Come on jury, 7 seconds???
The rules say this:
The Stewards’ Committee may exceptionally
allow one or several particularly unlucky riders
to qualify, after informing the race management.
In this case the following factors will be taken
into consideration:
• the average speed of the stage;
• the point at which the incident or accident
occurred;
• the effort made by the rider or riders delayed
by such incidents or accidents; |

It's disgraceful. Then, come the mountain stages, the entire autobus will be HD because they can't be bothered to ride at pro speed, and they will be allowed to continue the race, maybe even letting one of them win a secondary classification of a race he shouldn't even be allowed to finish, like in 2011.

Not sure we need a topic for this though.

This.
If there was consistency then maybe it would be okay, but high profile riders are given a bit more slack and someone like Ted King who with all due respect isn't very good (but he's one of the more likeable American riders imo) is tossed for riding with a separated shoulder, and actually showing some fighting spirit.

Agreed.
To his defence, or maybe offence , King rode at an average of 365 W today, during approximately 30 minutes. I don't know how much he weighs, but though I couldn't do it, it's far from impressive for a pro. |

25% is a lot of time to lose. And if you have a time cut then you can't let someone back in just because they happen to have only missed it by a bit.

*facepalm*
If it was a french rider he wouldn't be at the Tour considering he's only there, and indeed only has a professional contract despite being awful, because he's american and so is the sponsor.

I'm sure the Spanish jury who took the decision would be very interested about that hypothetical French dude.

If they were consistent, I'd be fine with this, although when a sole, injured rider misses the time cut by a few seconds I think it's sensible to let him stay. But when the entire autobus has been allowed to stay in the race being HD so many times this is outrageous.

I rode the Olympic RR route about 1 hour quicker than Vinokourov according to my own stats, doesn't mean i'll get a medal
This is different to the Autobus in the mountains. Its a sole rider, who lets be fair, is going to do fuck all all race except fetch water if he survives his injuries. The Autobus contains a lot of riders, some of whom play key roles in a decent proportion of the race (sprinters). Excluding the Autobus can eliminate significant proportions of the race and make a secondary competition (i hate that terminology, to many riders it it more important than Yellow) entirely redundant.
That said, 7 seconds on the fastest ever TTT stage is a joke!!! He got dropped early because of injuries and only missed by 7 seconds! That was a fucking incredible ride!
I would bet a lot of money he will be at the start tomorrow, and that nothing will happen because of it, with Ted being reinstated to the race. However if not, technically he was outside the time limit, and that the race organization is entirely inside its right to exclude him. Clearly he has been struggling, and more than many others in the same crashes, so perhaps it is best for him and the race.

If he did miss the time limit, so be it. But as Joe Lindsey notes, it doesn't seem like anyone knows for certain that King missed it.
https://bicycling.com/blogs/boulderrep...elest-cut/
King’s SRM shows 32:15 and his analysis of the file is that his time was 32:24 or less, which would be just inside the cut. The ASO claims King rode 32:32.60, but they haven’t clarified if that was based on a timing chip or some other method. King doesn’t believe his bike had the chip.
If the ASO can’t show proof of accurate timing, King should be reinstated, as the margin of error is simply too close to take a rider out of the race. |

So they took him out because of the time limit rule alltough they can't proof his time?
Have I said "Tour de Fail" before? |

This is nonsense and sad for Ted. He had a horrible crash in first stage, he fought like a lion and he goes home, even when being in time from his point of view, that would crush me.
Saying that he missed the cut because he is lame american only being there because of sponsor is bullshit. He has whole body bruised and grazed from the crash.

Its sad, but i dunno. Cannondale dropped him at the start. Thomas has a ffrractured pelvis but managed to finish in time, do turns on the front and only got dropped in the last 1k.
If they cant prove he missed cut the, thats freaking stupid. |
