Okey so tomorrow it is starting. Its high time to begin some discussion. Again, with no Velogames this year for TDF I hope that we can be more active here.
What are your predictions?
Here are mine:
1) Richie Porte will finish TDF
2) Nairo will be on the podium
3) Team Ineos will not win the Tour
4) Some of the GC guy will crash out during 1st week
5) Dylan Groenewegen will win tomorrow sprint
6) Sagan will win 7th green jersey
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

- Geraint Thomas will not finish inside the Top 10
- Emanuel Buchmann will
- At least one French rider will be on the podium
- No single rider will win more than two stages
- At least one rider who started the Tour not as their team captain will finish in the Top 10 (Bernal doesn't count, neither does Quintana/Landa)
I was thinking about starting stage threads each day (or I guess the evening before), but maybe this thread is sufficient for the activity here?

Every year I wish the Tour would be a bit more exciting, not in complete control by Sky/Ineos. But every year so far it's been the same story and despite Froome's absence I'm afraid nothing will change. Heck, even if Thomas and Bernal crash out of the race I wouldn't bet against a Sky rider winning...

I still think stage threads work for most non sprint or TT stages but maybe that’s just thinking of the last ones a couple of years ago. Certainly I believe that week threads will be at least needed but who knows
I’m lucky enough to be in Brussels right now and about to go catch the metro to the west to be near km 0 this morning. My first live professional race and I could barely have got a better one! The atmosphere is brilliant here, all week streets and shops have been bustling and it’s been awesome

For the first time I understand that it's actually easier to have TDF stages in the morning rather than the afternoon. I'll be missing the first couple this year.

Fuglsang will finish outside the top 10.
A dane will get a stagewin
Bernal will win the race
Alaphilippe will get to wear yellow before he claims atleast 2 stages and the KOM
Barguil will win a stage
Herrada of Cofidis will be the revelation of the race.

GVA does his standard yellow early plus mountain breaks to keep it longer but loses it on La Planche despite time gains the day before
Fuglsang-A. Yates-Pinot: One crashes or loses time in the first week but gets in lots of breaks and wins a stage later, one cracks in the third week, and one finished on the podium
Bardet attacks the Iseran
Sagan wins one stage and green, EBH on the points podium
Herrada in multiple break stage fights
Laporte wins a late sprint stage
Nibali decides he can’t be bothered doing Gc after a couple of time gaps and so loses time for stage win fights (getting none)
All time great mountain break and KOM fights
Mollema or Woods top 10 via breaks

I guess we can wait and see how we do when Planche des belles filles comes around
Hope you're having a good time, I was in Düsseldorf two years ago, great experience!
So Greg van Avermaet is in the first break of the race, alongside Mads Würtz (Katusha), Natnael Berhane (Cofidis) and Xandro Meurisse (Wanty). Kinda nice to have a bigger name up front this early.
I think this is the boldest of bold predictions I've read anywhere so far
