Donetsk GP Preview
April 20, 2013 : Europe C2 : Ukraine
241 kilometers of flatness. A few speed bumps along the way but none
of them should cause any problems for the sprinters looking for the victory.
Roman "Russian Rocket" Maksimov was one of the more interesting transfer season moves as he was loaned down to the C2 division after a winless 2012 campaign with CSC-Orbea. Not only is this his first race of the season, it's PrivatBank's win goal... no pressure. Helping him in his quest for victory is a very strong sprinting group of Polivoda, Gomenyuk, and Ansons.
Die Berg Komt Er along with the other teams don't really have a top sprinter to match Maksimov (well perhaps the next guy on the list is in the same realm), so instead they bring a collection of sprinters. 4 to be exact with Duque being their only sprinter sitting at home. If they can play their cards right they could walk away with a lot of point from Hochman, Rizza, Abakoumov, and Chavanel.
Marco Guillén has the same top end speed as Maksimov but lacks a tad in acceleration and saving energy over the course of a race. Considering the length of the race it is going to be hard for him to have the energy to compete at the end of the day. He will have some nice support with Morales, Cano, and Kopp if he survives though.
The next tier of sprinters are Sutton, Dekkers, and Chicchi. All have the potential to take a top 5 and could challenge for the win. Along with
Schinker who picked up the first "flat" C2 classic of the season.
While further down the board are Abdallah, Papok, and one of the few sprinters that doesn't mind the the hills (although there aren't many here) Dall'Antonia. If they can position themselves right a victory could be in the works, but it will take some luck.
And filling out the rest of the start list are two PCT teams Pivovarna Lasko and LukOil. The sprinters representing them are Bozic (since Hutarovich didn't meet the restrictions) and Mironov, respectively.

Hard to look past Maksimov here. Best sprinter and best leadout train. Think the lenght will make it as good as impossible for the Kankovsky/Guillen-types to do something in the sprint.

Exactly why he won't win. This is PCM after all

I got excited and thought we might be in this race...
Then I remembered we weren't. Sadface.
I'll take one of the Die Berg Sprinters to win, feels like they are due at some point.

Race in Ukraine, finally. We dont have the team to compete, but our scouts and management will be present and will do a lot of business and marketing activities.
We truly support PrivatBank in this race and our only wish is Maksimov sprinting to the win and bringing the glory to the home country team!
But from personal point of view, i expect diasappointment of home crowd and one of Die Berg sprinters or Cicchi to win...
Be all glad that Hoffman does not match the restrictions, but he will be back in late season for Race Horizon Park race.

Hope for a similar sprint to the one Polivoda won in the Middle East, and with Gomenyuk and Polivoda as lead-out instad of Gomenyuk and Lima for Poli we definately are stronger here.
Now that final hill is somewhat scary, don't know how steep it is, if it is too steep for roman I hope my team is smart enugh to let Polivoda sprint...

Nice looking startlist, we havent any chances to creating a train, but i hope we can suprise everyone
I miss a little Steegmans from this race, i think this race its tailormaded for him, because the high stamina-flat combo (79-79).... |

Ohhh, one more thing. If every team have a sprinter captain, who will be in breakaway? |

Hope for the final hill to give a chance to Dall'Antonia to shine. Otherwise, top 10 would be a good result. |

Not many expectations for this one, so I hope Borut can as many points as possible here, hopefully with Borrajo helping as well.

I think Guillen will either fight for the win or be nowhere there.
Not bringing Steegmans can turn out both ways I think.

Guillen should fight it out, if the final climb isn't steep and the lenght of race affect him. |

Hoping for a repeat of Puig from Schinker, but that seems unlikely. A top 5 would be nice though.
I'm calling a win from Guillén, don't know how Maksimov will deal with the (very) small bits of uphill. |

Waste of race days for us, looking more and more like Puig was a fluke...
Anyway congrats to Miguel and thanks for the great report MrE |

Happy with Borut's performance here, but as Alejandro Valverde would say, it's a shame that Dall'Antonia was up the road.
Great report, and congrats Miguel.

Great win by Dall'Antonia, the man is having a great season!
Might be time to write off our season though... just cannot get any luck...
(hopefully my UCPCL will pick up the slack *cheap plug*)
