Change existing stage in a race into your selfmade stage

What i wanted to do is replace a stage with my own stage. I created my stage, then named it to the existing stage and copied those 2 files so they would be replaced. Then I went to the database with PCM Fast Editor, to change some things like kilometers etc.

The thing is: the original stage was a flat stage. Mine is with cobblestone-sections. I ticked off "has cobbles". When I tried the stage, everything went good; except that the cobblestone sections just had the look of cobbles, but it didn't change anything from the normal asphalt.
Also did the race just had the logo of a flat race, no cobbles were on that logo.

Had the same problem when i wanted to change a hill-stage into a mountain stage, even though I changed the relief from "2" to "4".

What am I doing wrong?

For the record, I'm talking about changing a race in an existing careermode-game.

Since you're trying to change stages in your career mode, are you sure you made the edits to the save game and not the 'normal' .cdb?
