Secondly, I had a British team but when it came to the world championships I could not race them. Why is this?

Delete your Options.xml from the Pro Cycling Manager 2010/Config folder.Mine is located in "C:\Users\Andrei\Documents\Pro Cycling Manager 2012\Config"
There was a bug with the World Championship that was fixed in one of the patches, so are you sure you have the latest patch? You can check this by going to your main PCM Folder (usually something along the lines of Cyanide/Program Files/PCM12), right click on the file "PCM.exe" -> Properties -> Details, look at what's written in "version". (should be noted that usually a patch only has effect on future careers; f.e., if you created the career with no official patch installed and later do it, the created career will not benefit from all fixes of the patch).
