FBD Eire Tour
After one year off the calendar, the FDB Eire Tour is back in the ManGame - going into it's sixth edition, now covering all possible divisions: CT (2009-2010), ProTour (2011-2012), CTDiv2 (2013) and PCT (2015). Former race-winners are Frank Schleck (2011) or Giovanni Visconti (2010), while Marco Minnard took out the latest edition two years ago.
The race features 8 stages this year, all flat rated: so it's expected to be a sprint festival. Kickinf off with rather "easy" panflat stages, the second half of the tour brings some more challenging and tricky profiles. Especially S7 looks like an interesting day here.
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | HI | SP | ACC | Rider | HI | SP | ACC | Ciolek | 66 | 83 | 79 | Vingerling | 61 | 79 | 79 | Avelino | 64 | 82 | 78 | Bennett | 63 | 79 | 79 | Vantomme | 64 | 82 | 78 | Mezgec | 67 | 79 | 77 | Castañeda | 59 | 80 | 79 | Manarelli | 59 | 79 | 79 | Kupfernagel | 64 | 80 | 80 | Nepomnyachsniy | 63 | 78 | 76 | Bouhanni | 63 | 80 | 77 | Grillo | 67 | 78 | 78 | Rowe | 62 | 80 | 70 | Corti | 63 | 78 | 76 | Meyer | 60 | 80 | 76 | Kreder | 70 | 78 | 80 | Drapac | 53 | 80 | 79 | Haidar Anuawar | 56 | 78 | 76 | Kip | 56 | 80 | 82 | Cimolai | 66 | 77 | 77 | Nizzolo | 64 | 80 | 79 | Reimer | 75 | 77 | 80 |
Obviously, there's a lot of teams bringing their best sprinters to Ireland: while Cavendish is missing, we may expect a battle between Ciolek, Avelino and Vantomme as the very best sprinters here. Ciolek as the most promising pick, but those three come with a similar package of combining speed with the ability to survive undulating profiles.
A few other fast men like Castaneda, Meyer, Drapac and Kip may need to deliver on those early panflat stages, while we do have some more favorites like Kupfernagel, Bouhanni, Rowe or Nizzolo all hoping to score on a consistent base here.
Swedbank lines up with Reimer as their leader: he surely wants to benefit from the more tricky stages. Lacking the top-speed, he definitely needs to play his other strengths to perfection.

I honestly expected a tougher field here. Like Ahlstrand, Nelson etc.
This was the main reason I went for Tachira instead of FBD Eire. In the end it`s good that I wasn`t aware of a weaker than expected lineup here as Tachira played out nicely.
I have no idea, where Groenewegen would be in this field. Normally he should be shared 4th best sprinter, which means podium chances or with the right train on a good day even a win. But I was afraid of yet another race with my sprinters being ignored.
I seriously hope that we see 8 sprint finishes and the best will take the GC. But I guess we will see at least one breakaway mixing it a bit. |

8 flat stages for the best sprinter in the division. If we want to promote, races like this have to be the ones we score in.
The top 3 should hopefully be far enough out of reach for the rest of the field to end up as Top 3 overall too, that has to be the minimum goal here.
A sprint lineup of 75 75 77 77 is okay, but we lack a bit on TomTom so we need to get into the superior position before the sprint actually starts, or just play it smarter.
We also are one man down because of the Kenya-Dwars clash, and even getting these 7 together was a tough task in race planning.
There was never a doubt this has to be THE C1 race for Ciolek all season long so we had to be here.
The Formula 1 style bonus seconds system should help covering one or two breakaway wins as long as they're within a minute of the bunch...
But I fear one of the latter stages will fuck us up because the AI miscalculates the chasing over those hills, although 7 stage wins would still compensate a bad GC pretty well

Officialy the worst team! Let's go in the breakaways then, as no one likes Pelucchi's odds
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Interesting to see Stobart didn't bring Cavendish. Would have been a contender for the overall here. I foresee a battle between Ciolek and Vantomme, with the other sprinters quite far behind.
Or maybe the AI fucks up and we have a GC winning break again

Just like many others I expected a stronger startlist but it would not have changed anything if I knew it since I would never send Boonen here. He has too few race days anyway if I want to let him tackle the cobbles but I also dislike these completely flat stage races. So im kinda glad I didn't had to ride this one.
I have the feeling that Vantomme could be the best man here although with Ciolek and the all mighty Breakaways it will be hard to win the GC . But I think Jesleyh would also be glad about another 2nd place.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

AMEX's sprinters are second tier, but we are deep so hopefully we can deliver consistency and get Nizzolo, Grillo and Jake Keough in the GC points.
We also send a couple of guys who could jump in a break and do some damage.
Should be an interesting Week.

I'm not sure what to expect in this race...
Kupfernagel is one of leading sprinters but I fear that several stages are won by a breakway. but I hope that the Formula 1 style bonus seconds system help put Kupfernagel, in one of the table top places.
A stage victory and the top 10 in general is the main objective for this race

Yay, our first major race!
Got a Top 5 goal here, which should be achieveable as long as there are no crazy breakaways defining the GC.
As for our sprinter lineup this could well be our best lineup of the season, at least for a stage-race. No Maes and Verbist to pull here(obviously a clash) but plenty of other flat beasts anyway.
Hope that, if somehow a break gets the GC, at least one of mine is with them.
FTR stat won't be the issue, considering Elijzen has 79, Beukeboom 77, Timmer 76.
Oh my sprint train by the way:
Brus(76/76) - Kreder(78/80) - Vingerling(79/79) - Vantomme(82/78)
Should be enough, also getting an edge on Puma, hopefully.
Would just be nice if we're not the only one chasing this time.
Oh, and ''The Irish Rovers'' never fails to amuse me
@knockout
I know what you're hinting at, but yea, 2nd place wouldn't be too disappointing here, most important in this case is to just get my goal and hopefully a few stage-wins with it.

Unfortunately this rac clashed with an PT wildcard for us, East Midlands Cicle Classic.
And I didn´t want to screw up Ahlstrands XP so did go safe and send him to PT for some XP. But he may come back to this race next season even stronger
Hopefully Reimer/Kvist can do some decent result anyway

Bouhanni is here for stage wins, stage podiums and a good GC.
Hoping if there is a breakaway taking the GC that my team gets in it and I have a rider high up in the GC at the end of the race.

Avelino for a podium finish! That would be great, but even a stage win will be very very tough to achieve. Nevertheless, the somewhat weaker field may facilitate things.
Go Óscar!

Bonsucro have the 4th/5th best sprinter, so some podiums here and there and top 10 finishes more often than not could bring in some nice bonus seconds. Our Italian veteran is one of the top rouleurs, so if anybody puts in a late attack it could be him. As we don't have one of the top top sprinters maybe we can get into those early breaks, it does seem likely that a break will contest the GC here. Waffling - over.
Goals have to be:
GC - Top 8
GC - Two in the Top 15

Hell, if a body is not wanting to relegate no how, then that body should a send his prize shrimp to ol' Ireland - that said an Eddie might make the winning break if it comes.

We have a goal of stage wins here, hope that we can at least achieve it, being in a lucky sprint or a break away, either will do

My Prize shrimp wasn't able to compete here, but if he were we would have gone there for the win |

Oh, this looks like the very boring race from the profiles.
I guess some sprinter teams will be going home with big disappointment, given the number of fast guys and PCM AI, which chooses just few guys every stage to actually sprint.
That Tom Tom sprint train is beyond awesome, PT material leadout i would say.

To speak in Smowz` language: Good to see Aegon alumni doing well.
Nice that the strongest train is rewarded with the win here. Well done jesleyh.
Also Bouhanni picked the perfect wheel obviously proving once more high high value for mountain team Euskaltel.
Nizzolo a little surprise here. Then again he learned in the Pro Tour with my ignoring sprinter team last year and took the 2nd best wheel.
Ciolek as 4th surely has something left for the upcoming stages while Prio failed today. Then again they did join the breakaway and at least got the KoM lead. Fair enough. Giaux still that strong in the end shows that he could have done a better leadout. |
