Hey guys,
Seeing that we didn't have a thread dedicated to PC building, tweaking, overclocking etc, which is odd since we're all PC/Laptop gamers , I decided to make one.
This topic is for discussing anything related to your home technological needs and interests. PC building, software, home networking, cell phone specs and rooting, you name it. Anything goes. If you have any questions or need any help with something, here's the place to ask.
This is just the opening of the topic. Feel free to start posting, I will post as well later on

Hmm, it's maybe off-topic , but i think this is best place to ask. Which phone do you have?
I am still using Samsung Galaxy S2 (ROOTed) , but i'll most probably get HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4 at the end of December.

I just recieved the HTC One last week and I've got to say I think it's great. I have owned some HTC's before but this is the first one that also has a (more than) decent batterly life. |

Not at all mate, thanks for asking!
From the reviews I've read the HTC is a very nice indeed. Problem with phones is that a lot of it comes down to user preference: what specs do you want, what functions, what OS, etc.
Personally I have a mid-highrange Sony Xperia SP. It's the Z's little brother, and actually the newer version of the Xperia T, which James Bond used in the latest film. It's just a notch cheaper than a Galaxy S3.
Samsung is of course famous for its TouchWiz interface so if you want to change Android manufacturers admir you have to ask yourself if you want a different skin or not.
Edit: @ fcancellara, looked at the Tweakers BBG for basic gaming system, have we?

Ah, your Motherboard and PSU are the same as in the Tweakers.net Best Buy Guide for september:
https://tweakers.n...steem.html
I see you selected an aftermarket CPU fan. If you're gonna overclock your CPU keep in mind that your Mobo isn't that great for it, as indicated in the linked guide. If you're not going to overclock, I'd stick with the stock cooler that comes with the CPU.

I've had overheating problems for a long time, and I finally solved it by pumping up by GPU fan and installing a case fan. But recently I've had problems with my games crashing and crashing the GPU fan. I obviously then can't play because it overheats and crashes and it will fry the thing.
I have a EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 550ti with 2 GB of GDDR5 for reference.

You had zero case fans before? No wonder you had temperature problems man, I used to have three and now I have five!
Overheating has various aspects to it... the cooling of your PC, the electricity that is sent to your GPU, the performance strain it is under...heck, if summers are very hot in Conneticut, and you're in a room with no air conditioning, I could see that being a factor as well.
Your card is relatively new so it should handle games like PCM just fine. Easiest way to check if performance makes it overheat is to turn down your graphics and monitor the temperature. If the airflow through your PC and room is good then it might be that it is configured or connected improperly. If not, you may just have a faulty card.
I'm no expert on this but overheating is a pretty serious problem so I'd recommend that you check a specialist forum for it, or if it's still under warranty, RMA it.

Well for like 3 months when I first got the card in March I had no case fans and it still was completely fine. And it isn't overheating anymore, I have a program called SpeedFan that monitors it. But it then a game will just randomly crash and all my fans will turn off, and I can't restart them without rebooting my system.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
And about the summers, I talked to a bud of mine, and it's true that during summers here it is upper 90s in Fahrenheit, which is pretty hot, and I don't have AC properly working in my room. But I had a bunch of fans going and it certainly isn't that hot anymore.
Edit: And I didn't build my own PC, so there were 2 fans in there already when I got it if that's what you mean. One on the processor and one on a vent, so I installed one on another vent.

So you're saying your GPU doesn't overheat anymore because you're preventing it from overheating, after the fans stop, by shutting down the system?
If so, it sounds like your GPU fan is malfunctioning. I did a little search and found this:
https://www.techsp...ng.181440/
It might just be what you're experiencing as well, the symptoms I'm reading are quite similar.
On the subject of case cooling, 2 case fans should provide enough if they are flowing freely into and out of the case. Also, make sure you keep your case free of dust. Dust acts like an insulating blanket and it traps the heat in your case and components.

No, the fans stop it from overheating, but then sometimes the fans will crash. and stop working and then the only way for them to turn back on is to reboot.

If you use ccleaner, use ccenhancer as well, it adds quite a lot of stuff to the ccleaner clean list. |
