Boonen rode the team preview for Ronde Van Vlaanderen. He confirmed not starting on sunday, but he is getting my hopes for Roubaix up..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I guess Lefevres "99% he won't ride, he's nowhere near ready and won't be for weeks" counts for nothing? He could make the startline, but he'd never make the finish without some serious boosting, if you know what i mean

No World Tour Reform in 2017
https://www.cyclin...m_in_2017/

Seems like it's actually postponed to the indefinitie future. I'm not sure if that's now good or bad news, because some of the supposed changes sounded mostly pretty bad whilst to others I was actually warming up to if properly used (red. of 30 to 22 riders but only if there's a strong increase of teams). On the other hand, cycling has to change some things, especially on the economic level with more races disappearing and teams folding. UCI kinda remind me of a lazy worker in a company, who sees that he needs to do something but postpones it to next month and next month and again.

It's like Vansummeren in 2011, he has the advantage of not having ridden a hard E3, an insane Gent-Wevelgem and well let's see how Ronde works out. His freshness can compensate his lack of kilometres. And most of all, his nemesis isn't starting. If he thinks he can get a decent result, I'm sure he'll start. He has nothing to lose.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Well, seeing he can only ride 4 hours at the moment. Seems a very slim chance.
If they choose him, it's actually disappointing, because they have riders who ride better (not injured) at the moment. Only as a team captain it could make some sense, maybe.

“I’ve been to Lourdes three times and I’ve still not seen a miracle. It would take a miracle for Tom to do the Tour of Flanders and for Roubaix I think that the chances are zero,’

I like this quote for the Lourdes reference. Lefevre, the man who makes the call not Coucke, seems pretty adamant about Boonen not riding and it's a position he hasn't changed.

Equally Vansummeren didn't crash out of Paris-Nice into a surgery. He rode MSR, E3 and GW in 2011 as prep for Roubaix before benefiting from some interesting tactics in the chase (but his ride was still incredible and worthy of a win)

Dauphine route revealed. Some very nice stuff compared to Suisse which only more or less has one good stage. Its pretty obvious here that they want the GC-contenders from the Tour to participate, with a ITT at 17k, TTT at 24, the Allos-Pra Loup-finish and the Montvernier-climb which seems pretty spicy. Interestingly there is is no day off after the ITT at stage 2 with the TTT at stage 3 (counting on PCS here, it seems kinda unkely?). The last 4 days contains of 4 mountainfinishes, allthough 3 of them are rather easy. Looking forward to see Mont Blanc-stage.

Edit: Whoops, forget what I said. Apparantly the there isnt a ITT, only a 24 TTT. Nevertheless a much better route than Suisse, as usual.

Profiles for those interested: (no profiles listed for stages 2 and 4, assuming they're just flat/transitional-breakaway hilly stages)

Looks like the Dauphine organisers have succumbed to the Excessiveuseofmtfs disease, following suit from the Tour (interesting to note that Stage 5 is an exact carbon copy of Stage 17 in the Tour). Interesting also to note the complete absence of any HC climbs (and they're usually much more lenient with their mountain classifications in the Dauphine than in the Tour), although Stage 7 should be very interesting - I like the 1-2 combo of the short sharp climb followed by the longer, more gradual one at the end. Stage 8 should be killed with fire; I don't even know what that thing is.

I guess it mirrors the Tour route very well, as the Dauphine normally does, so nothing new there, and they're giving teams an opportunity to practise their TTT on a course that is a little similar to the Tour one (although without the steep climb at the end). From a route point of view, the TTT should absolutely be replaced with an ITT of about the same length, but I can see what they're doing with regards to the Tour.

Yeah, the last stage also seems odd to me. But yup, its pretty obvious they wanna attract those GC-riders even more so than before with the TTT on a hilly parcour on about the same lenght and the Pra Loup. I dont know iff its weird, but I actually like to see what this Allos-Pra Loup hype is about, allthough I had expected that Pra Loap had a higher average gradient. It seemed so on the Tour-profiles.

And Villard-de-Lans of courrse. Memories from 2004.

Extra edit: The queen-stage of Romandie also has been published on a very harrd last climb with some tough climbs beforehand as well. Frroome and Quintana set to participate here.

Nothing surprising in the Daupihne route. They often provide a dress rehearsel stage for a Tour stage, not usualy such an exact copy mind. As far as it goes it will most certainly attract the main riders targeting the Tour which i guess is the point. Bring in the big names and bring in the media attention which brings in the money. Still looks like a good race could be on the cards!

That's not that far from the Paris-Nice route actually, maybe an idea for next year?

Probably a little too high altitude at that time of the year.

Oh, it was a joke. But I still see nothing wrong with it. The only problem I got is when they use the same routes a few years later from past Tour de Frances, that annoys me a bit.
