The inaugural edition of the Rheden GP will feature 185kms of a mostly flat cobbled circuit, which will be taken six times. Do not be fooled by the flat classification, though, as a maximum slope of 10% will have to be negotiated each time around. It is important to note that the race does finish on a cobbled section – meaning that if a small group makes it to the final kilometers a sprinter who can cobble equally well may take it!
A total of 111 riders representing 16 teams will start this year’s race – 11 PCT and 5 CT teams. With the exception of Team TomTom, every team has brought the full seven riders to increase their chance of victory.
Speaking of potential victors, Baugnies, awarded the number one bib leads Quickstep’s chances of victory with his all-around ability. He also has a valuable super-domestique in Steurs, who will certainly be Plan B should things not go right.
Team Hornbach will be counting on Enrico Franzoi to deliver them the win their sponsors are asking for, and no doubt, he is the best cobbler at the start line. However, his ability to get over hills and lack of a kick means that he’ll have to make a solo move, though he’s got a great team to support him in Trentin, Veelers, Lindeman, and Wynants.
Maes, Nuyens, Taillefour, and Machado outline a group of secondary favorites without a good sprint. They’ll look to launch a distant move for the line in hopes of discord amongst the peloton, as none of their teams have the firepower like the teams of the aforementioned top favorites.
On the other hand, Boeing-Bulgaria’s Thomas looks to be the best cobbler with a decent kick, provided he can stay with the field on the rises in the road. Perhaps AMEXpc’s Breschel falls into the same category of riders hoping for a mass sprint at the conclusion, and his ability to get over the steep sections will certainly aid him in keeping him at the front. Turgot may also fancy his chances in a sprint on a good day, but he’ll need some outside help for that to happen.
Heineken’s duo of Gaudin and Langeveld line a group of weaker outsiders looking for a top 10 result. Many of the team-mates of the stronger teams may also be in this group, if they are given a free role, including the likes of Steegmans, Vanbilsen, Eisel, and Nepomnyachsniy. These riders would be leaders on many other teams, but it will be interesting to see what instructions their respective managers give them.
On the CT front, Carlsberg’s Østergaard and Risa’s De Haes look to be the strongest of their division. Team TomTom’s Lebris also fancies his chances against the aforementioned two, and it is very possible that these three riders go on an early attack to show their team colors.
Lastly, Oz and Chiquita don’t look to have serious riders to threat a top 20, and it would be a good showing for them to simply pick up points here.
The race will come shortly!

Baugnies to attack 60km to go. He'll attack so much hell be spent for the sprint in another disappointing race for us.
If we do better than what outlined above I'll be happy.

Some hills and a cobble finish. Come on Nuyens; this is perfect terrain for you.

AMEXpc's plan wiil not change. Stay with the leaders until the final kilometer and then sprint to the end. The finish on the cobbles may help Eisel & Breschel. Hard to see a win but 2 in the top 10 would be nice.
The under 200k distance and no major hills give us a solid chance to do well.
We need to get e rider in the break, so look for Kurth, Krauss, or Bush to be pushing to get in the break.

From what I have seen so far - a break does stand a chance in these cobbled races - that said Hornbach are so strong that it is hard to see them staying away.
Of course the parcours are not too severe and Franzoi and company did not do too well on the second cobbled race. Another open and hopefully exciting race.

It's a good route for Thomas. Fairly flat, good amount of cobbles. Hopefully he can be in the front group come the finish line where his sprint can make a real difference. So far this season it's been his best feature. Like to see a teammate going long to take the pressure off as well. Let's aim for a Top10 finish

De Haes has surprised before this season, definitely hope he can do that again. Should be tough though.

Probably too hilly for Turgot, could hopefully get a top 15 though. |

Well first out of the CT teams isn't bad, but I had hoped for a top 15, which I just missed out on.

Third cobbled race in a row - Baugnies first to attack from top favorites And stats wise he's actually one of the best sprinters too, amazing.
At least he did deliver another podium, but he really should have won. Nice to have 5 in Top 30. Shame Steeurs didn't even try to get into leading group. He really should.
Hard luck Amex, well done Nuyens and great report as well!
Baugnies atm is like Cancellara of 2011

10th again for Turgot is great, he's becoming a good scorer for us. |

Stop telling my rider(s) to not perform
First completely off-result. Of course this can happen, but I had hoped for a little bit out of this race. Well, maybe next time. If Mre won't have a bad influence on Del Nero

I kinda had a feeling that Langeveld would be an overperforming contributor when I resigned him. I'm glad I've not been totally wrong.
