Thank you very much to LLS for the great preview!!!!
Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne
We head to Belgium for a race for which Belgium is famous for, the cobbles! Loved by some, dreaded by others. Those who love it are here to show their strength and compete for the win. Let's see who these riders are!
History | | | | | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | How? | 2020 | Trentin | Vanspeybrouch | Vanbilsen | Sprint | 2019 | Stallaert | Summerhill | Vanbilsen | Attack |
In 2020 it came down to a reduced bunch sprint and so here is the list of riders who will be hoping it goes that way again. It's hard not to focus the attention on the 2 who have won this race in the last 2 years. Trentin (Carlsberg) will be hoping to go back to back while Stallaert (Bralirwa) can win this from any position so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a repeat of 2019.
| | | STA | COB | SPR | ACC | | Joeri | Stallaert | 76 | 81 | 79 | 76 | | Matteo | Trentin | 76 | 81 | 75 | 76 | | Ramon | Domene | 73 | 76 | 74 | 75 | | Scott | Thwaites | 74 | 76 | 78 | 76 | | Oliver | Naesen | 77 | 76 | 77 | 76 | | Bert-Jan | Lindeman | 72 | 76 | 74 | 76 | | Alexey | Tsatevich | 74 | 75 | 75 | 75 | | Alexander | Kristoff | 70 | 75 | 80 | 74 | | Alexandr | Ovsyannikov | 74 | 74 | 77 | 76 | | Tom | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 74 | 80 | 78 | | Sebastian | Lander | 77 | 73 | 79 | 77 | | Clement | Venturini | 74 | 72 | 75 | 77 | | Kris | Boeckmans | 71 | 72 | 79 | 80 | | Janis | Dakteris | 74 | 72 | 77 | 77 | | Dan | McLay | 74 | 72 | 77 | 76 | | Kristian | Sbaragli | 76 | 72 | 77 | 78 | | Thanawut | Sanikwathi | 70 | 72 | 78 | 78 |
There is an extensive selection of strong cobblers who will need marking and watching from their rivals as they will mostly be looking for attacks later in the race. Special focus here has to go on Vanbilsen (Lierse) who has finished 3rd in the last two editions of this race and will be hoping to step onto the top step of the podium this year.
| | | STA | COB | ACC | FTR | | Lukas | Spengler | 72 | 83 | 70 | 67 | | Ruben | Zepuntke | 79 | 82 | 65 | 66 | | Kenneth | Vanbilsen | 80 | 80 | 71 | 72 | | Sep | Vanmarcke | 75 | 79 | 70 | 64 | | Hampus | Anderberg | 77 | 78 | 73 | 70 | | Robert | Bush | 75 | 78 | 73 | 66 | | Frederik | Nolf | 74 | 78 | 68 | 73 | | Clenne Morvan | Moulingui | 71 | 78 | 68 | 64 | | Guillaume | Van Keirsbulck | 75 | 78 | 68 | 71 | | Tom | David | 76 | 78 | 73 | 68 | | Yves | Lampaert | 74 | 78 | 61 | 71 | | Salvatore | Puccio | 76 | 78 | 55 | 60 | | Ramon | Sinkeldam | 74 | 77 | 68 | 75 | | Olli | Kulppi | 73 | 77 | 70 | 63 | | Tim | Declerq | 73 | 77 | 67 | 78 | | Iliyan | Kolev | 73 | 77 | 67 | 71 |

Ideally, Stallaert continues his podium streak this season. Well, ideally ideally, he repeats his 2019 win, but let's not get greedy. Anything but a Top 5 would be a disappointment, the field is tough, but nothing to necessarily be afraid of (though it seems that a few strong riders that are on the startlist pic are missing in the list, like Blythe, Daniel and Vanspeybrouck).
Looking forward to the race!

Vanbilsen is slowly running out of chances to save his season. He's done well here in the past, but he also did well in other races..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

My guess is a victory for Stallaert or Vanbilsen on home soil. We are aiming for a top 10 spot. Good luck everyone!

After Bush's result at E3 I hope he can repeat that performance and manage to reach a place in the final top10. If the arrival is decided in the sprint, it will be difficult to obtain such a good result, so I hope it will be a tough race and not allow the arrival of sprinters at the front of the race

Fingers crossed we get a selective race! If so, Hampus should do well here. Hoping he can ride aggressive and be present in different moves. Waiting for a bunch sprint definitely feels like a bad approach. |

A race that has a lot of potentially good outcomes for us depending on how hard it is going to be raced Staellaert and Trentin being present is probably going to limit us to not be in contention for a win but a couple of top 10s would be lovely.
Thanks for the preview!

Hoping for a good result for Ovsya but not going to be easy in this field. I’ll be happy if we avoid a 0 pointer!

Stallaert is the man! Was worried a bit when he went after multiple attacks, but he played it perfectly and his sprint was simply good enough. We certainly benefitted from an off-day from Trentin, perhaps he was still exhausted from E3.
Cheers to GCN and Minions for working with us in the peloton. Maxime Daniel also very strong with another podium in two days. And, of course, thanks Nemo for the very nice report

Zepuntke not at the back of the group in a sprint? Wow, fifth place is definitely a lot better than the other results lately. Cheers cunego! Thanks Nemo for the report

Not the result I was hoping for, but at least it's a top 10 this time. Congrats Bralirwa and thanks for the report!

Congratz cunego59! Stallaert is performing great
Thanks Nemo for the race report! Great effort from Declerq, but no man in the front group.

Lets go GVK! After a couple of weaker results in our last two races, getting back to top scoring ways here with a solid 51 points due to Puccio continuing to do what he's supposed to do by picking up solid secondary finishes!
Obviously no one was going to beat Stallaert in a sprint but I feel like BBL will be cursing Trentin for a while for this big of an underpeformance.
Thanks for an engaging report, enjoyed the race quite a bit!

We showed ourselves but nothing gained in this race. Thanks for the report, riders full of mud represent a good classic race all in all. Gratz to cunego!

Ok result but with TVA in the lead group, had hoped for more. Anyway, at least some consistency from the cobbles squad this month but we'll need better results for sure.
Congrats to cunego and thanks for the report

Congrats cunego and thank you Nemo for the report. Wish the group could have narrowed down a bit more since it looked like Spengler was having a good day, but to see him not come in last place in a sprint is always good. Seems like he could have coordinated more of a leadout with Bohli though.

Congrats to cunego!
Strange race for us as Lander looked very strong, but unfortunately stayed behind with Trentin, and I guess Trentin was just too tired from the last few recent efforts? Very surprising that he was so weak in what's an easier race on paper. Didn't expect us to miss that final split entirely, but once that happened the race was over. Sucks because Lander might have gotten a really good placing if he changed strategy earlier.
So, disappointed to do so poorly here, obviously. Looking at the startlist I figured we should at least be near the front, and if it came to a sprint, Lander would be as good an option as anyone, with Trentin also still in the mix. Outside the top 15 is not the kind of result I would have expected. Nevertheless, some guys who have deserved a good cobbles result got theirs here, and I just won E3, so I guess it's only fair. Stings though for every great performance to be matched by a massive underperformance lately
Thanks for the report Nemo! Apologies for not commenting earlier on the preview. For some reason I forgot I was in this and thought it was a CT race.

Another solid performance from Hampus. Happy to see him strong and even attacking for the win. Well done to see him do good in the sprint too. 8th doesn’t bring us that mant points, but his racing was encouraging. Next up for him is the PTHC cobbles race, where I’m really intrigued to see if he can perform on a similar level to what he has done in the PCT cobbles races.
Congratulations, cunego! Cool to see a marquee signing deliver this well for you |

Great race! Huge performance by Stallaert and lovely finish. This time no full rewards for the agressors, but I love the cobbles AI this year. Cool report.
