Stages 5 and 6, while Tsmoha raced the stage and made the screenshots, the report is written by me
Big mountain stage in Romandie, between Yverdon-les-Bains and Chaux-des-Fonds with 6 big climbs in just 183 kms. After yesterday's surprising win of Robert Kiserlovski in La Dent, the Croatian rider leads GC, and given his great climbing skills, he should be considered as the top favourite to get the GC win
From the very first kms, a few riders decide to attack
Shikai (21th GC, 4'47)
Campero
Padun
Contador (KoM Leader, 37 pts)
Nazaret (31th GC, 6'57)
Cieslik
As KoM leader, Contador wouldn't waste the chance to get easy points in the first climb of the day, taking 10 more points
Before the second climb, three more riders would join the breakaway
Manfredi
Lindau (2nd KoM, 25 points)
Oste-Macdonald (4th, 18 points)
Contador would continue to gain points in the next two climbs, though in the first one he was beaten by Cieslik and Oste-Macdonald. But with Lindau getting dropped of the breakaway, his KoM win was almost secured now, as the Spaniard was leading with 63 points, 31 ahead of Oste-Macdonald and 34 ahead of Lindau
Shikai and Nazaret drop the rest of the breakaway in the fourth climb of the day, Chaumont, looking to get a gap in order to fight for the stage win. At the top of this climb, their gap to the bunch would be 9 minutes, a really dangerous gap for the GC favourites, as Shikai is less than 5 minutes behind race leader in GC
With 66 kms to go, only 23 riders remain in the bunch, where Andorra has two riders next to Kiserlovski. It's going to be a tough day for the Croatian, probably having to go after every attack while also having a dangerous breakaway 9 minutes ahead
Hirschlein, Kiserlovski, Warbasse
Meintjes, Kennaugh, Tvetcov
Malacarne, Roglic, De Clercq
Choi
Kwiatkowski
Penasa
Roche
De La Cruz
Nepomyanschiy, Scarponi
Rojas Villegas, Teuns, Hoelgaard, Costagli
Squire, Stetina
Borisavljevic
Manfredi got to the leading duo, but as soon as they were getting close to the top of Chasseral, the only Cat.1 climb of the stage, Shikai accelerated and dropped both Manfredi and Nazaret
Roglic starts the show in the bunch, attacking and getting away with Penasa, while Kwiatkowski tries to follow aswell. Warbasse's work has reduced the gap to Shikai to 6 minutes
Roglic is climbing really fast, and not only has dropped Penasa, but also reached to Contador. Kwiatkowski and Kiserlovski got away from the bunch too, and are about to catch Penasa, while Meintjes is a few seconds behind
Here we see the gaps at the top of Chasseral, with Roglic miles ahead of everyone else. Almost 2 minutes over Kwiatkowski and already 3 over race leader Kiserlovski
Meintjes and Kiserlovski caught up to Penasa at the end of the descent, while they are also closing on Kwiatkowski, as he's now only 40 seconds ahead of them. Roglic is still 3 seconds down the road
Not much to comment of the climb of Vue des Alpes, as Shikai keeps having that 1-minute gap over Nazaret at the top of the climb. The current gaps would put Shikai on the GC podium, as Roglic is getting closer to him and will deny him the chance of getting the race lead
Roglic reaches the summit of Vue des Alpes, and now it's just downhill to the finish in Chaux-des-Fonds for the Slovenian, who is set to become the new race leader
Kiserlovski's group finally got to Kwiatkowski, with Penasa, Meintjes and Campero there too. Anyway, there are 3'30 behind Roglic, and 5'40 behind Shikai. So also Nazaret could overtake almost all this group in GC too
But now it's time of celebration for Chen Shikai, as the Chinese rider gets the win in Chaux-des-Fonds!
Second place for Nazaret, losing 1'22 at the end to Shikai. The Brazilian is going to make a huge jump in GC too with this performance
+ 2'10 for Roglic, third on the finish. Later we will confirm it, but it's going to be really close between him and Shikai for the race lead
Manfredi finishes fourth, 4'02 behind Shikai, but now comes the leader's group, with Kwiatkowski winning the sprint for fifth place in the stage. They end up losing 5'17 to the stage winner (3'07 to Roglic)
Nepomnyaschniy completes the Top10 of the stage, 7'22 behind Shikai
+ 7'52 Hoelgaard, Teuns, Choi
+ 8'58 Squire, Borisavljevic, Warbasse, Contador
+ 10'53 Roche, Tvetcov
And Primoz Roglic is the new race leader! An extremely close decision, as Chen Shikai is sitting just 2 seconds! behind the Slovenian before the final TT
Kiserlovski goes down to third place, 1'02 behind Roglic, followed by Kwiatkowski, Meintjes, Nazaret, Penasa, Nepomnyaschniy, Choi and Teuns
Several riders couldn't make it into the control time, and won't be able to start tomorrow's timetrial
