CT Rankings Update #1
roturn
And last but not least also the CT update post January!

Biggest points were delivered in the stage races Vuelta al Tachira for many teams and Tour Down Under for some teams.

Then also in the first C2HC race with the Great Ocean Road Classic and the C2 classic Clasico San Cristobal while Classique Pico Basile was tested by some teams against PCT opposition.

Clasico San Cristobal started nicely for Compal - Merida as their leader Zaini got the win with Gautier behind as 2nd.

And remember this later name! It is a rare scenario, that CT teams win in the C1 races, probably even less in stage races. But Gautier did exactly this and it wasn`t a weak startlist. 2 stage wins were added as well by him in the Tour Down Under. 188pts by him in a single 6-day race, is some kind of record I guess. 5 CT teams were around there and while all scored it was CT typical scores in the 5-27 point area. Delvaux with Kreder actually a positive as well in the TdU sprints with Kreder.

The Vuelta al Tachira was the first big mountain stage race in the CT, though the field did not have the very best and hence Pinot`s win is still a questionmark. Sure! It was 4 stages, the GC and other jerseys but hard to rate with Kiserlovski, König etc. not at the start. And it didn`t match the 188pts by Gautier neither on less race days!
Cerveceria with 92pts almost half only but got some decent showing with their team depth including a stage win from Teuns and a good GC by Grmay. Also BNZ with Von Hoff and their stage race trio in lower GCs or Andorra with Warbasse as runner-up and Campari with Cataldo as 3rd did okay. Other teams really with low scoring on 10 days.
Biggest news the 71 points by amateur team Festina with rider Kip. 3 stage wins! 2nd in the point competition. Mitchelton`s 21 with Mat Senan as 2nd on a stage and in the KoM ranking also mentionable.

4 CT teams in Pico Basile and all but one scored. Andorra with Kiserlovski even quite well with 32 points in a classic. Banco Bogota and Valio as well with their riders. But once those riders all meet Pinot in the CT mountains, we might see, who is best in that division and is continueing the Valls vs. Penasa battles from 2017.

Great Ocean Road Race was a shocking breakaway win by Oberfranken and Telia as 2nd as well from the break. Delvaux with top favourite Guarnieri must settle with 3rd but due to depth being 2nd strongest team performer. Cerveceria and Rothaus follow next.

In total Valio seems to be the team to beat early on. Their TdU coup was simply too good for a CT team and gives them a nice lead. As only team from the top7 skipping Tachira, they also have a good PPRD due to having those big 10rd not on their schedule. Scoring in Pico Basile and Great Ocean though was not ideal.

GCN with Pinot`s domination following early on but on 16 race days while Cerveceria and Oberfranken follow with 12-14rd as next due to strong Great Ocean Road performances.

One of the big promotion favourites in Delvaux sitting in 8th but on 10rd only and will have time to improve while also ENI-MOL and Rothaus Aegon looking quite good early on with their PpRD due to only having spent it on 2 classics yet.

At the bottom most amateur teams for obvious reasons and they are expected to stay down there due to 56rd only. Right now only Festina in 12th and Mitchelton at 17th mixing it up a bit with Bianchi and Newton having tiny scores. And then Sauber as only CT team without a score yet but only on 2rd though.

Individiually the two French Gautier and Pinot look set for a duel of the CT crown but too early to ignore others. Schinnagel and Kip likely had some of their best races already and surely drop down slowly while Warbasse and Cataldo are up there as well just like Zaini, Guarnieri or Teuns, who are other quality riders for a high individual ranking. Kiserlovski as 16th and less rd surely must be watch as well just like König further down.

Not bad at all! Mat Senan definitely rode a strong Tachira for us. It may not be too special afterall, but it's been a nice (and thrilling) trip to South America.

Great start for our team. Quite a big lead over the other amateur teams is very nice, but we also used a lot of racedays compared to some of the competitors.

Can't wait to get going again, as this might be the most succesful team Pfft

Not exactly the ideal start for us, still being on 0 points, but only racing 1 C2HC race so far and it being one we didn't really expect to get anything out of due to past results here doesn't make it that surprising that we are struggling.

Luckily for us GORC has previously proven to be atypical to the rest of the sprint season so we can just ignore it as a glorified training ride as our season proper is starting with our first race in February, if we are still in the same spot at the end of Feb then we will have something to worry about but it's not concerning so far.

Was hoping to get a little bit more out of TdU, but otherwise an okay-ish start to the season. Hopefully we can pick up the pace a bit in February and increase our PpRD to >12, which is where we want to be.

Valio with a great start to the season with the TdU win, and I'm not sure if we even will see another team top the table at any point this season. Festina also with an impressive points haul for being an amateur team.

A good month overall, scoring in all races we were a part of, and although Tachira takes up a lot of days it was a great decision.

Having 3 former PCT teams leading is no surprise, far from a surprise in fact, Oberfranken and Delvaux are good to see up there as new teams, it isn't looking easy to have a 2017 teams promoting, will depend on disbanding teams like last year. But I don't have much reason to say it already cause it's very soon, just January Smile

February won't be a vital month for us, but with Catalunya in there we are thrilled to see Kiserlovski again battle it out with PCT competition, Hong Kong and Gisborne we will be waiting for some luck, and also the classics season will start and I'm excited to see what my Belgian duo can do on the cobbles.

Hopefully still plenty of points left to score since my best riders haven't riden yet. I do think Valio will stay up there though.

I dont think January standings are going to mean much, February is when most teams will have at least 20rd under their belt and the picture will become clea rer.

and when teams stop getting lucky and beating Zalgiris boys

Easily my best start to an mg season but it is very much early days. Pinot's points this year are going to be vital looking at results so far. Let's see where we are come the end of Feb to really gauge our start

10th isn't where we wanna be, but let's hope Suaza will help us advance during Tour de Langkaw.

Off to a good start, though obviously we won't be able to keep this PPRD.

With the way February has started, I think upwards is the only way we will go this season, Kluge looking strong, Costagli is looking okay but I expect better, Tachira was a huge disappointment for him, better in Langkawi. Kluge has really lifted us though with his win at K-B-K, I expect an impressive cobbled campaign for the rest of the season Smile

I think it is also the first win for me in MG over cobbles in all my years taking part Smile

That lucky breakaway from Schinnagel saved January for me. Let's see if the leaders can step up and win some points in the mountains.

18 points? That's what I'm talking about. Of course there were only 2 classics, but I'll fight for not being last Pfft
