Hello everyone, it's my first post here. (Though I've been a long-time thread reader)
I'm kind of a noob at PCM12, been playing for a few weeks. I was playing on Medium difficulty the whole time, and after a while I got the hang of it and started winning every stage.
I changed difficulty to hard and it seemed suddenly I can't win anything. For example, even on flat stages I can't pull the breakaway back! They win by like 2 minutes in the end and doesn't give my Sprinter a chance.
On hill/mountain stages, I never have energy to attack or follow halfway up the mountain. Protecting doesn't seem to help??
Any tips on playing difficulty hard would be appreciated.
If you've already been reading for some time, welcome to the posting forum then
There's no gameplay difference between medium/hard. The only thing that changes is that in hard the AI riders get a +2,5% boost on their stats. So basically the same tactics can be applied in both difficulty levels. You could check the Tips and Tricks section for some other strategies you could try. If you're already doing that but still can't get any results in hard while medium is too easy, you could edit the Local.cdb to change how big is the AI bonus (e.g. change it to +1,25%, then you'll be halfway medium/hard).
Your probably trying to pull the breakaway back to hard too late. I know when i went up difficulty I found it was often best to put someone up in the relay early at a slowish pace, otherwise the whole peleton can run alone for miles and miles at only 15-20 effort. If that happens, the breakaway gets a huge lead without ever having to push, and so can easily match the the effort when the chase does get underway.
That then makes you panic, start pulling it back hard, but the tempo is too high for anyone else to want to help. You kill your team trying to pull it back, dont have enough power to do so, conk out and by the time the pack realises your not pulling anymore its too late.
If its not that, some more details of what your doing and whats happening with other teams would be helpful to try and give more advice.

Thank you. It worked great. I started pulling at 50 as soon as breakaway got 3-4 min, then peloton catches them 10-20 km from finish, and I win the sprint
What strategy do the good people here use for mountain finishes? I couldn't find anything working under that section in Tips and Tricks.

if u have a contender for mountainfinish, the only way to succeed is to use the dot effort. you just have to go with the flow and keep it up among the first 5-8 rtiders, so you don´t get blocked. if the finish is on a small road, make sure you are among the three first positions. if your rivals are 5-7 places back, it´s very easy to hurt them when you pull.
remember to look what your rider is good at. does he have a high RES and low ACC, maybe you shouldn´t attack so much until maybe the last 1.4 km. if he´s more like contador, you can attack maybe two times. I play on extreme and my maximum is two attacks on a MO finish. often just one and inside 3 km to go, but that depends on which contenders I face.
about pulling in breakaways. remember that if you have a leaders jersey the peloton expects you to reel them in mostly, so start a little bit earlier than 1min/per 10 km. if they have 9 minutes you start on 110 km to go.
when it´s mountainous and reeling in breakaway you have to be careful. it´s easy to burn your teammates out since you´re often the only team ulling the breakway in. so start f.e if the E1 has 15-16 minutes on the peloton and it´s 100 km left. hope you found this useful don´t worry, you´ll get used to the transition
I've been trying on hard for a very long time and I still struggle to find it just as enjoyable as medium. I get a win every now and then, but never one of the big classics, nor a big stage race. What I do now is that i only have riders that are outsiders and do my from what i've got and I find it very entertaining. Although after reading this post I'm going to try out what lluuiiggii said, put the bonus to 1,25 % and take it from there. Thanks

On a side note, I was reading the forum and just found out about a TTT glitch in PCM12? What is this and is that why I can't win even with effort 99?
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"
Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!

It's a strange bug from the game. TTT's from 20km long or shorter are almost impossible to win, it seems, while extremely long ones(50km+) are easy to win. You can better simulate both of those TTT's.
