I found a little trick to get a rider protected by more than 1 teammate. Maybe it's not new, but I haven't read about it anywhere, so here it is:
- give a teammate the instruction to protect your main guy
- now instruct this teammate to get water
- as long as teammate is getting water, you have time to assign a new rider to the 'protection list'
- then let the newly assigned protector get water as well
- repeat the above
That's it. This way the entire team can protect 1 rider. Of course this has some side-effects, as every protector is getting water and giving it to every teammate, so it looks a bit weird in first few km's. Also, if you want to add a rider to the list of protectors later in the race, all the protectors need to get water again, which at times can really tire them.
I'm not sure yet whether the protected rider benefits much more compared to being protected by just 1 rider, but I find it useful to keep the team together and keep a steady tempo without micromanaging to much.
This is probably not what Cya had intended, so I guess technically it's cheating, but I like the option of having more protectors and I hope they won't 'fix' this.
Anyway, hope this is useful. |

Oops I didn't read the entire post. Only the guide
Well. You would have to set all the riders down getting water every time you want an extra protector. You can't have 1 single assigned, so it's not just the newest, it's all of them. Seems like a waste.

Its known bug from PCM12. And its pointless. All protectors get tired instead of one and leader have no extra protection from more than one protector. |

I'm with tellico here.
I don't think it gives a benefit. Your leader's heart beat won't drop if protected by multiple riders, just the same as 1 rider protecting I think.

Cyanide confirmed it last year that it is only a display bug. The riders don't actually protect the rider. |

And even worse for this year: the protected rider doesn't benefit from being protected...

What do you wanted to say? The protected rider never had any benefits from this bug, neither in PCM12 nor in PCM13. But I am pretty sure that the normal protection works. |

Yes, normaln protection works.
But check this... heh, this will be funny:
It is not only display bug. It is works actualy. But it makes sense not for the protection of one leader by few protectors like sjon85 says. I did something else.
1. Kessiakof protecting Fuglsang
2. Kessiakof goes for water
3. Tiralongo set as protector of KESSIAKOF (not Fuglsang)
4. Tiralongo goes for water
5. Dyachenko set as protector of TIRALONGO
When all back with water we have situation like on screen: Fuglsang is protected by Kessiakof which is protected by Tiralongo which is protected by Dyachenko.
And surprise: it works. I mean, of course, this is no perpetum mobile or any miracle. Just simple sprint train but whit rear wheel drive not front
But heartbeats are ok, only first are tired. 2nd, 3rd and leader are protected. They going with normal speed (look that Zeits in peloton need the same pulse). It looks like breakaway but its not, they are going with this little gap all the time.
Well, this whole train only faciliating management and you cant win only by this but I can imagine that the possibility of creating such a train in the end of the hilly stage CAN be very helpful.
I have to say that I did it just out of curiosity and im really surprised that it works and how it is possible that not I think of this whole PCM12 year

@tellico: I've tried your 'trick' in a stage. While I don't know if any rider is actually having the benefits of being protected (the difference in heart beats on your screen could simply be the fact that Dyachenko is on the front of the group, and the others are on his wheel), it actually did work pretty well to organize a train of riders to pull the peloton on a mountain (the riders positions)
I had been struggling a bit with this in PCM13. I usually had one guy pulling and the other helpers on "stay in position" near the front, but that didn't seem to work pretty well, since the riders on 'stay in position' were constantly accelerating and slowing down, doing a much less effective climb (and wasting more energy) than the guy who was pulling, even though they were better than him in climbing. But with this method it worked well to keep them all on a mostly constant pace and pulling on the front.
It'd be great if some people decided to run some tests to see if there's actually the effect of being protected and stuff like that, but from a first try it seems like a good idea to create the so much wanted mountain train

And this is the benefit of being protected - leader is protected from wind Fact that he is protected have no influence by itself, just windprotection. Notice that difference in heartbeat between protecting and protected rider increases significantly when they are in front or break compared to being in the peloton. |
