Course de Solidarnosc
Quite a young race on the MG schedule, the Course de Solidarnosc through Poland goes into it's second edition after being part of the PCT calendar last season: Jonas Ahlstrand as the first ever winner of the stage race, with Maxime Vantomme and Ivano Lo Cicero completing last year's final podium. Four flat stages, four mass sprint decisions last season. It ain't the easiest profiles though:
Three of the four stages are at least 220km long, so pure sprinters with less strong roleur skills and stamina may well suffer from the long days here. It should become an interesting race with a few top sprinters (like Haller and Salleh) not taking part and racing the Herald Sun Tour instead.
The Startlist
The Sprinters Favorites | FL | STA | SP | AC | Outsiders | FL | STA | SP | AC | Nizzolo | 73 | 70 | 80 | 79 | Thorsen | 61 | 63 | 82 | 85 | Castañeda | 71 | 71 | 80 | 79 | Kip | 69 | 67 | 80 | 82 | Croket | 74 | 74 | 79 | 71 | Lay | 73 | 68 | 79 | 81 | Havik | 73 | 74 | 79 | 76 | Bennett | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Vanderaerden | 72 | 71 | 79 | 75 | Hochmann | 70 | 66 | 79 | 80 | Haussler | 72 | 71 | 79 | 75 | Awang | 64 | 67 | 79 | 83 | Vingerling | 71 | 72 | 79 | 79 | Bogdanovics | 73 | 74 | 78 | 77 | Krieger | 71 | 71 | 79 | 79 | Jones | 72 | 66 | 78 | 78 | Thwaites | 73 | 74 | 78 | 76 | Andriato | 71 | 72 | 78 | 76 | Brus | 71 | 74 | 78 | 78 | Bar | 77 | 75 | 77 | 76 |
So in fact, we only have four 80+ sprinters attending here - with Kip and particularly Thorsen likely to suffer from the length of the stages though. Top favorites should be Nizzolo and Castaneda, who finished 11th in a stronger PCT field last season. He also has a great final leadout rider with Lay.
Several possible threats in this close field though: Kulczyk with a special race and Havik/Bennett make for a great duo - with also Hochmann as a strong leadout if he doesn't suffer from the length of those stages. Vanderaerden, Haussler, Vingerling and Krieger on a similar level, even though some of the better sprinters lack the acceleration - like Croket, Vanderaerden, Haussler or Thwaites.
Brus as another possible contender and the same definitely should count for Bar, who's by far the strongest roleur (with also the best stamina) amongst all sprinters. Surely a dark horse, even though if he lacks the real speed.
The Others Roleurs | FL | HI | STA | SP | Puncheurs | FL | HI | STA | SP | Bar | 77 | 70 | 75 | 77 | Roux | 74 | 78 | 78 | 57 | Gilbert | 76 | 76 | 74 | 64 | Grippo | 63 | 77 | 72 | 66 | Verbist | 76 | 63 | 73 | 57 | Simon | 71 | 76 | 75 | 72 | Smukulis | 75 | 72 | 77 | 72 | Gilbert | 76 | 76 | 74 | 64 | Vandenbergh | 75 | 66 | 74 | 61 | Passalacqua | 63 | 76 | 71 | 62 | Bouet | 75 | 67 | 73 | 67 | Wahyudi | 65 | 76 | 67 | 58 | Timmer | 75 | 71 | 72 | 71 | Chaoufi | 73 | 75 | 76 | 61 | Chavanne | 75 | 64 | 71 | 76 | Wyss | 72 | 75 | 76 | 68 | Roux | 74 | 78 | 78 | 57 | Gaimon | 71 | 75 | 75 | 67 | Offredo | 74 | 69 | 76 | 61 | Durasek | 70 | 75 | 74 | 60 | Bush | 74 | 62 | 75 | 71 | Hollenstein | 71 | 75 | 73 | 63 | Fouquet | 74 | 67 | 74 | 68 | Becerra | 68 | 75 | 72 | 68 |
Several more notable names at the start, of which a few won't count on their sprint skills:
Roleurs will definitely love the look of the profiles and just like the already mentioned Bar, we have guys like Gilbert, Verbist, Smukulis, Vandenbergh, Chavanne or Offredo and Bush as those riders, who would probably love to fool the sprinters on those three 220+ stages. It didn't happen last year, but that wouldn't prevent those roleurs from trying something this time, right?
Roux is featured on both the best roleurs and the best puncheurs list. Sure, hills won't be much of a factor, but there's some speedbumps, where a well allrounded rider like Roux could potentially play his flat, hill and stamina to his advantage. It's obviously a gamble, but Xero apparently gave it a go. Definitely one of the most interesting names on the startlist.
The same goes for some more puncheurs like the already mentioned Gilbert, Chaoufi, Wyss or Gaimon.

Yep we're dumb, no jams no Clarke yet, for some reason, Roux. Save us Obi Wan Noscsoli, you're our only hope

Two of my former sprinters with podium chances. Wonder if either Nizzolo or Krieger can win the race even.
Should be a close one and I guess 4 chaotic stages.
Hope, no break (except for a late attack) takes the GC. |

The clash with Herald Sun made for very difficult team selections for these two races. Probably a couple of mistakes in the startlist here, mainly with Wyss and Van Zandbeek likely to be wasted. In hindsight, Kreder's doing well in Herald Sun, but I probably should've swapped my sprinters, given the length of the stages in this race. All ifs and buts in my mind at the moment!
Anyway, we need Krieger to finally step up and redeem his poor season. Battaglin did it to some extent in Colombia. Maybe we'll see an encore. Hopefully! This is another huge race in our promotion push.
Thanks for the preview tsmoha

With our attempt at a contrarian approach to season planning this year, WCC have avoided the double-header and placed all our eggs in this basket instead. We have a strong line-up, and some key rivals are in Australia. That probably puts even more pressure on to achieve a set of good results, but also to take responsibility for the race in terms of managing breaks. Hopefully our team make-up is suitable and up to the task, with guys like Vandousselaere , Quintero and Bush to act as the engine-room leaving Vasyluk, Lay and JAC to focus on stage finishes. The distance of the stages is of course a major factor here. Definitely a key clash in terms of both the title race, and promotion spots. Fingers crossed, but dreading the PCM AI management of the BotD!
Hence looking forward to TSM's reports with both anticipation and dread .

Having succesfully sent our leaders to Australia, this race's goal will be to keep damages low. We do have Kip, but he's bound to lose time ona hilly stage so I doubt he'll be a big points scorer.
Also, let's go for the dream. Thorsen for the GC win |

Not sure of the reason why we don't get in the breakaways without any kind of sprinter for this race...

Part 1 of the dream has been achieved. Congrats sutty
Great sprint from Krieger, first to recover from a bad position and then for the final lunge. Keep this going please. It would help if Bogdanovics played his part too.
Thanks for the report!

Congratz Sutty you're on a roll
I have to admit I'm a disapointed, I got really excited to see Flaksis really close to reeling in the win, better luck next time.. Some bonus seconds so I can't complain

Just shy of another podium for Krieger but he keeps his form going. Good signs. Shame for Wyss to crash. Maybe a breakaway beckons later.
Congrats on the win Balkan. Thanks for yet another report tsmoha
