The main CT events were Benelux Challenge and Great Ocean Road Classic. Both C2HC rated with San Cristobal being the only other C2 event.
Though several teams went to C1 events trying to challenge the bigger PCT teams. So Down Under, Tachira, Bern, Kigali and Catalunya all saw CT teams at the start.
Looking at the January races the main points were obviously collected in the Clasico San Cristobal and Great Ocean Road Classic. MOL - OMV won the opener and also scored decently in Down Under. So they top the standings early on closely followed by Podium Ambitions and Isostar. Though both scored all their points in the sprinter classic.
Tour Down Under saw a solid race for Ferrero while Ticos performed well in Tachira against PCT teams. Both probably got rewarded with their decision.
January scores:
1 | | MOL - OMV Petrom | 89 | 2 | | Isostar - Adriatic | 80 | 3 | | Podium Ambition | 80 | 4 | | Schuh powered by Wiggle | 77 | 5 | | Ferrero - Samruk | 76 | 6 | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 68 | 7 | | New Balance | 54 | 8 | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 41 |
The Benelux Challenge easily delivered the biggest points in the CT division and so it`s no surprise that the most successful teams there are also at the top of the full rankings at the moment.
La Poste scored the most there but used less race days so far. Hence they don`t make it to the top of the ranking. Schuh as good Benelux performer and Ferrero, who scored very consistent so far are at the first two spots of the ranking. The trip to Bern though was not really worthy for the actual leader with only 3 points.
Much better the PCT trip by Podium Ambition in Kigali, where they scored pretty well actually. Also World Cycling Centre was not too bad showing that CT teams can indeed challenge the best depending on the startlist.
Catalunya only saw two teams. Elta with Sella and Vivacom with Nieve. 17 and 10 points on 6 race days surely could have been better when sending some of your best riders.
1 | | Schuh powered by Wiggle | 209 | 2 | | Ferrero - Samruk | 186 | 3 | | La Poste - Mavic | 163 | 4 | | Sauber Petronas Racing | 160 | 5 | | Chiquita - Universal | 134 | 6 | | Podium Ambition | 132 | 7 | | New Balance | 119 | 8 | | World Cycling Centre | 119 | 9 | | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | 103 | 10 | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 93 | 11 | | MOL - OMV Petrom | 89 | 12 | | Isostar - Adriatic | 80 | 13 | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 76 | 14 | | TVM - Beslist.nl | 60 | 15 | | Löbauer Stadtwerke - Etixx | 48 | 16 | | Fox Sports - BikeNZ Cycling | 44 | 17 | | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | 41 | 18 | | Elta - Hellenic Post | 37 | 19 | | KAYAK - Clas Ohlsen | 29 | 20 | | Vivacom - DataMap | 17 | 21 | | cycleYorkshire s/b ASDA-Savers | 15 | 22 | | Eddie Stobart | 11 | 23 | | Hankook - Ping An Bank | 7 | 24 | | The Spark Project p/b Bollé | 0 |
The projected ranking looks a lot different at the top, which is easy to explain. Isostar and Mol - OMV did not race a lot so far and hence their great races so far project them very high, which will be hard to reach.
Far down Spark with a huge struggle. 8 race days so far and still looking for their first point!
| | | Team | Total | RD | PpRD | Proj | 1 | 12 | | Isostar - Adriatic | 80 | 2 | 40 | 4800 | 2 | 11 | | MOL - OMV Petrom | 89 | 4 | 22,25 | 2670 | 3 | 1 | | Schuh powered by Wiggle | 209 | 12 | 17,42 | 2090 | 4 | 3 | | La Poste - Mavic | 163 | 10 | 16,3 | 1956 | 5 | 4 | | Sauber Petronas Racing | 160 | 10 | 16 | 1920 | 6 | 5 | | Chiquita - Universal | 134 | 10 | 13,4 | 1608 | 7 | 2 | | Ferrero - Samruk | 186 | 14 | 13,29 | 1595 | 8 | 6 | | Podium Ambition | 132 | 10 | 13,2 | 1584 | 9 | 9 | | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | 103 | 8 | 12,88 | 1546 | 10 | 7 | | New Balance | 119 | 10 | 11,9 | 1428 | 11 | 10 | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 93 | 8 | 11,63 | 1396 | 12 | 14 | | TVM - Beslist.nl | 60 | 6 | 10 | 1200 | 13 | 8 | | World Cycling Centre | 119 | 12 | 9,92 | 1190 | 14 | 17 | | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | 41 | 8 | 5,13 | 616 | 15 | 15 | | Löbauer Stadtwerke - Etixx | 48 | 10 | 4,8 | 576 | 16 | 13 | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 76 | 20 | 3,8 | 456 | 17 | 19 | | KAYAK - Clas Ohlsen | 29 | 10 | 2,9 | 348 | 18 | 16 | | Fox Sports - BikeNZ Cycling | 44 | 16 | 2,75 | 330 | 19 | 18 | | Elta - Hellenic Post | 37 | 14 | 2,64 | 317 | 20 | 21 | | cycleYorkshire s/b ASDA-Savers | 15 | 8 | 1,88 | 226 | 21 | 20 | | Vivacom - DataMap | 17 | 14 | 1,21 | 145 | 22 | 23 | | Hankook - Ping An Bank | 7 | 8 | 0,88 | 106 | 23 | 22 | | Eddie Stobart | 11 | 14 | 0,79 | 95 | 24 | 24 | | The Spark Project p/b Bollé | 0 | 8 | 0 | 0 |
Top scorer in Benelux and also scoring in Cristobal leads to a nice lead by Hugentobler in the individual rankings just ahead of Bille and Konwa, who also podiumed in Benelux.
1 | Gregory Hugentobler | SWI | | Sauber Petronas Racing | 156 | 2 | Gaëtan Bille | BEL | | La Poste - Mavic | 129 | 3 | Marek Konwa | POL | | Schuh powered by Wiggle | 118 | 4 | Goodnews Clifford | NGR | | World Cycling Centre | 85 | 5 | William Connolly | IRL | | Schuh powered by Wiggle | 72 | 6 | Lars Van der Haar | NED | | TVM - Beslist.nl | 58 | 7 | Albert Timmer | NED | | Isostar - Adriatic | 50 | 8 | Leandro Marcos | CUB | | Chiquita - Universal | 50 | 9 | Domenik Klemme | GER | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 49 | 10 | Ramunas Navardauskas | LTU | | Ferrero - Samruk | 49 | 11 | Gasore Hategeka | RWA | | MOL - OMV Petrom | 45 | 12 | Alessandro Bazzana | ITA | | Ferrero - Samruk | 45 | 13 | Tom Diggle | GBR | | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | 43 | 14 | Simon Geschke | GER | | Löbauer Stadtwerke - Etixx | 43 | 15 | Enrico Barbin | ITA | | Ferrero - Samruk | 42 | 16 | Ricki Nelson | AUS | | Podium Ambition | 42 | 17 | Geraint Thomas | GBR | | Podium Ambition | 39 | 18 | David De la Cruz | ESP | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 37 | 19 | Alessandro De Marchi | ITA | | New Balance | 37 | 20 | Martin Grashev | BUL | | Podium Ambition | 35 | 21 | Giacomo Nizzolo | ITA | | New Balance | 33 | 22 | Rasmus Mygind | DEN | | Carlsberg - Danske bank | 31 | 23 | Nick Kinney | USA | | Chiquita - Universal | 30 | 24 | Sonomtseren Delgerbayar | MGL | | Fox Sports - BikeNZ Cycling | 29 | 25 | Tom Davison | NZL | | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | 28 | 26 | Sang Hong Park | KOR | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 26 | 27 | Marco Guillén | CRC | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 25 | 28 | Jempy Drucker | LUX | | Isostar - Adriatic | 21 | 29 | Fabio Taborre | ITA | | New Balance | 20 | 30 | Gert Dockx | BEL | | New Balance | 18 |

Obviously can't say I'm happy since we've done next to nothing thus far, but it looks like we might be able to turn it around going forward so I can only hope.

Pretty neat start for Isostar, if they continue the season like this they will win the division with ease..

15th. If the ToME keeps on going well, we may climb a place or 2.

Thanks roturn. Don't think I've ever been this high in the rankings, so I will print it out and hang it above my bed

17th. Decent, actually, especially with the ToME in progress.

Decent considering we've done not much other than Diggle in Cuba.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Very happy with that start and predicted finish based on average. Much better than last year, where at the same point I was 22nd with not many points...
Did not realise that Spark are yet to score
Thanks for the update roturn!

nice to see us in 4th early on, and it would seem a good indication for our squad, that is until you realise that Hugentobler has scored all but 4 of our points (2 for Muhlberger and 2 for Salleh the only ones he hasn't got).
Hopefully we can become less reliant on one rider as the season progresses and our leaders start to contribute as well, especially as Hugentobler probably won't be our leader very often this season.

Nice one Martii!
Steady start for Kraftwerk keeping the points ticking over despite the Benelux Klemme experiment not producing the chemistry I had hoped.
I hope Stauff's appearance in March will up our strike rate.

Thanks Roturn for the update.
Clifford's excellent performance in Benelux puts WCC in a decent position. Early days, but good to have the PPRD run rate ticking over at a respectable pace. Reckon will take another couple of months for things to settle down in CT towards a more representative equilibrium.

Slow start but we've not had good races and our best riders havn't had their real chances. Still we're doing nicely to build the promotion challenging base and we won't be playing massive catch up. Looong way to go yet though

Not bad. And with our results in Southland we may move up a little. Good start to the season for us. We gotta keep it up!
