Brexit, Brexit, Brexit!
Britain’s decision to leave the European Union has shaken the confidence of many economies and countries but none more so than Ireland.
Its traditional economic role as feeding Britain is less noticeable these days but still a source of much of the country’s wealth. Glanbia Foods which emerged from the dairy industry in the dark days of the 1960s is typical of that wealth. Now with turnover in the billions Glanbia seemed unstoppable.
But Brexit demands new thinking. The company has decided on a deliberate and public campaign of diversification and has targeted the United States as an alternative to Britain as a market.
Enter Glanbia Foods Cycling Project, a Continental Cycling Team aimed at raising the profile of Glanbia as a totemic Irish brand and in the USA and indeed across the world.
The team has modest expectations but commercial reality demands a return in year one.
Team Chief Dex MacC is known only nationally as much as a business wheeler and dealer as he is as a cycling man.
He has indicated that a major interview with “Irish Cycling” will be coming soon. Irish sports media have been alerted to a launch of a Team Jersey in the coming days....

PRESS RELEASE- GLANBIA FOODS CYCLING PROJECT
Glanbia Foods Cycling Project are excited to announce the addition of Aer Lingus as secondary sponsors. The airline said it was excited to maximise to get in "at ground level" before Glanbia "took off"
It said it hoped for "little turbulence" and a "pleasant journey"
Media summary:
Business commentators were quick to see the move by Aer Lingus as evidence of a renewed focus on North America and the Antipodes as key markets. Interestingly there have been rumours of Aer Lingus seeking direct flights from South America to Dublin as an alternative to London for those wihsing to land in the EU post Brexit.
These priorities are likely to give rise to interesting synergies between sport and business interests reflected in the new team's calendar and goala |

POLITICAL SCANDAL HITS NEW IRISH CYCLING TEAM:
New US/Irish cycling team Glanbia Foods Cycling Project has become embroiled in political controversy. The team, which is seeking to establish itself as a commercial tool to expand the influence of Glanbia in the USA and the rest of the English speaking world, has become the focus of much political interest after it emerged that much of its €1m plus funding is actually coming from the Irish Government's "Brexit Fund".
The fund is meant to help businesses dealing with the impact of Brexit allowing them to diversify or reskill. Opposition politicians have called the use of the fund for a “useless third rate vanity project” a waste of taxpayer’s money.
The team looks set to brazen out the controversy but the increased public focus is sure to add pressure on the fledgling outfit to achieve success and to achieve it quickly. |

The clear focus is on Irish and American Riders but the manager has let it known that any riders from any English languge country or South America would be considered |

New Irish cycling outfit Glanbia Foods are facing serious questions tonight after a disastrous gaffe at the launch of the team.
Journalists awaiting the presentation by boss Dex MacC were treated to a juicy scandal after the new Continental Team boss left his mic on backstage before the presentation.
Cycling Ireland now brings you the full unedited comments unknowingly broadcast to the waiting press:
Dex MacC: “Ok, everybody just play it cool. Nobody say anything and they won’t notice, journalists are idiots:
His PA: “But Boss we have to admit it we can’t get any with this”
Dex Mac C: “Quiet Larry- this is all your fault. What type of idiot makes that type of mistake?”
Larry: “But, but, but…”
Dex MacC: “Damn it Larry just play it cool and If I hear try to blame the sexy intern one more time you’re fired”.

The team consists of twenty riders, Twenty, Two Zero, Vingt, Zwanzig, dwacet, vinti, fiche, riders.
The focus is on Stage Races and Time Trials.
The team is Irish with an American accent and a little bit of Ozzie and Kiwi thrown it.
Our ambition is to find our feet, not break any more rules, get some points on the board and learn something about what it takes to be a part of this great competition." |
