Add new dem file

I would like to make a new stages(variants), such as Central Africa, South America, and Alaska etc.
For this, I would like to add the dem file of these areas.
Have someone been tried to this?
It became an error "dem file not exist",
although I downloaded dem files from EarthExplorer.USGS(put /data/dem),
and tried to make and read the gpx file of those areas
from BIKE ROUTE TOASTER etc.
Can't it add oneself?
I appreciate, someone gives any information.

Thank you for the information.
I can understand that the file name of DEMs is related to geographic,
but I've understood that it is difficult to add by oneself.
(It does not read, even if file name changes variously )
(P.S.)
The height map is not so effective for me.
Someone are utilizing the height map effectively ?

just wanted to confirm that those .dem files work\are required on PCM14 too? I was trying to create a stage in Japan but it seems the game doesn't have the dem (which is weird as there is Japan GP for example) |

In the past I have tried to make the Tour of Hokkaido stages. If I recall many parts of Japan dont work with the dem but most of Honshu does work I think.

ugh, that's a heart breaker, I was trying to recreate the mt. Fuji stage, I hope that with the dem I can do it as you say, because to my surprise I wasn't able to.
It's weird because Japan already appears in the list on the right but I guess the .dem wasn't really there. I hope that

I have made the stage of Mt Fuji.
Mt. Fuji appeared quite clearly in gpx of BIKE ROUTE TOASTER.
At this point, the dem of Japan is functioning.

Damn, that's very weird. No matter what I do every time I ended up in the Fuji area it won't let me open the gpx (or, at least, I guess that's causing the missing .dem problem). I have already been able to do other Tour of Japan stages in other mountains.

Can you send me a PM with your stage, if it's not a bother?? I'm sorry to ask but at this point I'm not sure what's wrong here.
edit: I also have used bikeroutetoaster too to no avail, I'll try again =( I normally search Gotemba and move a little to north west and you see it.
edit: funny enough it seems that the problem wasn't Mt Fuji but near Kashima. I don't know why, it's still strange. But I tried to do a simple Gotemba - Fuji and it works, so...

thanks... yes, it's fine. It's similar to my Fuji which appeared when I made Gotemba - Fuji only. But I don't know why if I start from near Kashima it doesn't work. Thank you anyway =) |

Have the same issue and guess it's about the added dem-files not working properly in PCM14. Tried to make stages in Canada, USA, China, Bolivia and Canary Islands (all regions should be covered by the extra dem-files) and just in one case it worked. It seems to me it has nothing to do with gpx-files (if the error massage is: dem doesn't exist), but the dem-files once made for PCM10 aren't fully compatible anymore.
