage where he could shine. His energy stats look a bit weak for GC.

Tinkoff - La Datcha Team could grab a stage win with Yatsevich in the prologue.
They have a solid core of climbers in support of Mamykin, who has excellent energy stats to rely on.

When the prologue is finished, ZARA - Irizar has a candidate for every terrain.

Last but not least, the second PCT team in Zwift Pro Cycling. With Girmay, Gloag and Jorgenson they have a lot of talented riders lining up.
Maybe they can score in the breakaway in one of the last days with Powless, Lopez or Tejada.

The list if 80+ climbers for Pogacar to go up against is pretty scary, but I figured it will be.
Thanks for the preview, you summed up my team perfectly

Didn't I train Haig to 83?

Sending Formolo to the more mountainous race of the triple header worked quite well last year. Hopefully it will be the same this time, though this one looks a bit harder.

I hope Farantakis can find his legs here when Coquard surely couldn't so far! Otherwise this will be another (on paper decent) dissapointing race.
We have sent a very strong support team with Farantakis here so it would be very dissapointing to not see him figure close to a stagewin, preferably a stagewin on stage 2 to claim the leaders jersey would be key.
Giannoutsos and Mavrikakis are here with a free role to chase some luck

Apparently the training wasn't included in the participation file that I got. The database should be up to date.

Thanks!
In this case, I obviously expect Haig to fight for the podium. We desperately need him to deliver in any race he's attending. Otherwise relegation is quite a certain thing, I fear.

Triple clash, and yet I think this is the one race of the year where Galta and Quintana are riding together. The other two race just didn't favor either, and would let have led to goo race day allocation. The problem, of course, is that basically every PT GC guy has made the trip, because where else would they go.
A realistic goal has to be a top 10, with the though that Quintana can also finish in the top 15-20 and allow depth points to make up some of the gap to better climbers. IDK how the game is going to handle that, but that's the strategy that I think makes sense.
Thanks for the preview!

Top 10 is the realistic target here for Barguil, perhaps pushing for a top 5 with a bit of good fortune. With both Prado and Cort Nielsen here as well there's a secondary aim to try and put 3 riders in the GC top 20 and try and win the teams classification. |

Let's fight for the win, but trained Kudus will of course be hard to beat. Second or third would also be an acceptable result.
Nice touch to highlight every team in the preview

On paper, probably the best stage race for Amezawa all season to race for a GC placing, with only the prologue as a time trial. Very curious to see how he does!
Fingers crossed Kragh can keep his prologue/epilogue streak here, grabbing another stage and also a leader's jersey on the opening day. Also excited to see Johannessen and Van Poucke, as it's their first outing for us where we have PT mountains (not counting our passive PTHC Portugal affair). Would be cool to see them try to feature in a breakaway or two
Looking forward for this one! |

Lack of big TTs for Cattaneo does not give me much hope for a good GC, but we'll see where we get. Kalaba can teach our lead sprinter a thing or two.
Thanks for the preview!

Thank you for the extremely detailed and thus enjoyable preview! Much appreciated.
I did consider to bring Herklotz here, but in the end we settled on trying to pick up some minor prizes here.
Loanee Kmieliauskas should be the favorite to end day 1 in white (which might not mean much), before Kanter hopes to repeat some of our early season sprint magic a couple of times with our already successful Nieuwenhuis-Steimle train at his side.
Additionally, our second loanee THJ aims to get on the U25 podium with the help of returning Zimmermann and maxed Zwiehoff at the end of the race, with Pogi and Almeida clearly one step above but many others fighting for the final position.
The two Z's hopefully try to get into a break or two late into the race too, although gaps might not be large enough by then to facilitate the GT-style breakaways those two would like to see.

Wow, what a startlist with 15 80+ climbers There are so many of them that Tenorio, Quintana, Almeida, Shikai and Padun don't even make it to the favourite list - looking forward to this climbing festival from a completely neutral perspective
Kudus should be in a great position to win the race, but Dombrowski's strong acceleration could give him the edge in the fight for bonus seconds, which could be decisive given the low amount of TT kilometers.
Speaking of TT, I'm rooting for Gabby to take a win here, would be cool to see MOL getting some nice points out of our Theuns deal as well
Thanks for the great preview, and good luck to those participating!

We've come here with riders for almost every stage. Ovsya to try mix it up in the sprints and Mas an unlikely candidate for the more Puncheur favoured stage.
Wellens with his first opportunity to impress. Although it is a very strong field, I have to hope he can be in and amongst the Top 5 if not better.
Thank you for the comprehensive preview! Good to all teams and let's see how the race turns out

Great preview!
We're mainly hoping that Larsen can beat the main man himself, SKA, and snatch the win in the prologue. But looking at SKA recently, it will be tough.
Also hoping that Arensman can try something, but against this field my expectations are quite low.

First opportunity for Eenkhoorn to show what he can do. Hoping for a top 15 fight. The rest of the team is picked with the hope of getting into breaks.

Nice to start off the race with some points
5th for Howson is about right. Groselj just missed out on a top 10, but I'm happy with the effort from both.
Pogacar with probably his best prologue to date is already leading the U25s, not something I thought about to be honest. With some luck maybe he can wear that jersey from start to finish, but more likely someone goes in the breakaway and scores bonus seconds in the next two stages.
Speaking of the next two stages, hopefully Enger adds more to our points total.
