My be-a-pro rider just recently won a WT-jersey (mountains in the Dauphine), so he is eligible to participate in the Vuelta. I've got enough points to enter the race, not enough to cancel Tour de Limousin, which ends on what is supposed to be the rest day before the Vuelta. Result: 25 stages in a row, where I'm the team leader in at least the first four (Limousin).
Is there a way to abandon the Tour de Limousin when it starts? Or do you guys think I should just forget about the Vuelta, it's my first season after all.

Dot level 0 and then wait usually works. That is what I do.

When I tried that, my rider just stood still until the peleton got closer and closer to the finish

That's what he's supposed to do, at the end of the race he'll end up outside the time limit and retire so he can ride other races.

Or forget the Vuelta and ride it the year after when stronger

I don't know if you can abandon a be a pro cyclist.
But you could edit your rider out of the race. I am pretty sure this has been asked and answered before. There might even be a tip in the tips section. If not for abandon a rider, there must be one for adding an abandoned rider back to the race, so you could use that as a reference.
It would have been even easier to edit it before you started the Limousin race, though. I think the easiest solution now would be to edit one of your weeklysave files from before the start of Limousin. If you are not familiar with editing, you could try my season planner tool to unselect yourself from that race.

If you abandon Limousin your rider gets fewer race days and will less tired coming to the vuelta and after it as well since you get very tired out racing a GT.
