I have a rider who is really good in DH. How is the downhill supposed to be taken. any strategies? I've never really understood that part of the game. thanks

AI doesn't react on downhill attacks ,so it would be kind of cheat (many thinks like that,i am not sharing that opinion) ,but why not,i'm using it. Also, i think it works such as FL , your rider will be fresher than others with lower DO , you can attack for longer + faster.
These are some basics. |

Well, obviously the downhill advantage is supposed to be used on downhills But why would you use them, then depends on the type of rider. If it's a GT leader (e.g. Nibali) or even a leader for GC in smaller races ( = if time is what matters), you can easily gain time on downhills after the last climb of the stage by going dot/relay 99 (if the other riders aren't good in downhilling, they'll unlikely manage to keep with you).
If however the rider is just a domestique, you can f.e. send him to a breakaway in a strategical GC day with big descents to help your leader (either if he gets dropped or if you want to do an early attack, like Sagan/Nibali in last years Tour).

A domestique with good downhill can also chase in a lot of time on a long descent. |

the important thing about DH is that it is the only attribute that cannot be trained. |

The downhill stat relates to top speed on twisty descents, and determines how often a rider will crash on a descent. This second criteria actually applies to all terrain-oriented stats.

It can, but with no bonus ( = doesn't matter which of the trainings you choose, DH will always develop in the same speed)

Yeah, 0.01% a day.
