Cobbles time! After Portugal (Viana do Castelo) and Belgium (Oloop Het Nieuwsblad, Gent-Wevelgem), the peloton goes in the Jutland region of Denmark, for 188,5 km of cobbled roads. All the race is mostly flat, but there are some bumps here and there on the road. Nothing that should trouble the riders too much. It usually comes down to a sprint between a small group with the best cobblers in it. But first, let’s have a look at history.

Since Geraint Thomas’ fourth victory (3rd in a row) in 2018 – and the race demotion in C2, we haven’t had the same winner two times. That might change this year, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ccc.png Chatarunga is back with a new team, Crabbe-CC Chevigny.

Chatarunga will have a hard time repeating his victory: not only there are better cobblers than him, but some of them have very great support. In this regard, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sva.png Gaday probably is the best placed to take home the win: He’s one of the best on the terrain, has an excellent stamina and resistance, he’s more than able to sprint and he’s got an excellent lieutenant in the name of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sva.png Owen. He could be very hard to beat.
One of his main opponents could be pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Breen, who’s got the advantage to be one of the best on the flat, though his physical capacities might be lacking. Moreover, he’ll be accompanied by Kulppi, an excellent cobbler also.
Other outsiders are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/t3a.png Podium Ambition, whose leader might instead be Matthews, a lesser cobbler but better sprinter, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sae.png Saeco, if they can bring Trentin to the leading group, or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/stv.png Stela-Vita, who have depth and something as a double threat with Lampaert and Merlier.
Legend pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ade.png Bewley can’t be dismissed as a potential winner, though he’s not the rider he has been, and has been left quite alone by Adidas Eurocash.

And though I'll be the one posting it, the report will be brought to you by whitejersey

I remember when we used to DOMINATE this race with Geraint, back in the good ol' days of the first Podium Ambition rise. As it these days we'll need a bit of luck for Chequan/Matthews to do well, but never say never!

Our first C2 race of the year, fun to see Teggart on the list of favorites and I do think he has a decent shot at the Top 5-10 on a good day. He doesn't have much support, but hopefully Jean Eric Habimana will be with him at least for a bit.

Gaday is the favorite in my opinion, but this is wide open. Would be neat to see former Bralirwa rider Lampaert do well, too!

Damn, it's already been 4 years since Ostergaard's victory. Rooting hard for bewley here.

Thank you for the nice preview Imladrik!

Anything less than a triple win here will be disappointing Pfft

Breen for back-to-back here? I guess pure cobbles strength should be most important here, but some good flat and sprint won't hurt. And you definitely don't want to take Havik or Bewley to the line - I guess both of them are looking to improve on a rather disappointing G-W. Or PCT stealing the win with Teggart? Could be a very open race, looking forward to the report (despite missing out on this, due to the Samyn clash) Smile

Good luck to all!

Close  Tafjord are a menace on C2 cobbles! Congrats to Gaday and Strava, though, impressive win.

Very happy with 5th place for Teggart, well done! Second best C2 result we've had as a PCT team, I believe. And even if it's just outside the points, 28th is a really solid result for Habimana, too.

And thank you for the great report, WJ. Pleasure to read!

Goddamnit! Major on the same time as the winner, but can't make use of his superior sprint. 10th & 11th after the disaster of GW.

Now i'm not calling the promotion chase dead... but it's kinda feeling dead already... And i'm not sure i have another 4+ years of this in me to keep building more leader capable Caribbeans. I hate having expectations, it's not fun.

Another solid performance from Chatarunga, an active race from him and Rathe.
Gives me courage for the coming weeks Smile

Congrats to Strava and Bjartne, and thanks WJ for the report!

Congrats to Strava, Gaday showing that he's simply the most well-rounded cobbler of the division. However, that Tafjord streak of double-podiums is just insane!
Obviously both Breen and Kulppi are strong cobblers, but it's still surprising that others (especially stronger cobblers) just can't beat them! At least on the cobbles they underline their status of title favourites - great job!

Big result also for Teggart, still regretting not having the funds to get him when he was available Pfft (looking at my comments lately, I guess I was after pretty much every rider, though ^^). Very solid C2 result for UBS as well, good job by Grand & Schäppi!

Thanks to WJ for the report, and to Imladrik for the preview Smile

Wow, we're not used to podiums, yet alone this Pfft
Hopefully there are a lot more cobbles left this season Smile

Congrats to Strava with that monster fiinish and to whitejersey for the awesome reporting!

Great 4th place for Havik. Next time hopefully for the win Wink

Having no real expectations of this race, seeing 2 of our youngsters get into a break is a real treat! The end results is to be expected. Comgrats to Strava, amazing ride!
