Rheden GP
We're off for another classic! And once again we're in the Netherlands for the Rheden Grand Prix. It's hard to classify this race looking on paper, obviously there are cobbles but not hard enough to guarantee tehe best cobbler winning; in the first three editions, at least the first 25 riders finished within the same time. Therefore we need a word for this... Let's call it a race for cobbly sprinters for now then?
Anyway, there's 185 kilometers on a semi-cobbled profile. There's also a few hills despite being a Dutch race. Last year it was won by Sam Bewley, who was 35 seconds ahead of a large group. He had to share the podium with Saber and Blythe, who both are here once again.
| FL | HIL | COB | SP | ACC | | FL | HIL | COB | SP | ACC | Blythe | 76 | 66 | 82 | 76 | 73 | Albert | 75 | 69 | 78 | 63 | 68 | Vanspeybrouck | 76 | 71 | 82 | 67 | 69 | Lampaert | 75 | 66 | 78 | 60 | 61 | Zepuntke | 72 | 69 | 81 | 72 | 64 | Taillefour | 77 | 57 | 78 | 54 | 55 | Vanmarcke | 76 | 66 | 80 | 70 | 72 | Bolivar | 73 | 66 | 77 | 64 | 69 | Nolf | 74 | 66 | 80 | 63 | 71 | Chatarunga | 72 | 67 | 77 | 70 | 68 | Fenn | 72 | 61 | 79 | 70 | 69 | Sinkeldam | 74 | 75 | 77 | 68 | 68 | Kristoff | 75 | 68 | 78 | 83 | 79 | Insausti | 70 | 64 | 77 | 57 | 66 | Bush | 74 | 62 | 78 | 71 | 73 | Kosic | 72 | 66 | 77 | 59 | 64 | David | 74 | 75 | 78 | 70 | 73 | Saber | 75 | 68 | 76 | 81 | 79 | Gerts | 77 | 76 | 78 | 72 | 70 | Thwaites | 73 | 65 | 76 | 78 | 76 |
The list of favourites is an intersting one for sure. And one look at the calendar answers why: Since this race clashes with the Tour of The Battenkill, many of the best cobblers in the world aren't here! This doesn't mean this race won't be important though, as this means there's a lot of points up for grabs for PCT riders, who suddenly see themselves as a favourite.
Two riders seem to jump out when looking at the favourites, depending on how this race will unfold: Blythe and Kristoff. Blythe is the best cobbler in the field and also has the best finishing potential of them. Kristoff from the PT isn't the best cobbler, but in case of a slightly slower race, he is the one and only favourite to win a sprint.
The other cobblers who may seem themselves as having a shot at winning are Vanspeybrouck, who has his puncheur ability as his most unqiue ability, Zepuntke and Vanmarcke. All of them probably need some sort of an attack to beat the top two, though.
“cobbly sprinters” are the likes of Saber (second last year) and Thwaites, who may have to work for Fenn. Their teams will probably try to slow the race down as much as possible. Bush, David and Gerts, the latter two great pncheurs, have some finishing ability too and will be looking to surprise.
After that some riders who will probably have to help out their leader: Nolf, Albert, Sinkeldam, Lampaert and Taillefour. Their task will probably be to score the team some depth points.
Also a shoutout to two riders who barely missed out on being in this list: Rowe and Nepomnyachsniy. Both have top 10-potential in case of a sprint.

Not participating in this one, but I see a lot of non-paticipants in Battenkill. Probably still gonna face Baugnies and the top PT riders though, but this helps!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

GVK's race days were invested into other races so some breakaway action is all we can hope for.

Last season Bewley won ahead of a relatively big group (25 riders or so) who sprinted for leftovers.
My only hope is, that something similar will happen again as I have Sasha Weber as my leader here, but I suspect his stats aren't strong enough to survive the front group. He and Jocelyn Bar are my only hopes for something. Which seems like a stretch.

Ive decided to basically send everything i have to support greg in the other part of the double header. So its up to Horton to lead us here with the ridiculous hope of seeing him survive in a very large peleton. With a yellow/orange rating it might be possible and he has done that in one of the past editions iirc
Id like to see Kristoff win this tbh

Hoping Gerts will be able to repeat last year's performance. Lampaert looking like he might be able to get something out of this race as well.

The clash means that this is a 'weaker' start-list than might have been envisaged. Of course 'weaker' is a relative term!
As for a number of similar races this season, is a coin-toss whether WCC will benefit from good results for our sub-top rated leaders like Bush and Bolivar, with Harrison if ends up a negative race with a big bunch finish, or instead end up with a zero-pointer! Both scenarios have happened this season when I expected competent performances, so fingers crossed for a good outing at this race.
Whatever the case, should be a good fight at the point-end between the pure cobblers trying to break things up and those with a sprint who along with their teams want to keep things calm.
Look forward to the report.

We'll see. Zepuntke doesn't have the best sprint and doesn't have the best attack, so I'm not hoping on a very big group at the end.

Shame we're not in this band. Teunissen could've done very well here in his home cobble race.

And Tobyn Fn Horton pulls through and delivers a 13th place. What a result by the man. Outstanding result by one of my more questionable signings and it kinda justifies his contract for this result alone. Love it

The racing was aweful. Ninth is a decent result for Zepuntke in a large sprint, and we got some depth points.
Thanks for the report Vien, and congrats Aquarius!

Weber that was beautyful! Exactly what I hoped for when deciding to send him here rather than helping Daniel in Battenkill.
Not sure it gives a lot in terms of points, but top 10 is really good!

LOOOOOOL
We have just won a cobbled PTHC classic. Unbelievable. First career win for Sep, who has done an incredible season, and just when he started to fade in the summer/autumn part of it, wow, he does this This could be the result that leads us to a promotion spot, so totally worth choosing this band and going with signing a cheap cobbler for it. Amazing
Regarding the race, yeah, that was really crappy. I reported it last season and while it wasn't really eventfull, it had its moment with a huge Bewley attack, a counter attack by ¿Burghardt? and then Bewley attacking in the final cobbled section when he looked done. Probably a change of route will be needed

I was so excited that we would maybe get our win goal complete somehow... then even the sprint was crappy after an already howling lay awful race. Naturally, Repsol won
