Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy
We travel to Thailand for this PTHC flat classic, with a field featuring some of the top sprinters from both the PT and PCT. Previously this was only a C1 race, but one of the former winners has still made the trip, 2017 winner Damion Drapac. His chances of a repeat look slim however, with a sprint field headlined by Swift, Coquard and Degenkolb - and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
The Sprinters

A number of strongmen are also present on the startlist here. Expect them to try and make the race hard for the sprinters, and to animate the race in the closing stages.

Judging by the startlist I'll settle for being involved in the sprint and maybe snagging a top 20 if we're lucky.

Would be nice if Boeckmans could push close to top 10, but this startlist is scary.

Not often Ahlstrand is outside top 5 favorites...Well I really hope he can take a top 5 anyway ´cause we have not scored much lately... |

If Drapac was team leader I'd have some confidence, but in Vantomme I have none anymore. No chance of a 2017 repeat

On of those PTHC races that we're kind of forced into doing with absolutely no chance of any success. Appo won't do anything, and honestly, he shouldn't do anything in this deep a field.
Thanks for the preview!

Always good when you see the result before the preview
Damn weird race given the profile, i assume high winds? On the podium again for Ewan and Supa-Nova continues to be impressive, and even Julian got himself into the Top25 because he made the right split.
Less said about Ricki, as is usually the case, the better.

It was either post it now or risk not posting it today, so I thought I'd post it early
Not sure about the winds, certainly not as high as I've seen on some stages with no splits (15-20 if I remember right). Seemed more like Iberia just set such a high pace throughout that riders started to drop, although there was definitely an element of randomness considering some of the high Flat riders dropped early. |

Thank you for the report, jph27!
Chaotic end to the race there, and luckily we go away from it with something. Had hoped for a podium from Swift here pre-season, but seeing how his season has been, 4th must be considered a decent result, especially with Oss and Yzeiraj also being able to pick some minor points. Yzeiraj is on a roll this summer, first the Tour where he showed himself racing aggressive, and now a top 15 here. That's very nice!
Degenkolb winning is good to see, as he shows why he was considered the best sprinter of the game this transfer season and the previous season. Congratulations! |

Good to see so many riders making the selection, but kind of disappointed oh how it played out for Grosu in the end.

Terrible - more of this and Kraftwerk could be entering the relegation zone.

At least you can get fewer than zero points.
Splits didn't work out for us, but at least it was some excitement.
Thanks for the report!

Our run of bad results continues with this outing in Asia. Degenkolb is a much deserving winner, especially with the way the season has played out. Congrats to Iberia!
Thanks for yet another report jph!
