Betonexpressz GP
The CT circus is heading for Hungary, where the Betonexpressz GP goes into it's 3rd edition. After being held as a C1 event last season, the race is back to it's C2 status this year. The previous race winners are Andreas Stauff (2016), who won the first edition ahead of Caleb Ewan and Simon Clarke, as well as Matthew Goss (2017), who won ahead of Dan Holloway and Óscar Guerao last year.
The 211km long flat classic (starting and finishing in Keszthely) comes with a partly undulating route, that may hurt some less strong "climbers" amongst the sprinters. No too challenging climbs in the finishing circuit, but no pan-flat parcours either.
The Startlist
The Favorites | Favorites | HI | ST | SP | AC | Outsiders | HI | ST | SP | AC | Guarnieri | 66 | 77 | 82 | 81 | Liepins | 66 | 73 | 78 | 79 | Vanoverschelde | 62 | 74 | 80 | 75 | King | 65 | 73 | 78 | 73 | Keukeleire | 70 | 73 | 80 | 79 | Aregger | 71 | 72 | 78 | 77 | Salleh | 59 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Kreder | 70 | 72 | 78 | 80 | Manninen | 66 | 71 | 80 | 80 | Krasnov | 63 | 72 | 78 | 77 | Coutinho | 65 | 75 | 79 | 80 | Keough | 64 | 71 | 78 | 75 | Matthews | 64 | 72 | 79 | 79 | Angarita | 62 | 71 | 78 | 77 | Modolo | 73 | 75 | 78 | 81 | Manan | 60 | 71 | 78 | 78 | Wippert | 67 | 75 | 78 | 82 | Haussler | 68 | 69 | 78 | 73 | Tewelde | 64 | 75 | 78 | 77 | Jørgensen | 59 | 64 | 78 | 73 | Brus | 64 | 74 | 78 | 78 | Haddi | 65 | 75 | 77 | 77 | Bogdanovics | 62 | 74 | 78 | 77 | Habtom | 61 | 75 | 77 | 78 | Kruopis | 70 | 73 | 78 | 77 | McLay | 67 | 74 | 77 | 76 |
No Stauff or Goss at the start (for obvious reasons) and so it's time for a third name on the honour roll: Guarnieri certainly as the guy, who simply has the biggest pressure to write his name onto the list. A strong roleur, who comes with the best stamina and a superior sprint as well. As for all flat races he enters against this CT competition, there can only be the win goal for him.
Keukeleire may be considered the most dangerous contender, since he handles hills and speedbumps pretty good. Just like Modolo, who should clearly aim for at least a Top-5 result, too. We do realize though, that also less strong climbers may stand a chance to be at the front of the peloton, when it comes down to the expected bunch sprint decision:
Vanoverschelde and Salleh as those, who may struggle the most - both managed to snatch some notable results on this level though and can't be written off. Manninen, Coutinho, Matthews and Kruopis as maybe the next best sprinters - with also Tewelde and Brus amongst those, who will hope to be in the mix when it counts.
With the race being quite long, we should also mention some of those roleurs, who may try to fool the sprinters here:
Ratto as an alternative option for Equinor (but probably in a support role for Modolo?)..
Mundle, Quicibal, Aaltio amonst the best roleurs, too, but maybe lacking the stamina to be a factor in the crucial moments..
Sakala and Van Wyk with a better stamina and particularly a team like Signal Iduna may try to show it's colours with a late move here!

Thanks for the preview, not much hope for a big result but if Bogdanovics can sneak in top 10 that would be very cool, guess with his skill going up 15 is more realistic.

I just hope that if Salleh does get dropped Aregger won't drop with him but go for his own chances seeing as he is better over the hills. He should be either a great leadout man or a strong backup option.

No idea why we are not here with Guillen and Mezgec. Another planning mistake

Some decent Amateur team performances here. Nothing extraordinary, but I think this season has shown, that the addition of amateur teams add to the game. It ups the interest from PT managers, while also showing what experience can do in this game with a bunch of left-overs, where there even was a fight between the best of the bad :-)

I guess we fooled all of you by placing a rider in the break after I said it would be an easy win for us. Everyone panicked and chased really hard which didn't work in our favour in the end.
Next time you'll see
Anyway congrats Compal!. And cool that Coutinho is finding some success around here.

Disappointed that Liepins couldn't provide more of a lead-out once we finally established a train, but still a solid 5th from Manninen.

We looked really good in the sprints at the start of the season with good performances from Kreder in Down Under for instance, but lately it hasn't been working out at all. We really should be amongst the teams forming a train here, and not leaving positioning down to chance. While his finish was alright, 4th place in a C2 race isn't quite good enough for the wages we're paying Guarnieri.
Thanks for the report and sorry for the late post! Exams eating up a lot of time these days

We're immune to Top 5s, but I'd still consider 6th a great result, Kruopis feeling redemptive after a tough start to a season

Nice podium from Keukeleire here! Did not expect that after his last couple of season in the sprints. A small smile came when seeing former rider Ait El Abdia in the break as well
Thanks for the report and congrats Bjartne
