One of the new wave of cobbled circuit style races – this one contains a fairly short burst of cobbles at the end of every 17km lap. The burst itself is roughly 500m in length but contains a 300m hill – it is not steep but still offers the oppurtunity for a specialist to put a non specialist into difficulty. The last sector is in the last 1.5km!
With the cobbled sector proving short and sweet this could be a case of suiting sprinting hard men over the pure cobbler. Most of the usual suspects are here barring AMEX.
Quickstep have Vantomme and Baugnies and are possibly best suited to both types of situation, whereas Hornbach (Franzoi) and Allianz (Maes) will have to somehow create a selective race you would predict.
The likes of Steegmans (Gazelle) and Vaitkus (Privatbank) could be dangerous if the race is not selective and also watch out for pure sprinters like Cavendish (Belerus) and Maksimov (Project: Africa)

This is an absolutely crucial race to B3B now. Thomas is strong enough to go with the bigger specialists but also packs the sprint incase of a group finish. The normal support group behind him will have to work well.
A Top5 should be on the cards but to keep our fight against relegation fight alive Thomas has to at least reach the podium and then also get another guy or two into a scoring position

Hoping for Del Nero to repeat his few good performances he delivered earlier this year. His skill setup ain't too shabby with a high FL, decent COB and SPR, too... A Top-10/15 would be a nice bonus after a rather quiet Volta Portugal.

In this race for no real specific reason, hopefully we can make the early break and maybe Takenouchi can surprise with an early attack, who knows

Nice profile for Turgot here - aiming for a top 10 and a man in the break. |

This is an interesting one I think... It's difficult to say whether or not the cobbles will have a real influence on the result.

I hope Vaitkus can do something here, but really I already consider this as a waste of race days.

Think Nepomniyachsiy might as well take this, although these cobbles might become quite selective in the end.

I expect a pretty explosive rider to win this. Steegmans is my best chance of getting a good result I think.

Can't have anything less than a podium with Maksimov. I really hope those cobbles aren't selective at all.

Little disappointed in Turgot here looking at some of the guys who beat him in the sprint - guess it was just bad positioning. Thanks for the report Dmowz |

Quickstep everywhere
Great 5th from Del Nero though! Some well needed points after this crap race in the Baltic area Interesting mix of riders at the front, kinda like that. Del Nero with his strong allround package can always rob a result like this, but it's still a cool timing. Thanks for the report, quality read as always!

Finally a win in a cobbled classic.. Phew sigh of relief. Baugnies again doing his 'Cancellera' impression and for the first time this season it actually paid off, unbelievable. Great report, thrilling with a close finale thanks Smowz!
600 points in 7 race days, nice
