The Pro Tour circuit heads into Russia for another sprinters festival: The GP Moscow, a long and almost entirely flat race. Out of the former winners only last year's champion Sam Bewley is here again to defend his title, the 3 other guys don't find themselves on the startlist again.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bec.png Bewley also will lead the list of top favourites, as he brings everything to win this with him. But contestants are strong, and especially pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Mark Cavendish is willing and most likely able to spoil a Becherovka party.

A look at the favourites:

Sprint Royale: The top 3 sprinters of course are also the big ones in this scenario. Still, only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Mark Cavendish and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/akm.png Alexander Kristoff might favour this scenario most, as they mostly work with their sprint stat. In a slow race you might consider pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/btc.png Bos, but he is just too weak for as result in the Pro Tour.

A pure sprint drag would also favor the likes of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora_gbr.png Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk_fra.png Vanderbiest, who both lack strong back-ups besides their pure speed. Minor favourites here are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Groenewegen and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Van Poppel.

Accelerators: Take a good wheel and then fly away with a quick acceleration. That's the task for the best acceleration sprinters to use their punch. The list of those is lead by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bpv.png Kris Boeckmans, but also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Roman Maksimov has a fast punch in his legs as well as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Bryan Coquard. Don't count out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met.png Guardini and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Demare in a scenario like this either!

Endurance Sprinters: A hard race, which is quite selective on top, is what Becherovka will try to set up for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bec.png Sam Bewley. This would most likely increase the advantage, that he already got with his Spr/Acc combo, over his opponents. A coorperation for this scenario might well work with Grieg, who have a rather strong man sprinter type and clear podium candidate in pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Jacopo Guarnieri participating. The third team for coorperating here would be Evonik, that took the risk and brough classic specialist pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Greg Van Avermaet for a fast pace race. The classics specialist really has it in his legs surely.

Barodeurs: The cheeky guys that want to upset the sprinters. You have to mention pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met.png Mikhail Ignatiev at first, as he is arguably the best one on this terrain. His energy stats and Acceleration are the perfect setup for a big move towards the end. There are some more guys though: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Van Avermaet could also use an attack or heavy wind as well as the Aker guys pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/akm.png Golas and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/akm.png Oss.

The final guy to fear for the sprinters is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Jerome Coppel. The time-trial superstar might not in his preferred discipline, but still is a candidate for a big move with his pure strength and his acceleration ability. Sadly pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Lasse Hansen won't be allowed to ride for himself, and thus ca't use his power stats for this.

Breakaways: In this season flat classics all over the divisions have worked pretty well for attackers, even for ones out there for the whole race. So keep an eye on the full startlist of the 2016 GP Moscow edition:

Having Swift in Deutschland for stage win reasons...sees Groenewegen here just outside the top10...should have gone other way if I had known how Swift performs.

Hence a bit of overperformance here would be nice with a top10 by Groenewegen.

Top 20 has to be the minimum here for Boivon but he's been disappointing a bit this season so it's much of a muchness Bewbastard to win for sure

Very nice preview, Croatia14!

Seeing Kristoff as one of three 83 sprinters here is exciting, as it could see us build a train for him, or at least try to, which would be cool.

Bewley must be the favourite, and even without Howard his team mates should be able to set him up properly for the final sprint, with Vesely as the likely leadout, I guess.

Looking forward to see how this one plays out. On paper we've got a top sprinter and a solid team around him, fingers crossed we're able to use the team's strength and not that it only looks nice.

Quite a "mediocre" startlist to be a PT sprint race quite frankly, looks like Bewley will walk on the opposition if nothing weird happens.

I see nothing wrong with a mediocre start list for a flat race Pfft

Looks like a Top 10 for Demare is within reach.
Considering how Ciolek didn't really perform in our home race yet and how Van Stayen is smashing the opposition there, we have to get something out of this to justify our race selection.
(not that I had much of a choice race day-wise...)

Will it be someone else than Bewley? I say yes, GO THEO BOS!!

And yet again we venture into the PT, which for a change seems like a decent possibility to actually give the best teams some sort of a challenge with Vanderbiestwho has been hit and miss this season, mostly miss though.

I hope Hansen and AKA help out their respective teams!Course would be pretty good for an AKA breakaway too if he wanted to.

I expect to hardly score any points here. Bewley will probably take it.

Well... to keep my PT win hopes alive, I really need this race to be a success. The last race of Bewley's season and not the best competition here for a PT race. That probably means anything else than a win will be more or less a failure.

Thanks for the preview!

Nice preview mate...

Both of my guys capable of doing anything are mentioned in the preview. Bryan Coquard in hope of a relatively easy and fast sprint, or Jerome Coppel in the hope of the exact opposite with some aggressive riding in the final.

I have a feeling that we will come out of this race with next to nothing, regardless of Coquard being an obvious top 10 candidate.

Home soil, this is Maksimov's race to lose. Unacceptable if this Bewley guy beats him. Pfft

Wait, how did Bos not win? Croatia must've changed his stats Sad

Vanderbiest in 10th is a good effort for us in a PT race, but I'm sorry to any teams who could've used those few points.

Wow, very surprising winner! Evonik just can't stop to do well, congratulations, knockout!

Very happy with 4th place from Kristoff, as that's as good as it gets with him in sprints due to his relative poor acceleration. Looks like he timed his sprint very well this time. A pity though that none of the team mates seemed to be of any use in the final kilometers, as I'm sure Golas, Oss and Feillu could have given valuable help.

Also a vital race for Festina's title ambitions, I guess, with Bewley flopping and Coquard even outscoring him. Can't argue it's SotD who is in pole position right now.

Banana Banana Banana Banana Banana

Such an unexpected victory Grin
Pre-race i thought Greg Van Avermaet would be a top ten contender with many stars missing due to the Deutschland clash. Finally beating Bewley is awesome and seeing that happen in a race where i could not expect that makes this even cooler for me.

Quite some interesting implications from this race for the whole ranking situation:

I-Gen winning points on Becherovka raises their chances on the crown as this was Bewley's race to lose.

The relegation battle tightens up with Movistar, Orange and Red Bull all finishing top 5 which puts a lot of pressure on Pokerstars (who I'd expected to split their sprinters up), Jayco'z & Gazelle

Thanks ember!
Thanks Croatia for a great report!

Well that was shit. If Blythe just had waited for GvA...and then our sprint positioning was as awful as ever.

Congrats Evonik, you can stop it now, we won't see you again anyway. Wink
I wouldn't have thought that we have to rely on Herklotz to save our Top 10 spot.

Thanks Croatia!

I did say Boivon had been poor this season probably just not quite good enough at this level. Great win for GVA and knockout congrats

Amazing result for us here, but what a great result for Evonik. They are surely coming back into podium contention after Deutschland and Moscow.

Im sad for Becherovka though, as Im still hoping that they will win the ranking, but it might become difficult. Aker is also going well atm.
