tdf_1989 revisited
marlak
Hi everybody!
Here is a new version (3.0 - the final version, for me) of the 1989 Tour de France, made for PCM 2012 and modelled on the files previously released for PCM2011 by Nicolas Portal, who allowed me to post these files.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TDF 1989 - V 3.0 by marlak

Improvements in versions 2.0: climbings, road tracks, intermediate and final sprints, GPMs; cities (all were rebuilt), minor issues solved; Tour Eiffel added; read_me file updated.
Improvements in version 3.0: EVERYTHING!

Please read the following instructions carefully:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION. You have to extract the "Cm_Stages" and "3D" folders into the main directory of the game.

MODIFYING THE SPAWNABLEOBJECTS.XML FILE.
In order to see the Eiffel Tower in the game, you have to open the "SpawnableObjects.xml" file (its path is: "directory of the game \ 3D \") by the Windows Block Notes. Now, search for the line:
" <Boats>3D\Landscapes\IsolatedObjects\Boats\</Boats>"
and go ahead (press Return): you'll create a new line, where you should write
" <TourEiffel>3D\Landscapes\IsolatedObjects\TourEiffel\</TourEiffel>"
(maybe you shoud copy and paste this line, 'cause you have to mantain the empty space at the beginnig).
Now, save and quit the modified file.

TWO IMPORTANT NOTES:

1 - To avoid program crashes, you NEED to install the PCMFrance Podium Pack (search for the file in the PCM forums)

2 - To avoid the water issue in the 13th stage, I suggest you to modify the "StageConfiguration.xml" in the Documents folder (default path: My Documents / Pro Cycling Manager 2012 / Config /) before starting the stage.
Open the "StageConfiguration.xml" by Windows Block Note.
Search the following line:
<WaterGeneration>true</WaterGeneration>
and substitute it with this one:
<WaterGeneration>false</WaterGeneration>
Now you can play the 13th stage.
At the end of the stage, you have to overwrite again the line with the original one:
<WaterGeneration>true</WaterGeneration>
So you'll see again water places in your stages.

The 21 stages were dinided into 2 files (due to the dropbox limitations):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAGEMAKERS FOLDERS. You DON'T NEED to import the folder named "Stagemakers": it contains the "top_tdf_00_1989" stage that will not appear in the game (you have only to play with 21 stages, not 22) and the "zcts" files, useful to modify the stages. In other words, the "Stagemakers" folder... it's just for stagemakers!

*: in the 3th stage I used some Spawnable Objects by Arma. You'll see cyclists from the database DBVNC 2.0 (2012 season). Screenshots are from v. 1.0

READ ME FILE EXCERP:
Now, let me explain how I worked...
Starting from the 1989 stages posted by NicolasPortal, I focused my attention on road-tracking: climbs, descents and elevations as Emmea's stage-tutorial. So, I changed slopes following the informations of the site www.salite.ch (they concern "gameplay", not "reality"...). I adjusted city maps, trying to avoid "unreal big walls". I deleted road-points according to the stage-lenght required in the file formerly posted for PCM2011. Climbs and descents are now more gradual and constant. Now, all the bridges should be over the water level. Intermediate sprints were positioned at the end of a straight as much as possible. The heihght of the road-points on the F1-circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, in the 3th stage, are (almost) the real ones - even if Eau Rouge and Radillon were tracked as gameplay requirements... and so on. (Oh, in the Spa-Francorchamp's circuit you move in the opposite direction to the F1-cars, it's not a mistake!).
In the 4th stage, most cobblestone-roads have 2 lines: I mantained the structure of the original files 'cause I think it's better to get a "fantasy stage" with a "realistic gameplay" rather than the opposite: you're playing the fourth stage out of 21, it's not the Paris-Roubaix race!

ISSUES UNSOLVED. Tracks and environment are fictional. I got no info about the profile of the cotes and I've never seen that places.

I don't know how to import "gpx" files into the Stage editor and so I could only modify existing "zcts" files. It seemed to me I worked hard about this, but the final result seems to be just a sort of "basic version" of the 1989 tour. Anyway, I hope you like this attemp...

Your comments and suggestions will be much appreciated.
I wish to thank:
- Nicolas Portal (from PCMdaily forum) for having shared the original files with the web community.
- Emmea for the very useful tutorial about the stage editor (and his beautiful stages)!
- the Pcmdaily.com staff and the PCM web community for sharing their works
- the Cyanide team, for this very nice game and the editors added.

Everybody can modify the stages uploaded using the "zcts" files included into the stagemaker folder. I only ask you to share your work with the web community by this forum. Thank you!

That's all. Enjoy yourself! --- marlak

Hallo sali, it's a good idea, but some other editor should keep on this project …

Hallo Rauling, you're right, I linked a screenshot pack in the first post.
Let me explain you how I worked (I hope you understand my English, I'm sorry for the mistakes).
I focused my attention on road-tracking: climbs, descents and elevations as Emmea's stage-tutorial. So, I changed slopes following the informations of the site www.salite.ch (they concern "gameplay", not "reality"...). I adjusted city maps, trying to avoid a lot of unreal "big walls". I deleted road points in order to mantain the stage-lenght required in the "original" file posted for PCM2011. Climbs and descents are now more gradual and constant (they're less hard than the real ones: they're calculated in comparison with the whole stage and tour). The spawnable objects were moved in order to this.
Now, all the bridges should be "over" the water, not under it. Intermediate sprints were positioned at the end of a straight as much as possible. There should be no "overrunning roads" and less "flying people". The heihghts of the road-points on the F1-circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, in the 3th stage, are (almost) the real ones - even if Eau Rouge and Radillon were tracked as gameplay requirements.. and so on. (Oh, in the Spa-Francorchamp's circuit you move in the opposite direction to the F1-cars, it's not a mistake!).
In the 4th stage, most cobbleston-roads have 2 lines: I mantained the structure of the original road-track 'cause I think it's better to get a "fantasy stage" with a "realistic gameplay" rather than the opposite: you're playing the fourth stage out of 21, it's not the Paris-Roubaix race!
Environment needs further improvements (i.e there are still "flying" cars and cows, some houses are placed in a "strange position"...).
Road-tracks are the same as the files posted by Nicolas Portal for PCM 2011, I got no info about the profile of the "cotes" and I've never seen that places. So, I didn't modify some "fantasy stage" because I needed more informations about the 1989 tdf stages: i.e., the 14th stage and the 20th - the "false" Col Saint jean and the "unreal" Col (!) du Chat.
I don't know how to import "gpx" files into the Stage editor and so I could only modify existing "zcts" files. It seemed to me I worked hard about this, but I noticed the final result is just a sort of "basic version" of the 1989 tour. Anyway, I hope you'll appreciate this attemp.

Thank you for the messages.

I agree with most of your points about gameplay and such. That not always climb should be followed to the letter compared to the real one if the real one doesn't give such a good gameplay; about the normal roads even in the cobble roads, intermediate sprints positioned at the end of straight road sections.. haven't taken a closer look at the stages but by these remarks I already like them Wink Nice job! Great marlak for the 1989 stages...Wink

marlak
Thank you, lluuiiggii and roby75!
Now I'm remapping most cities - I wasn't satisfied with it. I'll try to mantain the"original" PCM2011 city-maps as much as possible.
I hope a new "1.1-version" will be ready next week.
Above all, I need suggestion about the 13th stage: I tried to reduce the amount of water but nothing seemed to happen, so I posted the not-modified file and I suggested how to play with it (modifying the configuration file), but it's uncomfortable...

The 2.0 version of the "1989_tdf_revisited" is now on-line.
Links for downloading, list of improvements and instructions are in the first post.
I've a request regarding the last stage: for further improvements, I need a pack of Isolated Buildings containing the Royal Palace in Versailles and the Louvre Museum. I've been searching for them in the IB-packs by Adiouk, Camacho, Stylus, but I found nothing. Please let me know if somebody shared these files - for PCM 2012 or 2011 - and where I can download them. Thank you!
