A guide for creating a historical database
Tafiolmo
As the question says, is there a step by step guide for a beginner to create a historical database and how to do it step by step?

There is no certain guide on how to do this.
Basically you just have to come up with a good plan and make a list of the teams and riders.
Then by knowlegde and research design the stats.
For the rest, it's important to have the right graphics (shirts, logo's, rider pics etc.)
Good addition as well is to have a suitable calender and make it as realistic as possible.
It's a lot of work to do on your own and it takes a lot of time to research and make everything realistic.

For example my rider knowledge is pretty good etc but how long on average do people take to design their own databases?

Wow that depends on how big and realistic you want your database be.
I have my own fictional database I play a lot.
It took me a couple of weeks to design the teams, riders, calender, graphics and stuff and make it all work. (only just 40 teams/600 +/- riders)

It really depends on how big you want your database to be.

It could take a couple of weeks with full dedication, or it could take months if you don't have a lot of hours per day to spend.

You really have to work with a good plan and ideas.

What year did you do? Also how detailed did you make it etc?

I just made a fantasy database, with family, friends, colleagues and people I know.
I made 2 competitions, with 44 teams in total, about 600 riders, and a small but competitive calenders.

But thats nothing compared to a real Historic DB where stats/teams/calenders/graphics have to be realistic.

What is your idea of a historic database, what year do you want to re-create?

I guess a year from the 1992-1994 period or from the 1996 to 1999 period. As you can see most of the 1990s. Apart from the big tours this period had some great Flanders and Ardennes classics which I really love.

You're right about that, and I think you should try to make a database!
You can start with make a list of teams and riders you want in there, and with your knowledge and/or research assign the stats to the riders,
If you want graphical help, there are a lot of graphic artists on this forum, including me to help you out on this Smile

Do you know how to edit a cdb file? (probably the most important question Pfft)

No I don't know how to do a cdb file? My problem in that I can follow instructions to create something and then use my own knowledge and judgement to input the information that I want. But being able to create the framework to make that possible is my problem.

If you have 0 clue on how to edit a DB, I'd start by here: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....ad_id=8905

It's a bit outdated, but I guess it's still useful to get the hang of the most important things. For example, Q7 talks about how to get started with the Full Editor; Lachi's Editor or the Fast Editor are much more user-friendly and definitely easier to being editing with.

Taking a look in the Tips & Tricks section might also be useful: https://pcmdaily.com/tipstricks.php?ca...php?cat=13

And if you have any general doubt, some search in the forum can always help, a lot of doubts are always answered by the community Wink
