Coppa Placci
Welcome to San Marino for the Coppa Placci! This is only the third edition of the San Marino hilly classic, and neither of the two former winners (Hardy and Rocchetti) have made it back, so whoever wins, it’ll be his first time! Anything can happen in a one-day race, but 22 teams and 170 riders present, with different teams having a favourite, should be enough to reel the break of the day back in. Let’s have a look at the best riders most suited for this kind of terrain.
| MTN | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Kelderman | 71 | 82 | 80 | 75 | 67 | 72 | Zaini | 66 | 80 | 74 | 65 | 65 | 70 | Moscon | 73 | 79 | 76 | 77 | 59 | 73 | Edmondson | 69 | 79 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 76 | Juul-Jensen | 70 | 78 | 76 | 74 | 66 | 79 | Eiking | 69 | 78 | 78 | 74 | 68 | 76 | Barbin | 68 | 78 | 75 | 73 | 71 | 76 | Quevedo | 71 | 78 | 72 | 72 | 65 | 75 | Palini | 70 | 78 | 75 | 68 | 68 | 74 | Mehr-Wenige | 66 | 78 | 74 | 69 | 66 | 67 | Watson | 65 | 78 | 76 | 72 | 62 | 72 | Flügel | 69 | 78 | 74 | 62 | 65 | 69 | Hoelgaard | 74 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 68 | 74 | Tsatevich | 62 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 75 | Felline | 66 | 77 | 75 | 73 | 74 | 78 | Pernsteiner | 75 | 77 | 73 | 71 | 61 | 72 | Smirnovs | 68 | 77 | 74 | 69 | 72 | 78 | Zordan | 73 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 65 | 74 | Caruso | 68 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 69 | 76 | Dieteren | 70 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 63 | 66 | Mutsumine | 69 | 77 | 73 | 70 | 63 | 71 | Mudarra | 68 | 77 | 74 | 70 | 64 | 68 | Costa | 68 | 77 | 68 | 67 | 66 | 67 | Jung | 67 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 63 | 71 | Afonso | 66 | 77 | 75 | 73 | 57 | 70 | Roux | 64 | 77 | 77 | 70 | 56 | 74 | Pellaud | 65 | 77 | 74 | 68 | 65 | 70 | Frankiny | 78 | 76 | 72 | 75 | 61 | 75 | Seibeb | 75 | 76 | 70 | 69 | 61 | 73 | Fabbro | 78 | 75 | 71 | 72 | 61 | 73 | Destribois | 76 | 75 | 68 | 69 | 61 | 75 | Aasvold | 76 | 75 | 71 | 70 | 65 | 72 | Mezgec | 61 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 79 | 77 |
One big favourite, just like in any other C2HC and C2 race he participates in this year: Zordan. Just kidding of course, the Guave rider should be happy if he scores some points tomorrow. The big favourite is once again Kelderman. His three biggest rivals in San Marino could then be Zaini, Moscon and Edmondson. Centovalli – Fiat actually secured 4 top-20 places here last year, but didn’t manage to get anyone in the top-10. This time, they’ll be aiming for the top-10 with two riders, as Pernsteiner could definitely get in there as well.
Many others are aiming for the top-5 and top-10 spots though, with the most interesting names to be able to accomplish this probably Juul-Jensen, Eiking, Barbin, Quevedo, Palini, Mehr-Wenige, Watson and Flügel. Three riders from Gjensidige, which is also impressive.
There are no flat roads tomorrow, which could prove to be in the advantage of hybrids like Frankiny, Seibeb, Fabbro, Destribois and Aasvold. One odd name on the startlist is sprinter Mezgec. If for some reason the pack stays together until the end, then the Slovenian from Trans Cycling Team should be the favourite to win it in the sprint. That seems very unlikely though, but as Bob Marley once said: “You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.”
The only thing left for me today is to share the startlist with you, the only thing left for the riders is to win the Coppa Placci!

Second goal race of the year! The first one went very well, with Moscon getting a 2nd place in Laigueglia - and it's absolutely possible he does the same here. We obviously bring all our good puncheurs - and as mentioned in the preview, Pernsteiner might even get a Top 10 on his own. But yeah, big fav is again Wilco...
Let's just hope the breakaway doesn't take it this time, then the Top 10 goal should be pretty safe. And let's see what the 7 PCT teams can do here - I guess they chose a good race...
Thanks for the preview, Nemo, and good luck to everyone!

I decided to pick one C2 hilly classic this year and I'm glad it didn't have to be this one
Go Zordan!! Prove the doubters wrong!

Uphill finish means more expectations from Wilco. He won Izola, which I wasn't expecting, so I'm ready for a low Top 10 result here
Thanks for the preview Nemo

Vichot is our hope, here. He performed well when we were in CT a couple of years ago, but then again that was a different game. Low expectations, but hoping we can get in the points at least

I really hope that Barbin will have another good day but I have a feeling that it will similar to GP Yekaterinburg.
Luka Mezgec said that he can be in a team as he will be on a vacation there. We only hope that he won't be on vacation from the start lane but from the bottom of the first downhill.
What do you think will he be only 30min behind the winner or 1hour?

JJ has been quite good this season so far. Consistent, attentive and aggressive. I'd like to see more of that from him here. We don't have the strongest team backing him, but I don't think we'll have to control the race anyway.
Fabbro had extra race days and these fit. As long as he doesn't screw with JJ, he can do whatever. Best case, he is an able domestique.
Thanks for the preview!

Looking at the start list, this could have been a race where Ben Nasser or even Ndaysienga could have scored some points, but hilly races weren't a focus in our race planning and rightfully so. Good luck to everyone trying to stop Kelderman here

Frankiny ,might have a shot if it's raced hard, and that's kinda what we were hoping for/ expecting when choosing our lineup, just got to hope teh game agrees with me about it and makes him the team leader.

11th for Aasvold isn't all that bad - I'll take it. Wildauer has really impressed today and he may very well receive professional contract with his 38th place. Sure, it doesn't give points, but for a stagiare is great result.
Nemolito, the joke doesn't work (you know what I'm talking about ). Nice report though

Barbin one again completely disappointed and repeated performance from GP Yekaterinburg.
I'm a bit shocked that Luka Mezgec was 120 place as a sprinter I thought he would be definitely in the last place.
overall disappointing performance from Barbin and Venter on who did we count special Barbin in this race.

Glad to see Eiking forcing the action at least. 7 places below our goal... Oh well.

Fantastic victory for Moscon. Huge congrats Fabianski!
Quevedo also with a bit of an upset, overtaking Kelderman who might still be okay with a third place eventhough a win always has to be the target.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

A fun race to follow with the MON stat certainly playing a factor.
Moscon gets the big win after just missing out on a couple of occasions
