We're in Brittany, France for the fourth C2 cobbled classic of the season.
The Tro Bro Leon has 4 cobbled sections along it's 199 km long route. The first two, located right after the start and just in front of the midway point of the race will probably not have too much of an influence. But the last two will. The penultimate cobbled section starts with 6 kms to go and will definatly play an important role. As will the last cobbled section which starts 600 metres from the line. This might give the top cobblers more advantage if they have to go against some stronger sprinters.
A big surprise on the startlist as one of the 'Big Three' is missing. Geraint Thomas decided to stay home for this one. A very strange choice considering that there aren't many chances for these cobbled specialists. Gert Steegmans has taken multiple second places in cobbled classics this season. He will look to do better here. Riding for a Costa Rican team, it's nu surprise his support is not the strongest with probably only Kopp worth mentioning. Last of the 'Big Three' is Nikolas Maes. He is looking for the win as well and with a strong Allianz team, probably the best cobble team in the division, to back him up everything should be possible. Coyot has already showed he can win himelf and the other 5 guys on their team list are good cobblers aswell.
Niki Ostergaard leads the Die Berg squad where they could be hoping for a mass sprint with the Duque, Chavanel and Abakoumov combo. Vangenechten won the last cobbled classic in Oetingen by anticipating. That tactic could work out again for him, just as for his teammate Sentjens. Super domestique Grashev has a free role without his leader and should definatly take this opportunity. Machado is Prio Porto's leader here and should be able to top 10. Something he normally isn't able to do in C1 classics.
Guys like Stevenson or Flecha could surprise if they go on a long attack or keep everyting closed for their teammate sprinters Saramotins and Lequatre. They would need much luck though but Moren showed it is possible by winning Nokere Koerse.
LukOil, Risa - Ergon, Nieuwsblad, Privatbank and Credexbank have no cobblers of note but with the short amount of cobbled kilometres, they could be hoping for a sprint as they have some strong sprinters in their lineups. With the low amount of cobbled kilometres, it's probably worth pointing out the most notable sprinters. The Die Berg trio Abakoumov, Duque and Chavanel has already been mentioned. Just as Lequatre and Saramotins. Sutton is only just back from Alentejo where he won a stage in a mass sprint and last you have the Credexbank trio Papok, Clarke and Kankovsky though it has to be seen if the back up stats of these last two are good enough over a 200 km course.

I hope we can take this with holding back the breakaways and with Maes attacking in the last 10 km Or Coyot with his home bonus |

Steegmans race to loose for me. He has a great finish, which will make a huge difference on the rather easy route.
That said i want the breakaway to win and validate Thomas missing this one. Also very interested to see what Bakari does...

Hopefully Steegmans will take home this one..but I would be suprised if not yet another lucky break holds the entire way in again.

Steegmans should take this home. Altough, the last kilometre is fairly narrow, so that might play a role here. |

It's a version withouth narrow roads cause the results with the narrow road in the last kilometres are way too random.

I have to agree with others, Steegmans has to go in as the favourite. The cobbles won't make much difference but he will probably have a tinyy bit more enrgy left over them and the speed to finish it off.

Nice then. That makes Steegmans even more favourite then. Taking care the sprint is about 2.5 kilometres of cobbles with 500 metres off flat with no cobbles, we'll see. Don't know what counts to sprint on cobbles tough. Cobble stat or sprint stat or a combination of the two. |

I guess positioning will be key in any kind of sprint, I recall Peeters winning one of these classics - so it really could be anyone who can sprint.
Still the cobbles and a windy day could cause some splits.
Welcome to the new reporter here as well, it is a nice detailed preview so looking forward to te report.

Yeah, the other strong cobbled teams have been slighy dissapointed with their helping so far. (Excusing my team since it's so weak )
But anyway, bigger lineup than usual, might impact the race with not all teams sending a guy to the break-away.

No idea why I entered cobbled races
Ansons could do well with 69COB/74SP but I don't expect any great performances...
Perhaps Lima or Buts can go in the break and steal it?

Really don't know why I didn't send Stake Laengen here... Sutton and Lander did a decent job in Trofej Porec so I hope they can improve here.

I have the same problem. Thought is was only me cause nobody said something about it. It's strange cause there is a part of the preview missing aswell.

Moren is going to win here like he did in Nokere Koerse.. Otherwise I hope that Lilholt or Norman Hansen could be a part of the - probably - big final group, who are suppossed to battle for the win! |
