Is anyone else getting these ads? I have also been having issues where after browsing the site, I get a 400 Bad Request error saying "Request Header Or Cookie Too Large".

Yup, I get those, too. And the Bad Request error as well. Here's a solution for that, courtesy of Fabianski in the MG Skype group:
"Had that error as well. Clearing cookies indeed works, but I don't really like clearing them all, and do so regularly, so I found another solution:
I installed the EditThisCookie (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/editthiscookie/fngmhnnpilhplaeedifhccceomclgfbg?hl=de) extension in Chrome. You can then click on the Plugin symbol when you're on Daily and block some cookies. The culprit actually is the "fc" cookie, which grows too big after some time (no idea where it comes from, or what it does). With the plugin, you can simply block that cookie, and you won't have those issues again (fingers crossed, at least worked until now)
Of course, blocking all cookies on Daily is another option, but not one I wanted to go for "

I get them as well! First thought it was something new installed on my computer but then I got the links when going online on PCMdaily with my Phone when at work as well... |

To be honest I find the ads quite annoying. They give of trashy vibes and having them appear every time a new page is opened is kind of overkill.
For years there have been no real improvements to the site, the loading times are often terrible and now I have to click away cheap ads each time I load a page. I hope something will be done about them. |

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the ads much if we were getting back something for them, but we're not. The site is always getting slower and now cookies are broken. Meanwhile we're still missing features that were present before the update 4-5 years ago.
At the same time I doubt the admins can do anything. It is the site owner's call, and he hasn't been around here in many years. Well, he was online last night, but he hasn't posted in years.

No-one wants to comment on the two Ads rammed into the middle of front page news articles as well? (btw this applies if you scroll back through the news archive)
I'd say more but my last comment here was deleted for talking about [redacted]
Nothing against Daily needing ads to stay online but now they are quire literally blocking and distorting the actual content (depending on your resolution/zoom settings)

I'd agree with what everyone else is saying. I'm all for having ads, as I know thats what keeps the site going, but the 'new" ones are quite off-putting and also obstruct actual content.

The cookie error could be something pretty big. I thought something was wrong with the site for 2 days. This could make someone simply just leave or quit trying because they think something is wrong or that it got taken down...

Agreed. We're already low on new members and activity. When us established members get these errors or see intrusive ads, we will try to fix them or just deal with it. But new members are likely to see this situation and just go somewhere else. That is a big issue imo.

Well, I guess not even all of the more active users know how to work around the cookie bug, so that's really a major issue for the site!
However, I just saw that the infolinks scripts are (currently?) gone from the site, and with them quite a lot of cookies - let's hope it's definitely fixed now!

I have to say that after two days of this annoying advert i'd had enough so i sent an e-mail to Infolinks to complain. Amazingly i had a reply in a couple of hours.
Here it is :
[img]Hello,
Thank you for contacting us. If you are seeing Infolinks ads on a website that you have visited, it is because the site's owner/administrator has inserted the ads on the site. Websites insert ads in order to monetize their site traffic. We do not have any way to target your computer. Each person who visits the site where you are seeing the Infolinks ads is shown similar ads.
Each Infolinks ad has a small question mark on either the bubble or the banner. To turn off Infolinks you can click on the question mark. The click will direct you to the 'Learn more about Infolinks' page; inside this page you can choose to opt out and disable Infolinks ads from their browser.
You may also want to consider adding an AdBlock extension to your web browser.
Best regards,
Infolinks Support Team[/img]
Once you do what they ask reboot your computer for it to take affect, no problem since. |
