With Paris-Roubaix postponed, everything comes down to this race again. The second monument of the year and often a very entertaining one. Last year had all the drama with unexpected crashes and a photo finish, what will 2021 bring?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Looking forward to this as always. It's going to be very interesting how all the racing dynamics will pan out. Wout and MvP are massive targets, QST has been both successful and fooled in the E3 and G-W, Trek is looking better than ever, Sagan could be in with a chance with his form in rising at every passing event, AG2R hungry but still with empty bellies, the ever threatning presence of Kristoff and even Ineos having their share of success. Plus all the wildcards like Garcia Cortina or Benoot which you can never discount.
I'll be rooting for Imanol Erviti obviously

My heart would be delighted if GVA would reach top spot finally in this beautiful race.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Some scary news two days before the start. After Gent-Wevelgem, Zdenek Stybar was not feeling well and was later diagnosed with heart problems. He had urgent surgery earlier this week but is of course out for the race sunday. He was one of my favourites for sure this year, but let's just hopes he fully recovers now.

Somebody that looked very strong to me is Anthony Turgis. He won't win, but I can see him at the podium if he flies under the radar. Also it's shambolic that there is no wildcard for UnoX after they've ridden like a Top10 classics team all season long.

Always scary to read such things. Luckily it seems to have been a "minor" problem.
Like Croatia said, Turgis has been doing well in these races since DDV 2019 already (or even earlier), so he could be high up. Even though Stybar is out I'm still going with the QS card. Really hoping Lampaert can get a big fish, but it's not like I would be disappointed if somebody else wins. Just no Bettiol again, that was an anti-climax

Bettiol what? he was the most deserved winner of last years
seriously, he was in the big day of his life, but he won like the best Cancellara

Just meant for me personally it was not my preferred rider, not trying to say he didn't deserve it

So, only one vote for MvP and none for Ala?. That's a elegant surprise.
Looking forward to next handful of hours.

A cold day in Flanders, but no rain and little wind. Already some action resulting in a double disqualification.

A lot testosterone flying early in the morning for those two. Serves them right. Given current policies on rider safety they were always going to meet the boot

Astana found a way to at least become a protagonist of this race. |

And Schär taken out as well for throwing away his empty bottle in the wrong zone. Feels really unfair for him, they just need to make an example of this rudiculous new rule in the first big race.
Edit: for clarification, he threw it gently to a bunch of spectators near the road, so not damaging to nature or anything. If anything, he made a kid really happy.

The poor guy knew he would be fucked the moment he realized what he had done. I understand the need to reduce littering but this is waaay too exaggerated.
Yesterday Kyle Murphy from Rally Cycling was also disqualified from GP Miguel Indurain for the same reasons. |
