Vuelta a Colombia
The Vuelta a Colombia, originally a race for the continental climbers since 2008, it acquired Protour status in 2012 and is a race for the best climbers in the world. This year’s edition is much shorter than previous years, lasting just 6 stages compared to the 12-15 stage lengths the race used to take.
The race takes on some of the hardest climbs in Colombia, such as the two ascents on stage two of the Alto de Letras, the longest climb used in professional cycling (below)
Favourites: Rider | Mo | Acc | Dh | Rider | Mo | Acc | Dh | Spilak | 85 | 74 | 68 | Henao Montoya | 82 | 73 | 62 | Madrazo | 85 | 72 | 69 | Nibali | 82 | 59 | 80 | Denifl | 84 | 65 | 64 | Pinot | 80 | 69 | 67 | Alarcon | 84 | 78 | 66 | Marquez | 80 | 80 | 64 | Tenorio | 84 | 65 | 68 | Ji | 80 | 65 | 69 | Velits | 83 | 68 | 64 | Suaza | 80 | 79 | 64 | Taaramäe | 83 | 76 | 70 | Morton | 80 | 65 | 68 | Dekker | 82 | 72 | 68 | Fothen | 80 | 67 | 62 | Kritskiy | 82 | 67 | 62 | Ratiy | 80 | 58 | 55 | Martin | 82 | 76 | 63 | Cattaneo | 80 | 61 | 64 | Dombrowski | 82 | 74 | 72 | | | |
The race is for the best climbers and there are many going for the win here, Madrazo and Spilak stand out as the favourites to win the race, although 2014 winner Alarcon is a good shot to take the win as well, Tenorio, Denifl, Taaramäe and Velits all can’t be overlooked as possible contenders here.
Sprinters: Rider | Sp | Acc | Mo | Rec | Rider | Sp | Acc | Mo | Rec | Degenkolb | 83 | 81 | 61 | 74 | Bennett | 79 | 79 | 53 | 80 | Howard | 82 | 79 | 63 | 79 | Petit | 79 | 78 | 52 | 78 | Kennaugh | 81 | 81 | 58 | 80 | Van Poppel | 78 | 76 | 60 | 76 | Maksimov | 81 | 84 | 53 | 75 | Merino Criado | 78 | 80 | 58 | 79 | Holloway | 80 | 82 | 62 | 78 | Salleh | 78 | 78 | 55 | 76 | Grosu | 79 | 78 | 64 | 77 | Sinner | 78 | 73 | 54 | 74 | Enger | 79 | 76 | 62 | 76 | Van Asbroeck | 78 | 76 | 53 | 77 | Coquard | 79 | 81 | 58 | 83 | Kreder | 77 | 78 | 64 | 77 | Lay | 79 | 81 | 56 | 77 | Havik | 77 | 76 | 56 | 74 | Colbrelli | 79 | 75 | 56 | 76 | Scully | 77 | 78 | 52 | 76 |
There are two stages here for the sprinters so plenty of teams have brought riders for those stages, Degenkolb is the favourite for stage 1, although Howard, Kennaugh, Maksimov, Grosu and Holloway will be still competition for him, amongst the many other sprinters here.
Stage 4 may come down more to who survives and has recovered well, so the better climbers such as Grosu, Howard, Holloway, Enger and Degenkolb, are the most likely names there.

That's a very, very strong list, miles ahead of previous years. I guess its a bit more popular now that it has been shortened
I'll take Alarcon for the win here. It should be an awesome battle anyway. I don't expect Nibali to be competitive at all in this field.

Suaza has been awesome for us since Colombia last year. Let's see if he can keep up the overperformances!
Sprinter field stronger than in the past, so not much hope for Merino Criado.

Back to reality... should be happy enough with a possible Top-15 from Morton, but that's definitely not easy to achieve here. A few of those 80+ climbers will surely perform under their manager's expectations or hopes! We could well use some points from this, but I better expect less.. we ain't that kind of a climber team afterall

Thanks for the preview trekmbc, great job!
Metinvest comes to Colombia with a 2nd tier lineup, higlighted by Eduard Grosu, who can have a podium chance in two flat stages. Karnulin, Avenir stage winner Dzhus and loanee Salinas should share the duties of GC "leaders", but we are speaking about top25-30 at best, seeing the very strong startlist. The best chance for these guys is probably breakaway, so i expect some agressive riding.
Very strong GC lineup here, Spilak should be the favourite, but i am supporting Madrazo here, who gave Quicstep some very bad time this year, so it is time to change it, right?

I have a top 3 goal here, which should be doable. If that happens I will achieve 5/5 goals for the first time ever. I expect to win though after missing out on l'Avenir, so lets hope that Simon 2pilak is up for it
Coquard is overmatched here, but with some luck he can get a top 10 or two. Becherovka is looking good to gain here - So again I will be rooting for them. Howard could be up for a stagewin here.

Denifl 16th leader according to PCM, they are most likely right
I really hope this is the race he turns his season around, however I wont dare to expect a lot with his Acc stat.
Alarcon or Spilak will win this, will be rooting for Alarcon as this is in his continent

Well, I brought my 3 best climbers here. Looking at the start list, in terms of mountain skill they are at about 25th-27th strongest. That´s insane
Hopefully Degenkolb can do something in opener and stage 4 - if he survives two mountain tests before.

This race seems to be made for Henao, but with that startlist I have doubts he could even sneak into the top 10.

Surely that Hl should be DH?
Normally Spilak should win here. He'll get second though, I think behind Alarcon.

Awful positioning by Asbroeck, Madrazo don't feck it up. Nice win for Movistar, great timing.

I hope Garby will help his leaders at Movistar in his last or one of his last races of the year. he hasn't been aggressive at all this year, so that's the most that can be hoped for.

Crap, this field is far stronger than I was anticipating, so bringing Taaramae here may have been a mistake (and was my only major question mark in terms of race planning with him).
Still, great start from Portela in that breakaway, being 3rd place in the GC is a very nice (albeit shortlived) bonus
