I've been having some annoying problems lately. I'm not sure if it's my game or my computer in total.
Computer
My computer was scheduled for total destruction but I found out I can't afford a new one right now so I cleaned it up as best as I could and all junk is gone now. Only PCM is installed, no other games or major programs. Got enough RAM and a very strong graphics card.
Problems
When I start the game, it takes 5-7 minutes to start up. I stay on the desktop background for 5 minutes, then a white screen appears, which lasts for another 1-2 minutes.
Game speed is very slow. Simulating a (racing-free) day, with only "training" scheduled, takes more than 10 seconds, while this used to take only a second, if not less.
Loading a stage takes much longer.
In-race is perfect. No lagging whatsoever. High quality, runs smoothly.
Solution?
I really hope someone can help me here, or at least tell me if this is game-related or computer-related. Ask me if you need more details to make the diagnose, it's not my field so I wouldn't know.
Thanks in advance! |

Do you have a DB installed?
Big DBs can slow things a bit down, especially huge ones like the FCD

I have downloaded the PCM.Daily's Realname Database (https://www.pcmdaily.com/infusions/pro...hp?did=914)
So you reckon that might be it? So what do you suggest, re-install the game and only download a realname database? |

- I'm installing the game on my work laptop at the moment, to test if it will go better. |

No, that can't be it, that isn't a very big DB...
Re-installing is of course something you could always try

It's bigger than any database I've ever used, though. All that equipment etc, can't that be it?
What does that weigh on? If it's RAM than it might be that. Only thing that's not so good on my computer is the RAM (only 2GB I believe) |

Maybe if you post your computer specs, CPU, memory, graph card, windows, etc.
I play on a dual core 1.6 with 4 Gigs of ram and a Gforce 9400 GT with 1 GB of ram.
Not the best in the world by very far, but still pretty competent.
Also, try using a low res and lowest graphics.
PCM uses .net of something like that, doesn't it (don't remember right now).
And RAM does help out a bit. I upgraded my RAM from 2 to 4 because of PCM2010 I had before 2013. Noticed a nice improvement.

Intel Pentium D 925
2GB RAM DDRII
Windows Vista
Graphics Card has been renewed, one of the best around, so no problem there.
Though I've added many Stage Variants myself (CM_Stages is + 4GB), could that be slowing the game down? |

Should be better than mine.
My game takes less than a minute to start up. 3D race between 1 and 1:30s. But I don't think that is all up to ram. Off course more ram will help, but there is something else.
Go to computer>properties>advanced settings>performance
Check it to best performance (will disable all windows pretty things).
BTW I'm also running vista.
Try to update .net frameworks.
Apart from that, I'm not sure about the big DB's but if you can uninstall and use a "clean" game to test that is the best (boring) way to do it.
Just try and speed up your computer and see if anything is eating up ram first. But I would consider an upgrade in ram at least.

Okay it's fixed now, it works! Even with the PCM database. Obviously my laptop is better than my desktop computer. |

I've read that it's fixed, but just to make clear, yes, all the equipment included in Daily's DB could be an issue to weaker computers, but that difference you would see in 3D mode (frames per second, etc). But that was not the problem here since you wrote that 3D runs perfect
And finally you've downloaded a DB That's great to know. Hope you're enjoying it

Oh yeah, now you mention it, Ian used to avoid downloading DBs all the time
